Elsa. Reporter the board approved the goal 71, but only after Board Members formally addressed the fears parents feared over the last several weeks. They all acknowledged the fears over busing and the desire to put something that addresses that in the goals. Board member, rhonda lenen was the one member who voted against the goal saying they werent necessary and they are driving some of the fear. However, not all Board Members agree. We got to tell this community we do support the neighborhood schools that your child will be assigned a guaranteed seat. Until that happens, i dont believe the community, no matter what we say up here were talking about aspirational goals. Big, wide open, positive, this is what were reaching for. One of the things they do for me is they they recognize that Student Assignment is a matter of justice for all. As for the goals, the board intends to provide choices and equal access. Maximize resources, reduce schools with high concentrations of poverty. Provide options for students in under performing schools and expand Successful Schools and programs. Now this assignment process is far from over. The next step, creating principles. They will be able to be more specific. They can talk about things like magnet options and neighborhood schools. Channel 9 uncovered a plan that could eliminate city, trash removal for several charlotte homeowners. Alexa investigated this proposal and the impact it could have on taxpayers. Alexa. Scott, erica, officials are supposed to meet and discuss this topic as early as friday and residents i spoke with here told me they hope the final decision doesnt end up costing them more money.
