And im tony perkins. Get ready for the return of winter. Just a few hours ago it was 74 degrees outside. But a dramatic drop is on the way. Thats right. A freeze warning is already in effect. Sue palka starts us off tonight with everything you need to know. Hey there, shawn, tony. If you stepped outside right now you would say what freeze warning. Were talking 20s and 30s by the time the sun comes up tomorrow morning. Similar to what happened over the weekend and a freeze warning is in effect all the areas in blue. The better chance of seeing a freeze the farther north you go. And 32 degrees. But a lot of us are not just going to be talking about the freeze. Were also going to be noticing the wind chill in the morning. Lets get a look at temperatures right now. We can see that many places are still in the 50s. We know whats coming when we look up toward pennsylvania. 29 in pittsburgh, up toward binghamton 21. Boston with several inches of snow on the ground, 26 degrees. Speaking of that wind, check out these 8 00 a. M. Wind chill temperatures. Teens all over the region. By the time we get to noon its upper 20s to low 30s and by 50 00 its still in 30s. If youve got plants outside, you want to cover them up or bring anything you can inside. Its not just tonight thats going to be cold. It looks like tomorrow will be as well. We are ready to bundle up. Now to a fox 5 exclusive. Scenes like this on the streets of dc will likely pick up as the weather begins to heat up. A gang of illegal bikers were spotted this weekend in the shaw neighborhood. Fox 5s Marina Marraco talked to a Restaurant Owner who is fed up with all of this. Shes live tonight in shaw with the latest. Yeah, and shawn dozens of these bikers on any given day will hit the streets of dc. Last year dc police saying they only made 77 arrests in connection with these types of rides. As the weather heats up you can expect to see more out on the street. Reporter its cell phone video shot by a diner having dinner in shaw. It shows nearly 50 bikes, including atvs cruising down the streets of dc sunday evening. This Restaurant Owner is fed up. He says not o the illegal bikes a nuisance, hes worried someones bound to get hurt. Both the time when i can hear it, dirt bike, four wheeler go outside and sort of watch over the patio a little bit if somebody wants to walk out, i can sort of stop it. And although he tries to protect his customers, he wonders why police wont do more. In the 55 seconds of video, 36 bikes drive past a parked mpd cruiser. To be clear an officer could not see if a witness was inside the police car. Bikers who seem to be recording their antics, popped wheelies, chief lanier has been clear, there is a nochase policy in the district. Several members of the group are forced to stop and a tire. Red light, green light, doesnt matter. Somebody blocks the intersection just role right through, wheelies, whatever. Just recently to try to curb this issue, dc police implemented a rewards program if you call with a name that will lead to the confiscation to one of these bikes youll be rewarded 250. They say just last year they made 15 of these rewards. Marina marraco, fox 5 local news. I can certainly understand the frustration there. Thank you. A vigil was held tonight for the woman who was shot to death in her home over the weekend. Friends and family gathered to remember christina fisher. Police say her ex boyfriend killed her after they got into an argument saturday. Friends say fisher did her best to provide for her three children. You keep asking why. You never really understand why. She was a beautiful person inside and out. A gofundme page has been set up to help fishers family pay for her funeral. Tonight a man is under arrest in Montgomery County accused of starting several small fires around an apartment building. Investigators responded to a report of several trash fires. Investigators say there have been similar fires and in recent months as well as fires like this in Silver Spring sbl we have new details tonight about that deadly amtrak train crash just outside of philadelphia. The train crashed into a backhoe that was sitting on the track, killing the backhoe operator and a track supervisor. The ntsb says the train was going 106 les per hour 110mile per hour zone and the engineer applied the brakes five seconds before impact. No one aboard the train was killed. More than 30 passengers were injured. Investigators are trying to determine who was authorized to be on the track at the time of the accident. Five people are dead after a Helicopter Crash in tennessee. A fire started after the helicopter slammed into the ground spreading flames into a protected woodland. Faa investigators have been brought in. So far as the cause of the crash has not been determined. The future of rfk stadium was the subject of a big meeting at the Convention Center tonight. The group put several options on the table on what to do with this prime piece of real estate. Sarah simmons joins us more on the plans unveiled tonight. This is one of the proposals. A vastly different look from the current rfk stadium. This is where a be. This is an open green area and the armory which would still be there. This is not going to be doing anything to the armory. The parking lots would all be gone. Things would look very, very different. So theyre looking beyond just a new stadium. Its 190 acres in dc, right along the anacostia river. Developers are envisioning a space that can serve many purposes. Events dc hosted the meeting. Hundreds of people turned out to see what ideas people are putting forward and it is not your traditional stadium. Some proposals are for an nfl stadium or an arena perhaps an amphitheater, also shopping and dining options. Events dc says it is their goal to make sure the project speaks to a greater International Audience and the local dc community. Were excited to ge something done in the next two to five years around sports and family entertainment, a cultural use, greenspace, Community Soccer field, and a market. So people east of the river could actually come and shop for fres produce, link with pedestrian bridges from east of the river into this site. So its a place for all of washington, d. C. Now the chairman says theyve met with the Community Three times for input and theyll