One student was killed at the flagstaff campus. Three others were shot and they are in the hospital. We do not know how they are doing. What weve learned is that the shooting happened in a parking outside of a greek life dorm at 1 20 their time. Campus police say the shooter is a student. Two separate student groups got into a confrontation. The confrontation turned physical. One of our students, steven jones, 18, produced a handgun and shot four of our other students. The student who died has not yet been named. Jones was taken into custody right after the shooting. Right now president obama is on a plane to roseburg, oregon. He left joint base andrews more than an hour ago. He will meet privately with the victims families of those killed in the umpqua shooting. President obama is seriously considering executive action that would put stricter background checks in place for gun buyers. Tracking light rain impacting the baltimore area. The driver was killed. Traffic was snarled for hours. The tractor trailer could be seen laying on its side on eastbound suitland parkway. But this was just the trucks resting place. It actually fell off an overpass on the outer loop of the beltway and landed on the lanes below. These nsnapshots were take bin first responders. Its unclear why he lost control. The outbound suitland parkway was closed for hours. We detoured around it, went a different way into the city. So, happens. We got rained out. Have to change your route . Yeah. Another accident in Prince Georges County snarled traffic this morning. Chopper 4 getting video of the backup after a truck overturned on the outer loop of the beltway near the branch avenue exit. There were several other cars involved. Crews were able to get them cleared up quickly. At one point all the lanes were blocked. No word on injuries. We know the name of a man accused of flying a drone near the Washington Monument. He lost control of it and it possibly crash landed on the ellipse. Salomon was ticketed and then the drone was confiscated. This is the ninth time someone was caught flying an illegal drone in a National Park in our area this year. A suspect in an officer involved shooting in northeast washington is on the run. Everything started overnight with a traffic stop. D. C. Police tell us the officer shot in the direction of the suspect, but its not clear if the suspect was hit or if anyone shot at the officer. This happened on bladensburg road on the border of d. C. And Prince Georges County. House republicans have been meeting trying to figure out who theyll run to support for speaker. Frontrunner Kevin Mccarthy dropped out yesterday. He said republicans need a new face and the republicans need to be united. Outgoing Speaker John Boehner plans to stay until the house votes for a new speaker. Ben carson facing a new controversy as he stops in d. C. Today. He told cnn that the holocaust would have been greatly diminished if german jews had been armed with guns. In july he pled guilty to using a gun during the course of his escape. He overpowered a Security Guard and took her firearm. He was also ordered to pay restitution of more than 32,000 for the 12 bank robberies. He was arrested on the robberies before the escape. Im melissa mollett. Hes been identified as Howard Solomon iii. He is an enthusiasenthusiast, d sports enthusiast. He was flying the ground on the mounds of the Washington Monument at 1 20 this morning. The secret service and u. S. Park police were alerted. They found him and he had lost control of the drone about the size of a bird. And i asked the park police how close it got to the white house . It crash landed just inside the ellipse grounds, just north of constitution avenue. Between 15th and 16th street. Thats a considerable distance from the white house. Was there ever a danger posed .
