Its interesting, you know, we talk about dress for access. We had an intern who you dont dress for the j you you dress for the job you want. Which people said before. He kind of lived that. But 30 of h. R. Pple saidhey decided not to hire someone because of the way that person was dressed. Really . So thats high theyve got to be dressed really poorly. In terms of inappropriately. Not like, you know, not nice clothing, but inappropriately for a job. Thats what i was thinking. It is more a sense of being inappropriate than the clothes are not nice enough quality. The safest thing you can do is wear this color in particular. Any guesses . I know in interviews, they say red is the color of power. I think thats not the safest color. On blue. Absolutely, ding, ding, ding. Blue, study after study shows it lowers blood pressure, prince your heart rate down, makes you likable. And the key color i navy. Its even better than another shade of blue. I would never wear navy to a Job Interview because i feel it is too bland. And conservative. Red is power color, but is too out there. I felt likeith w t election people are feeling bad abo politics, sick of the ads and negative attacks. There was this great thing, why this is a wonderful place. Number one. That didnt make the list. How about videos on youtube. You put on a loop and watch over and over again. Theres studies that say if you watch cat videos, you truly rais yr someing, likecain a cometh, like w talked about yesterday. Cat videos have the same effect. The number one on the list . Was libraries still exis i love that. I love going to the library. And it said i hope that made everyones day me wonderful. What . Cat videos . Libraries . Eres th order in the the world is your fingertips. That whole like forgiveness plan of the late feesnd late books. People needed that. It have time to read anymore. The dewey decimal system. Once you have it down, you it. Like riding a bike. They say youre valued for not what you wear or look, but how many words you have collected it talks about the you can get movies at the library, you can get all right. Was that the only thing on the list . No. But we ran out of time. Well share more tomorrow. That was number one, though. Okay. And i love it. Cant wait for the rest. All right. Before we show you the coolest new invention, were going to look at todays arts cameras plus picture of the day. It was my favorite kid, all right . Her 6yearold daughter madison wanted to be annie for halloween this year. So, she had to get her two youngest kids in on the fun, too. Thats right. 3yearold taylor has a funky perso personality, and mason, 4, was all about wearing a suit daddy warbucks. That is adorable. Day. Email it, send us the picture to pictures at the morning blend. Com. Do not forget to include a little story about the photo, too. We love that. First up, many Health Experts agree you shouldnt deny your favorite foods, just everything in moderation. Our next guest is inventor of a new kitchen gadget that helps you manage portion control. Bake portions and endless options. I was referencing real simple for reasons why the world is a wonderful place. And we notice that youre in here. Yes. Here it is, right here. Tell us aboutit, how does it work . Well, this is a portion control baking system. And i invented this for several doing that. And i was throwing parties all the time. But, there were different numbers of kids coming, sometimes i had to cut nine brownies and the next day 12, and no one wanted to be without one, and nobody wanted the small one. So i was so frustrated. One day i got my pan out and i drew inch marks all around it, and i realized i couldnt cut a street line. You cant dra cut one either. So i got a dough cutter, it didnt go all the way across. And i thought, wow, with a straight edge, i can line up those inch marks and i can cut ne servings or 12, 18, whatever i needed. And i was also a weight watcher. Wh my recipe said theres 12 i could stick to my diet. You think how many times the recipe said 4 or 8 servings, you rarely control that on your own. Thats true. And this gives you that control. And the other thing, in cutting brownies, youre showing a quiche there, pancakes, theyre hard to cut. I feel like th not only does a great job of equal slices, but takes the hassle out of cutting. Brownies are sticky and hard to cut and make look good. And that is the difference between looking like an amateur and a professional. Making sure that every piece is and people used to think when i threw my parties that i had hired a caterer. I never told them different. Triangle shapes, and all of a sudden people think, wow, she spent a lot of money on that party. I think whats fascinating. Sometimes the best inventions are almost the simplest in theory. What does the industry think about it . Everybody loves it. And i probably thought why didnt i think about it . Weight watchers called this portion control perfection. Weve been on the show saying its great for dieters, and diabetics. I cant tell you how many people have compared it to an ice maker. You know how ice makers completely revolutionized your refrigerator. Now, what will happen with bake ware, if it was possible to buy one without portion control, why not buy it with portion control. Why wouldnt you. Look at different options. Talk about. Tiff said options. What sizes do they come in . 