I dont know about you, the state of our political debate right now in this country, you cant find 82 of the people to agree the sky is blue. The fact that now President Trump comes out in this first speech is labeled to deliver that speech on point on message. Not give one of these deviations that we have seen from time to time where he goes off on these tangents to that are not message. That are not focused. And that are not the target they were trying to get across. A lot of what we have seen was very steve bannon oriented. In your face. Aggressive. Taking on critics. Last night, jim and shawn, that was a lot more reince priebus, and if that is the voice of the president brings up here to capitol hill or enters into these more difficult issues of Affordable Care negotiation, tax code negoat a lot of what we heard both democrats and republicans is that they would like to see a lot more of that President Trump than the President Trump they have seen in the last five weeks. Were seeing that a lot of people getting tweets in and sounds like one of the common things were seeing, fitz people saying, yes, the president had that different tone but the can we go is how long do you sustain that . We heard audible because it touches on this very hot wire issue right now of how this administration is going to deal with immigration policy. So when they are on this theme of aspirationnal moving the country forward, protecting us from enemies and strength inc the existing laws on the books, yes, theres going to be a lot of agreement here. But when the conversation starts to pivot into how theyre to going to do it. Thats when you start to see the rub and the bipartisan starts to break down. Make no mistake, this white house had a very good night last night. How do we know that . Look at the president s twitter feed today. It was silent. Dont you think that little bit, thats by design . In a lot of ways, this speech went over so well, it did overshadow the fact that democrats did not have a good night in response last night. They came out of there expecting to blast the president. What they thought was going to be a very aggressive combative tone. That wasnt there, they had to scramble on to a new message. They didnt like the details. Then the official response the democratic response put former Kentucky Governor in that diner. If that was a message democrats were trying to reach out to a voter base that they had lost in november, im quite sure at this point if that was the way to go. If that was the new face of the democrats we saw in response they might want to go back to the drawing board and think about that again. We will be watching. Earlier we talked with local lawmakers for their reaction. What im learning now with this president is you never know which personality is going to show up. Obviously, a little bit. Weve got to start watching actions. One of the things the president said yesterday which i agree with, which is the problems or the issues the country faces are solvable but you wont be able to fix them or solve those problems unless you accurately describe the problem.
