It was on this stretch of route 1 last wednesday morning that aa latino immigrant walking home from work found himself surrounded by i. C. E. Agents. They showed him a picture of someone he didnt recognize. He said i dont know who that is. The next question they asked him is do you have any id. In one case agents came looking for a targeted criminal illegal immigrant but left with several other people instead. They didnt find him and so they arrested someone else. Thats whats new. Now immigration lawyers say President Trumps order means anyone can be arrested regardless of whether they committed a serious offense. Agents are asking for someone who isnt there. If theyre confronted on the street, maintain a right to silence. Now that attorney from the legal aid Justice Center advises undocumented immigrants to be on alert right now. But he says dont panic. He does urge them to go about their normal activities, going to work, sending the kids to school and taking part in community events. Marchers supporting immigrants took to the streets in wisconsin today. A rally in milwaukee was billed as a day without latinos, immigrants and refugees. Supporters skipped school and work to show the impact that immigrants have on the economy. That strike is also meant to send a message to the Milwaukee County sheriff. There are fears that program that empowers them to act as agents of i. C. E. And to deport people here illegally. Busy day cleaning up the damage caused by really strong winds that ripped through our area. This house in Silver Spring deemed unsafe now after a massive tree crashed into it. The woman who lives there says she heard a terrible noise as that tree slammed into her roof. She was not injured. In virginia strong winds knocked down trees and power lines, closing some roads. School was delayed for Fairfax County students because of Power Outages. More than 29,000 customers were without power in Northern Virginia. The adopted son of former penn state football coach Jerry Sandusky is now facing child sex abuse charges of his own. 41yearold Jeffrey Sandusky is accused sexual assaulting two young girls who are minors. Sandusky sent inappropriate texts to a victim and he is one of six children adopted by Jerry Sandusky and his wife. What weve learned through our reporting is that many residents have been complaining about the dangers of this intersection. Maryland Highway Administration is investigating. What id like people to take a look at is the speed of the cars that travel on connecticut avenue at the connecticut denfeld intersection, the drag racing thats been going on for quite a while now. Reporter hernandez was turning left onto denfeld avenue from connecticut avenue when he was broad sided by an oncoming car. Police are investigating the possibility the other driver may have been racing and that i hadha had theyre looking into whether speed was a factor. Elsewhere in our community, dozens of people stepped outside over the weekend and found their cars had been broken intoer arlington county. More than 30 of the breakins happened on just one block in east falls church. Reporter Police Believe the suspect went up and down the streets looking for cars that were left unlocked. The first incident happened here on north 38th street on wednesday night. Police say as many as 15 cars were broken into. Numerous vehicles were entered, rum mmaged through. Reporter three dates later, saturday night it happened again about a mile from the first location. This time on north 26th street. And this time 32 cars were hit. What we have is an individual or individuals going through the area rummaging through cars looking for anything of value. Reporter dave sanchez says the Community List serve alerted neighbors to some breakins but he had no idea there had been more than 30 thought was pretty safe. To hear that any of us could have our car broken into, luckily we keep ours locked but yeah its a shame that all those cars were opened. Reporter police are not sure if the two incidents are related but theyre asking for the publics help if they saw anything suspicious wednesday or saturday nights. A huge tree came down, crashing into an elderly womans home in chevy chase, maryland. She wasnt hurt but damage to the back of the house even worse than the front. Reporter and less than a mile away we were at home across the street and we just heard a very loud bang and ran outside and saw that the tree had fallen. Reporter a close call for a postal worker. Apparently he was walking toward the tree and was about 20 feet away from where it fell. He said if faster it probably would have hit him. He was pretty shaken up. Reporter Montgomery County fire and rescue said they did see a bit of a surge in calls today, about 50 calls from 7 00 to north of here, the problem isnt just wind, but also snow. Another powerful winter storm is slamming the new england region. This is video from earlier today in portland, maine. Plows there are having trouble keeping the roads clear. Y29koy y5yy a grandmother will stay behind bars on charges that she the 1yearold boy was hospitalized after overdosing on methadone. Calvert county deputies say the incident hand inside the womans home. Meagan fitzgerald has reaction to the story, all new at 6 00. We then responded to the suspects home where we conducted a search warrant. Reporter Calvert County deputies say they searched this home after Child Protective Services told them that a 1yearold boy had been poisoned by methadone. The prime suspect, 55yearold judith tetro, the boys grandmother. She said the child wouldnt stop crying. Investigators say she sent a text message to her daughter saying, quote, dont be mad at me and i did not drug him. But investigators believe she did. Preliminary investigation leads us to believe that the child ingested methadone while in her care. Ive never seen her treat the reporter donald nolan lives inside the home and says he was here when she was babysitting. He says he heard the child crying but believes his friend is innocent. I was sitting right there. She didnt give the baby no methadone. Reporter but the childs mother told investigators that her sons sip pi cup smelled funny. Its now being tested in a baltimore laboratory. Deputies say it could be an additional piece of evidence. The good news is that the child is expected to make a full recovery. Thats any time that can happen, thats a good day. Reporter investigators say this is still an active and ongoing investigation. They say its possible more charges could come. She is expected to be back in court on march 13th. Down in louisville, kentucky they received 52 overdose calls in a thats more than double the 25 calls received in the same time frame the week before. Nbc nightly news is working the story.