9inch cake pan, round and square. We have a pie pan, which is deep dish, and if youre planning on making a pumpkin pie or meringue, whats the one. So this one right here. Then, we have our cookie sheet, which is on the end, let me tell you, this is a perfect for cookies. You cut your cookies in i do. I dont have to do four or six pans of individual. Make one sheet and cut the number of dozen i ne. Im done in 15 minutes rather than 40. People dont have to adjust recipes, you can just make it and fill the pan. I know, people are like, okay, i need to get it. Im so glad you mentioned gifts, our bestseller is this pan here, and all come with the slicer tool that exactly. This one comes with a lid. Thats why it is our best seller. Pull up the slicer, again, too. It just pops in. So you will never get to your Party Without it. What is in there . For inst, ad 220 calories per slice, if you got it right. So i cut on every third ih markup and down, then, you can choose to cheat if you want. You can have big slices. Because of the inch marks, again, it makes it absolutely easy. That is wonderful. Thanks for coming here and sharing this. Sears online, at way fare. Com. It comes with a lifetime warranty. That awesome, i love it. Thank you for joining us today. That apple cake smells good. Fun to meet you, congratulations on your invention. We have a whole lot more coming up, youre going to meet a father who forgave his daughters killer. That was the subject of a date line story. Also ahead, some of the most incredible films featuring ex trial weather. Were going to tell you about the only place in milwaukee where you can catch this movie. A pasta dish that is absolutely to die for. . . And welcome back. We are cooking with thunder bay. Today, a twist on chicken marsala, i know im going to love. Executive director mike stigler is here to share his recipe with us. It is on the lunch and dinner go there and order it. What did you think of the partners the perfect slice . I thought those were cool. I hope she makes them in the restaurant size. Geometry is not my thing. And frequently we got big pans, and im going left and right. Its a great idea. Your next project, restaurant size. Yep, thumbs up. Done, and done. What you dng today . A twist o a classic. Everybody loves chick marsala. Rmally y a whole chicken breast and smothered in the sauce. We do it in a ravioli. All right, so start off in our saute pan, a little bit of olive oil. And start in with a roasted mushroom medley. These are shiitake, portabella, and button. You guys always back away. The whole thing is going to light up. Were going to add marsala wine, give it just a little splash like that. Let thatk up. You backp a littl too, you know. Get this sauteing nice together. And let the mushrooms absorb the marsala wine. Marsala has a little bit of a nutty smell to it. Well, thats me, as well. I cook a lot of marsalas, it permeates. To that, were going to go ahead and add rosemary cream. This is basically like a base you would use for an alfredo sauce, it has rosemary, as simmer along with the mushrooms. And tothat, were going to ad our ravioli. We start it off in the water, just to get it nice and warm. Cheese. Making the sauce in the pan. In the ravioli is the chicken, capers. A little bit of caper, artichoke. Kind of like a tuscan chicken. Add the peas. The reason we put these in last, one, you get the color pop, and, two, they heat up from being in there along with all that stuff. Were going to go ahead and slide this into our pan, into we got that in there like i know what im doing. Aitt b of shaved asiago, and that gets a piece of crusty bread along with it on the side. And that is the chicken msala ravioli. Lets talk about the bar, too. This is on your lunch and dinner menu. You can probably e bar, with the games going on, cubs in the world series. Whos that . Hmm, hmm, hmm. After the break, some people like a good scare on halloween, but, if the thought of making Russ Feingold im Russ Feingold and i approve this message. Vo keep them working. Thats senator ron johnsons plan for seniors. He supports privatizing Social Security and wants toaise the retirement age so seniors have to keep working until theyre seventy. He also has a plan for medicare. Turn it into a Voucher Program and add means testing so seniors pay more out of pocket or are left without coverage altogether. But wisconsin seniors know that in washington, ron johnson isnt working. Welcome back to the morning blend. Halloween is just around the bend. Maybe you like a good scare. My guess is you dont like to be frightened when it comes to your health insurance. Today, health, if you are on is in session, time for insurance 101. Tom qualley is the ceo of Sovereign Select. Funny you mention scare. We like to say we take the scare out of medicare. Nice rhyme, i like it. You do that, because i feel like its overwhelming, complicated. You sort through all of it and find the blanest p for a couple, for an individual. Because you have access to so many different nepeople to medicare, even if theyre medicare already, or their l situation is changing, and they need to find a new plan, or just save money, were going to educate them on that. Its constantly changing the plans are constantly changing, prices are fluctuating, and needs change for each individual person. Every time we sit down with someone, were going to educate them based on what the current