We have an update on that massive fire that broke out in an Apartment Building under construction in college park. Fire crews were back on the scene this afternoon watching for any potential flareups. Meantime the cause of the fire is still a mystery but investigators say it appears to be accidental. So, a lot of us will stay dry and those of us that do get a little bit of rain as this comes on across, it does not look like its lot, but with that in mind later this evening and into the overnight, there is going to at least be a chance for some showers. Were following a developing story out of the Loudoun County tonight. Students at two schools reportedly took xanax last week and tonight the Sheriffs Officers is holding a meeting at one of those schools and parents are invited. Parents are fired up about this, alex. Reporter hey, guys, well, the Loudoun County Sheriffs Office tells me this was a previously scheduled quarterly meeting but in light of what happened at two different Loudoun County schools, they have decided to move the meeting here to River Bend Middle School. Its tonight at 7 00 and it is opened to parents. The reason they moved it is because the sheriffs says they do anticipate a lot of people to show up with questions or concerns and they want to talk to people about what happened reportedly on friday. Seven students here at River Bend Middle School shared a drink in contained xanax and after panicking, they went to the school nurse. All of the students are okay and they were sent home with parents but the concerning thing is that on that very same day, two students at potomac falls high school, which is just down the street from here, were also found to be in possession of that same drug. So, now, theres an Ongoing Investigation into whether the two incidents are linked. Now, at tonights meeting the Sheriffs Office says they wont have any updates to that investigation however theyll provide educational material and information on drug use and the Drug Prevention for parents to talk to their teenagers. Frederick county officials unveiled a billboard today on route 85 south of downtown frederick right near the county Detention Center and Work Release Program office. The sign calls attention to the number of people overdosing in the community and dying of overdoses. So far this year 96 overdoses, 15 deadly ones in Frederick County, seven deaths in just the past three and a half weeks. Were trying to raise awareness and educate the public about how significant the heroin and Opioid Epidemic is in our community. You notice the sign and look at the numbers, we have on average one person overdosing every day and one fatality about every 10 days. And thats a growing statistic. As always no matter where you live, there are government and Community Services for people dealing with heroin or opioid addictions. Coming up a lot of anger at one Elementary School over the principals classroom orders. If thats how she feels in a shes not fit to represent a predominantly africanamerican school. The email she sent to staff requesting that all white students be put in the same classrooms. He lost part of his leg in a motorcycle accident in 1995. If i was going to die i was going to die fighting. I found my path through jujitsu. Coming out when i lost my leg, this is 21 years ago, they didnt have paralympics then, they didnt have amputees on commercials or television. I just kind of had to find my own way. I went back into martial arts as a way of recovery. When i first started training, i wasnt allowed to train in most gyms they turned me away because there had never been a amputee before that that neighborhood martial arts. At one point i want to start competing. We had to drive four and a half hours sneak in a tournament. I would wear long pants my leg was padded up and after i won my first fight i knocked the guy out in the second round i went to the center of the ring raised my leg above my head and the entire stadium went quiet. Years go by they offered me to fight. Nobody knew if an amputee could do at this time. Its a combat sport so you cant think about it. Its not lynn nar motion. You have to be acting in a flow and to me that shows true ability. I retired from mixed martial arts after holding 170pound title. About half year ago i heard about this world jujitsu tournament. The rules of the tournament was that he couldnt use his prosthetic. He had to learn to not have that him to post on anymore. He had to fight able bie prosthetic. The first match he was a little rough, the second a little better and then he ended up submitting all of his opponents and winning. There are advantages you cant ankle me. I dont have an ankle on that side. Im not able to sweep from that side. People are truly stunned. That cant believe that they just got beat by a one legged dude. Jujitsu is a lifetime. It teaches you thousand solve problems under duress sole the things that we learn here are applicable to any area of our lives. Without this, i dont know where i would have ended up. Just 23 days into the Trump Administration flynn was fired from his position as the National Security adviser. Reporter two very different stories about some documents that many people leave are important to uncovering facts in this story. Well, congressman Elijah Cummings announced this investigation today into work that Michael Flynn did for the russian government noun this alleged maybe effort or nondisclosure of payments that he received from the russian government on clearance documentation for the white house. Now, at todays press conference, Elijah Cummings released these documents he says he got from the department of defense that are now unclassified. He says that attempting to get these documents from the white house he accused them of being extremely difficult making it impossible to get this documentation. Take a listen. Earlier this week the white house refused, absolutely refused to produce even a single document, not a single document in response to the bipartisan document requests that i sent with our republican chairman. Not one syllable. I watched sean spicer make all kinds of excuses about how hard it would be to comply with our request. Come on, man. Reporter well, the congressman went ton say that he believes that the white house is actually covering up for Michael Flynn but if the wh disagrees. In todays briefing the press secretary addressed the congressmans comments from earlier today and gave a very different account of what happened. I was frankly taken back by his comments today because theyre frankly not true. With all due respect, he got the documents that he requested. Our job they sent a form letter to multiple agencies asking for a copy of this. What we did was properly refer him to the issuing agency and department and said this is where you got it. And