circle back around to the community to talk about the presentations and the financial challenges. Its a huge project so the money will have to come from somewhere. Thats something that still needs to be worked out. But as promised, as councilmembers were saying last week, there was no announcement of the redskins coming back to dc. Shawn and tony. Its interesting. A final farewell to a Virginia State trooper killed in the line of duty while participating in a Training Exercise last week. The gunman was also killed in the altercation. Friends, family and fellow officers attended a viewing in hampton, virginia today. His funeral will be held tomorrow followed by a private burial. The irs building in downtown dc will be closed tomorrow after a fire in the basement this afternoon. A spokesperson says the building remains without full electricity tonight and the air handling system is inoperable. A transformer fire broke out around 3 30 is afternoon. Employees were evacuated, several roads were blocked off, no injuries were reported. An anonymous individual is offering 1,000 for information. Amy explained that even though we saw kayleigh smile today, it has been a difficult first week and she had a message for the person that did this to her daughter. Its been torture, its been held. Shes four and she doesnt understand and shes traumatized by what happened. I just wish he had helped me. It would have saved her minutes of excruciating pain. I just wish he would have helped. And thats what they say if you receive one of these directly. A detroit woman who claimed she is the reallife cookie lion is suing the producers of empire for hundreds of millions of dollars. She says they stole the idea from cookie from her memoir called the hidden hand. Well some windy conditions out there later on . Its not going to be as windy as saturday night. That was scary, viit . It sure was. Were going to see gusts of 25 to 30 which will feel like a breeze. But dramatically colder but at least with the cold were not getting snow. You would be shocked to know how many places got significant snow today. Caitlin is standing by to show us some of the great pictures as well as some of the snow totals. I cant believe were talking snow april 4th. I know its unbelievable. Weve had some cold weather ours but nothing compared to our neighbors to our north. Video behind me out of buffalo, they are no strangers to april snow, but even they got several inches that piled up through monday morning. There were some pileups, up in new york state. More video, this is of massachusetts, which i believe is just west of the boston area. Kept seeing so many photos out of boston. It was a Winter Wonder land there. And even though they saw several rounds of snow that began yesterday and lasted through today, it was still tough to get everything to stick. They did manage to get just over 3 inches at logan international, thats their major reporting site for weather there and even some of the suburban spots, maybe where this video is shot, got up to 9 inches of snow. As we go to our graphics, well show you what they are experiencing right now. Most of the storm has winded down for new england. Youre still seeing lake effect snow showers. April snowstorm over past couple of days. Look at these snow totals so impressive considering we didnt see much in march and here we are in april 6th12 inches from buffalo all the way into western massachusetts just west of boston. No snow here but we are gearing up for a cold night. For more lets go back to sue palka in studio a. Can i just say i do not miss april snow. Growing up in pennsylvania we even had snow in may. Weve got to focus locally because were going to be seeing some pretty cold temperatures of our own later tonight and its hard to believe because 74 today, not feeling all that cold just yet. The breeze isnt terribly strong either. But a freeze warning is in effect for us overnight and especially some of our communities to the north. Its not in effect for everybody. Its the lighter blue area thats in the freeze warning and this watch is actually for tomorrow night. Were talking about two nights in which we cld especially in the freeze warning areas, temperatures between 28 and 32. But then we also have to deal with the marng wind chill that could be in the teens and 20s. We will be drier but chillier obviously the next couple of days. Before we get to the chilly stuff and between the rain we had wonderful rainbows this afternoon and evening. This is a great picture that was sent to us some of the pictures i saw on twitter i was so worried they were al terd that i couldnt even show them. Temperaturewise here in the district its not that bad right now, 54 degrees. Notice this wind, thats not a gust thats a sustained wind of 24 Miles Per Hour. Over the next several hours i want you to see how the temperatures go down. By 11 00 could we really be as cold as 4 it does say 34 degrees by 5 00 in the morning which can correspondence well. New york city 33, boston with that snow, 26 degrees. Were still at 54. Knocksville still 68 degrees. It is a little bit of the shock to the system tomorrow morning to find some upper 20s and low 30s. Chilly at the bus stop as well and that wind will make it feel worse. I want to emphasize not like it was saturday night but our departing area of low pressure that brought the rain and the snow and High Pressure building in does create quite a wind field were thinking gusts of 25 to 30 Miles Per Hour during the day tomorrow which translates to wind chills between 15 and 25 during the day. By the time we get to 1 00, theyre beginning to little bit and much better by later tomorrow evening. While we will have a cold, breezy tuesday, we dont think the wind will be significant as wednesday. Not warm tomorrow, upper 40s, feeling colder. Low 50s about the best we can do. And again reminder another freeze watch in effect for tomorrow night and if that gets changed to a warning you know its going to get cold. Last stop here, milder on thursday. Were glad about that because the nats home opener is thursday. But we are watching some rain ahead of another significant frontal boundary. Were hoping the rain will be mostly done by the time the game starts. No guarantees there. Here is a look at that game day forecast for the nats.