needs are and custom fit them with a program that works for them. Nice. Open Enrollment Period now in full swing. And its now through december 7th, right . And this is important to people why . Were really in the heat of it now with open enrollment. And its important for people to really review their plan every single year, because it is their right. It is a law that every single year from october 15th to december 7th, people on medicare have the opportunity to shop around, look current benefits are for 2017, this year, and look at some other products out there and see, hey, is there something out there that might suit me better based on my health, my medications, my finances, et cetera, and were really here to do that for them. I was going to ask you, how does Sovereign Select help . Were a broker. We have access to every single Medicare Advantage plan, a large and part d plans. I wanted to touch base on one thing. For a lot of snowbirds. People that are living in florida, arizona, california, for three to six months out of the year, theyre always looking for a product that has coverage where they live parttime. And a lot of times with Medicare Advantage, its hard to find coverage outside of the state of wisconsin unless its on an emergency basis. We do have a new produ available for 2017 that actually allows people access to doctors nationwide, as long as they accept medicare, they can go see them, and its a Medicare Advantage plan. Some of the plans low as 0 per month. Wow, thats a huge benefit. Thats huge. One of the things that you do, too, along with education is a,b, c d, which is the ok at the Prescription Drug plan, just so every year, in fact, as a way to help save people money. Right. So what we do for our current customers, every year we automatically send out a letter and email saying, hey, now is the time to review your drug plan, send us an updated list of your medications, and well review it for you, and well review those for every single one of our customers and let them know, hey, is there something tha might be better for you, or lower cost, or saving money on medications. Insurance Companies Really do, theyll add are covered, or take some prescriptions off. And if a person doesnt be proactive, as our customers are very lucky that we are, they might find themselves in a pretty bad situation, we do open that up to the public, as well. If anybody out there needs a comparison of their Prescription Drug plan, we do that free right in our office. And theres no cost. I mean, this is one of those things people dont expect to see you sitting here talking. Right. Why did you say, hey, youve always been a big guy, your identity has been in your uhhuh. Why did you decide you wanted to lose weight . Kind of like this is kind of like, my father passed away at age 48 from congestive heart failure, and Different Things like that, and i just had a younger brother pass away from breast cancer. And people starting to go away right now. And i didnt want to be that person. You look at a lot of Different Things that you think you can omg. 32 pounds in one month. How does this burn fat program work . And why do you think gilbert has been so successful with this program and plan . Its really simple. Were unlike anything else thats out there. And all the other programs that are out there, they give you the same exact program, and were all different, we all look different, think different, talk different. How can you expect that were all going to react the same way to the same protocol . We cant do that . The no competition is because we create a customized unique program for each individual, completely personalized. We use our intelligence to figure out exactly what he needs. Well give him a food list, what his body needs to get balanced. And it takes care of the underlying problem. We want to fix the metabolism. When he first came in, his energy was not where it was over the years, he had a lot of abuse, and aches and pains. He said, im frustrated, im sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. And i want to do something. Look at him now, were so proud of what hes done. Hes changed his life. His family is lovin it. Life is not the same. Whats his meto metabolism. Can i tell them . Yes. We measure a whole bunch of Different Things, we tell you what your metabolic age is. His was that of a 77yearold man when he first came in. Now, 40. Is it true. I knew that the gravedigger nickname, people did it hurt your feelings . No, not when i was playing. Unless my homegrown fritz, means i got to get on the treadmill more. And being big, and playing in the nfl was actually a good thing. Part of your career, as part of your professional experience. Yeah, because 4 for 1 and third in two, you got to be big to stop that double team. Im trying to get my sexy on, and the great doctor is helping me out. I think the before and after pictures tell the story. When you look at these pictures. I mean, i didnt look bad before, but i look tremendously good. You can see it in your face a lot. You look at these, but then you see, skinny little waist, tiny legs. I wouldnt say skinny. Trim. How about cravings . I called the doctor because i was in amazement, i was a big soda drinker. My favorite place was churchs chicken. I would go get an 8piece. Now, everybody know me, that really know me, know i love to eat, and i can throw down. So when they see me theyre