he got it. Reporter so, there are really two questions here that that people are looking at. One, whether the white house is making it difficult to obtain documents needed for these investigations and then a separate question here, did Michael Flynn purposely mislead and not provide information necessary on the those security clearance forms. Theres new concern tonight about the recent removals of caregivers from the vas caregiver program. More than 35,000 family caregivers have participated in the Program Since 2011. The va says more than 13,000 had been removed over the last six years. However theres a group called veteran warriors thats disputing that. Their survey shows more than 12,000 vets lost their caregivers in less than two years. As far as im concerned its unacceptable. We should always err on the side of the veteran. They are a true american heros. The va is now suspending program removals while they investigate the complaints. Meantime the House Va Committee is planning a round table with vets to talk about their concerns. New york city mayor bill deblasio brass yo stepping up to help Illegal Immigrants fight deportation. The mayor says he is setting aside more than 16 million in his 2018 budget to pay for undocumented immigrants the money would also help cover Legal Counsel for people in detention unaccompanied minors and people seeking asylum. The move by mayor deblasio follows Andrew Cuomos promise to earmark 10 million in taxpayer funds for the same purpose. Were not talking about a big deal with these showers coming across or whether theres a thunderstorm here or there it wouldnt surprise me either. I do that want to zoom down and show the radar another way because way back out to the west were beginning to see a little bit of it show up but all dry right now for i81 and then inside of i81 up and down i95 pthe commute is not going to be its not going to have any problems with this chance of showers because it looks like its going to end up being just too late to be a big deal. Its 79 in town right now. Baltimore is 80. Westminster and frederick up there in northern sections of Carroll County and Frederick County low to mid 80s there. Dulles sitting around 82 degrees or so, culpeper 81 and fredericksburg has made it up to 83 degrees. Heres the evening forecast. 78 degrees or so, so pretty close to where we are right now, even at 7 oclock, some clouds coming across. By 9 oclock, i put in a shower. Well have a few showers out there. Again, maybe a rumble of thunder here or but it looks like thats going to be widely scattered if it even happens. By 11 oclock, temperatures are down in the lower 70s, again mostly cloudy, a chance of a few showers coming across and i have to at least leave a chance of a shower in the forecast overnight tonight. But futurecast is not all that bullish at all over showers overnight. Again, some this evening. By tomorrow morning, o 7 00 a. M. , we should be dry with all of the rain such that it is off to the east of us, okay, so it looks like the morning commute should be fairly dry. Question is, where is there going to be some patchy fog . I do believe well have some tomorrow morning and that eventually lifts and creates some clouds. So we wont start off completely sunny. Well have some clouds, well have some fog and then as we progress through the morning hours, more and more sunshine and then by tomorrow afternoon it really does look nice. Well have good amount of sunshine and temperatures are going to be local to mid 80s across the area. Heres the deal for the weekend. We say weekend questions. Really saturday right now is going to happen. We think mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures upper 80s to low 90s and the the low 90s depends on how much in the way of sunshine we get or where or when a few of the showers come across. Theres a chance of a shower or a thunderstorm on saturday, theres no doubt about that but it doesnt look like its going to be an all day washout. So really hot on saturday. Heres the deal. You see this front to the north of us. Sunday were just not real sure how far south this front is going to push, okay. Right now were putting it right across the area, which should keep us in d. C. And the dmv in the 70s, probably the upper 70s, okay. Everybody to the south of the front will be in the 80s and the 90s. Farther north into the colder air you will mainly be upper 60s, low 70s. But if the front gets a little stronger pushed to the north and goes a little farther to the south, that puts most of us into the cooler air. So, while were expecting that temperatures for sunday will be in the upper 70s, could go a little bit different. It could be a little warmer but it could be cooler as well. So right now well go 78 degrees sunday. Its pretty much where we were yesterday so we havent changed. Sun and clouds a few showers possible. Upper 80s to low 90s around here for saturday so thats going to be a real hot day. Tomorrow clouds and fog, 69. Were already 80 degrees by lunchtime. 5 oclock were 84 degrees for a high. This happened this really happened quickly. I was shocked when i got the alert about this today. That guy dragged off his seat and off avenue plane has reached a settlement with United Airlines after a pr nightmare for the company. Dr. David daos lawyers just said theyve reached an amicable settlement for the injuries he received as a result of the april 9th incident which included two lost teeth a broken nose and a significant amount of hair loss. The airline making big changes to improve customer service. They include no longer using Law Enforcement unless theres a safety or security issue, boarded passengers will not be asked to give up their seats involuntarily unless theres a safety concern, stepping up compensation for voluntarily giving up your seat to almost 10,000 depending on the situation, flight attendants and gate agents allowed to hand out miles or other forms of compensations to passengers and if a airline permanently loses your bag you get 1,500. Some are already in place. Others will be rolled out soon. Southwest airlines making plans to stop overbooking flights. Last year southwest bumped 15,000 passengers thats more than any other u. S. Airline actually. Overbooking flights has recently come under scrutiny since that passenger we are talking about was pulled off that flight of united. Southwest says the airline has been thinking about eliminating overbooking for awhile since there have been fewer no shows. They tighten up the policies on no shows on southwest. Now they really charge down. You have to forfeit most if not all of your airfare. At the same time then the Airlines Need to give a little. Sort of like when you have that reservation you still expect there took seat for you. Oh, yeah and not get pulled off the flight. Rocking the red.