like, what, are you sick . Something wrong with yo me ways where i can do things that i can feel comfortable in doing them, and confidence in doing them. And when im eating these foods, instead of getting an 8piece of chicken, i cant go no further than a 3piece. I dont crave no soda. I love to drink water. Everybody knows me, water, you know what im saying. Its just a great feeling to know that the doctor aint got to be standing on my shoulder you have the tools. Good for you. One of the things we tease people with, your high school weight. This is the first time that youve weighed less than 300 pounds. Ive told the doctor over there, this is probably the less i weighed since birth. I was going to say, hopefully your mother had a csection. Thats got to feel good. People dont recognize you, in some oh, yeah, its funny, i had to run to ups yesterday to go drop some stuff off. And i ran into anthony, the maa champion, we sat up there talking, and people would walk in, and i would say i wonder if this people know, you got an maa World Champion and a super bowl champion. And they would say, hey, gilbert, no, its me, man. Just, i want to thank the doctor for showing me the way to do these things. Because, like i said, my father passed away at 38 48, and i want to be around for a while. Heres information, 855burn fat, 4142695683. Youre right in tosa. We want to see you on the yellow couch for yes, maam. Yes, maam. Thank you so much. Extreme weather situations from tornadoes to wildfires, well tell you about the only place in milwaukee where you can be immersed in this powerful experience. And jesse blodgetts murder. Welcome to the the morning blend, a local story that made national headlines. Monday, july 15th, 2013, 19yearold Jessie Blodgett was raped and murdered in her home by a friend. It was a boy she once dated in high school, who they had connected as friends through the years. While the details of the case most surprised at the fact that jessies father was able to forgive her killer. Dr. Buck blodgett joins us to talk about how he did that and why he started the love is greater than hate project. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you for having me on your show. I want to showcase the tattoo on your arm. I think its beautiful. This is a gorgeous depiction of your daughter. Can you explain what it is . Its her, one friend drew her, another friend drew a butterflhi since she passed. And another drew the calligraphy, i kind of have her three best friends on my arm, as well as her. Really neat. A lot of people are familiar with the story, because youre from hartford, it was a local girl, the subject of a dateline episode. It was in july of 2013, and jessie was home, right . Sleeping at the time of her murder. Yeah, it was a monday morning, about 9 00 a. M. , and joy and i were at work when a friend came in and executed a long planned attack. You call him a friend, because they knew each other through high school, they did plays together. That was one thing she loved. She was in fiddler on the roof. There was a cast party. Do you think she would have called him a friend. Absolutely. They were in the same group of people. They sat together first and second chair in orchestra for six years. Friends. How do you know that he was planning to kill her for a long time . Theres a lot of evidence in the case. And one is his computer, and his computer shows a long stream of thinking, and planning. Looking at serial killer stuff, researching that. Yes. And there had been another attack prior to jessies murder, in a park, someone close by. Three days before jessie, he park, also modelled after a different serial killer search. So, and you know, he was a seemingly normal kid, nice guy, very popular, very talented, almost a prodigy on violin and really smart, great student. And the thing i most want to say about this is hes not a monster. What was in him, i believe, is in all of us, and we have to come to terms with that if wer and find solutions to this promise. His family is a loving kind wonderful home where he grew up. Thats where people want to point to at first. What happened i his home . It was a good situation, good people who raised him. How do you find love for someone in a situation that should foster so much hate . Ive been answering this question for three years, and i it. I was an atheist a little over three years ago, and when this happened, the world changed for me, and i felt an overwhelming preciousness of life, and a presence of love. I dont know how else to explain it. I felt like it was gifted to me, descended on me, and forgiveness wasnt something i tried to do, or my wife tried to do, it was just there. Has she chosen to forgive, yo i always wonder when theres forgiveness, because i think it releases you from hate, and your wife, and i give you both a lot of credit, because a lot of people would want to kill the person who did this to their child. Have you communicated your forgiveness to him . Have you had any conversation was him . Only one chance. And that was at sentencing. And i told him i forgave him and i told him i loved him. And i meant that. And i mean it now. And i dont mean i loved him watch the packers, i meant it like a statement about what im bringing into this world in contrast to who he brought into this world and i would like to be an exampleo everybody, i think its all of our jobs and responsibilities, you dont have to look long into the world four see how broken it is. And how much conflict, and drama, and hatred, and i think we need to make an effort, and love each other better. He hasnt given you that love back. He didnte didnt admit to killing jessie, do you think that that will come . What do you feel on that topic . And does that matter to you . I wouldnt be truthful if i said it doesnt matter, but i dont want to give him any he has no power over me. Yet the doors always open, my heart is always open, if and when he is ever ready, ill be ready. Im a little mad that its timing, i guess. And he is behind bars without the possibility of parole. For people wondering about that. Lets move to your mission. Because you have this incredible forum of community leaders. 56 leaders that include state reps, mayors, police chiefs, and the d. A. , and non profits, teachers, schools, counselors, faith leaders, Mental Health leaders, if goes on and on and on. What is the purpose of this . Because you want to speak to violen specifically against women . Yeah, we want to do something about it. If the purpose is a new aligned approach that expands against the direct intervenors. The people up to their shoulders in the river, this endless stream of violence. Every time they pull a body out and turn around, theres another one coming down the river. Its everywhere. And these are our First Responders who show up in the middle of violence and stop it, people, and our legal judicial system, and social services who counsel and prosecute and defend our perpetrators. They need help, they need somebody upstream to find out how and where and all these girls are getting into the river in the first place, and root cause, we need solutions and break throughs. Were out of time. But to leave people with something they can do, what do you suggest that we all do to end this . Open your heart, your mind, your ll whatever you can do in your space and time to love and forgive somebody. I love that. I do, too. People can get your book. Yes, on amazon. Com. You have a wonderful project, love is greater than hate, people can go to your web site, too, its ligth. Org. Sorry for your loss. Thank you so much. Extreme weather can be scary and fascinating. Tornado, wildfires, you have a chance to get an upclose look at the dangerous side of Mother Nature from the comfort of a movie theatre. Sean casey directed storm chasers, tornado alley, and forces of nature. Latest project for National Geographic extreme weather. Good morning, sean. Good morning, tiffany. Tiffany i think everybody is afraid of extreme weather, and fascinated. Where did your fascination begin . It was the first time i went storm chasing. Im from los angeles, so we really dont have extreme weather. And so, for the first time, to be going underneath one of these super cell storms, being immersed in the rain and the hail, to tornadoes, i fell head over heels in love with it. That was 1999. Ive been kind of doing it every since. Tiffany i feel like you got to know a lot about weather to be safe in situations like that. Well, or you find people that know, you know, know the deal, and thats as a filmmaker, you cant be an expert in everything, you have to find your guide. And, you know, for us, it was hooking up with dr. Josh wormen and his radar trucks, and going this is a really cool experience for people, you get up close in person, its very immersive. Talk about the new film, the big screen, and what were going to see happening . Yeah, the imax theatre at the museum, youre talking about a very large powerful immersive experience. As a filmmaker, you want to get imagery that does justice to the subject matter. In this case, its glacers, tornadoes, you want to do justice, and get as close as possible to this to capture that power. When its shown at a theatre at the public museum, that that power, and that experience really shows through. Tiffany yeah, i mean, you really feel like capturing Climate Change and how its affecting our land is something we all need to see. Have you been a little too close for comfort . Yeah. Yeah. Every time we go out in the as we can, right . And usually there are moments when you want to turn tail and run. But usually those are the moments that are visually compelling you to stay to film. Youre kind of on a fence of flight or fight. And hopefully, you know, we stay, and stand our ground and get that imagery thats so amazing. Tiffany i tend to fall in that middle category of freeze in those situations. The deer in the headlights. Yeah, theres been times where youre watching a glacier cap right at you, and theres a moment youre frozen. Hopefully youve already pressed the record button. Tiffany you capture shes amazing things. 100 foot flames, ice falling, tornadoes that youre getting up into. What do you hope people take away from this . The magnitude of nature . Theres Climate Change behind it . What do you want people to experience and take away . Yeah, people have heard, you know, Climate Change, and the weather is changing, weve heard that. And what we wanted to show and whats so powerful about this format is the visual immersive experience of it. So, we want to give images to maybe a concept that were all hearing. Powerful visual context. I love it. Sean it, was a pleasure having you here. I think youre a force of nature. Thank you. Im blushed. Tiffany gotcha thank you, tiffany.
