At around 8 45 this morning while traveling north on 295, investigators say someone in a darkcolored car riddled the drivers side of this suv with bullets. One person died, another was rushed to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Police are still investigating and remained on scene for about 3 1 2 hours while they collected evidence. What we believe is that there was another car that was following this suv out in virginia, before they even entered the district. The anthrax was eradiated to kill any active spores but a civilian lab in maryland discovered last week that its sample was live. I66 right on down 17 down from marshall towards warrenton. If youre in this area, be ready for heavy downpours, same area that saw some of these showers yesterday too. More shower activity down toward stafford county, spotsylvania county. These will move right across i95 around the next half hour, 95 going to be a bit of a wet ride down towards that area. Then one little shower right now, this is just north of the wheaton area around white oak. Just west of east of aspen hill. Its moving very slowly. It will move right across 29. Maybe a little wet there, too. One more shower that just popped up along 301 in and around the bowie area. 11 00, couple of showers remain, maybe a rumble of thunder or two. Tomorrow hot and humid once again, cloud cover to start day. Then watch this. Scattered thunderstorms develop by noon tomorrow, and they continue right on through the afternoon. Were seeing some of those showers an thunderstorms outside right now chris. Were going to continue to see those throughout the afternoon. We werent expecting a lot of rain this afternoon and just a couple of stat scattered showers. Thats what weve got. Storm team4 radar picking up on some of those showers. Right now toward 66, around the marshall dwra just to the north of warren ton and another batch toward fredericksburg along the i95 corridor. Then just tei couple of scattered showers, one moving just to the south of croften right now. Hires the biggest one just moving down to the south, very close to warrenton. If youre around marshall driving down 16 or 17 rather, and if you know somebody who will be there, its going to be coming down, fairly heavy rain. Another shower toward manassas. Officers have arrested and booked fewer people than last year at this time, and an arrest dropped even lower after the death of freddie gray in april. Now, the six baltimore officers charged in grays death want their case moved out of the city. Their Defense Attorneys filed a new motion arguing they cant get a fair trial in baltimore. They say jurors wont be able to remain impartial in the wake of the protests that spread through the city last month. The School Bus Stops along state route 355 in Montgomery County the stop signs deployed, the lights flashing. But drivers in the other direction keep driving ny how and one nearly taibs that man out. Our news4 iteam investigation found just a long half mile of this busy state road in Montgomery County police ticketed more than 50 drivers for illegally passing stopped school buses in just the past year ffs unfortunately that drivers still arent paying attention. After seeing our report, the chairman of the monts gomry county Council Commission asked state highway officials to xregt whether skids are safe boarding buses at several stops along state highways in the county, citing our news story, Council Member craig rice asked for a formal awed ilt of Pedestrian Safety here. Thats one of the things we really want to take a look at. We want to focus on why these bus stops are in certain high traffic areas where we know theres a larger risk. His formal request to the state is actually limited just to the bus stops on this part of 3 355 near in germantown. Its an annual effort aimed at preventing crashes involving big trucks. This morning officers from several agencies across virginia conducted safety inspections at a park in chantilly. They pulled trucks from route 28 and checked them for problems with their brakes, steering or motor, issues that can make those trucks dangerous. Speaking of manassas, one pretty strong storm toward manassas, also one toward anne arundel county. Get to that in a second. The one toward warrenton, this is not hoff moving a lot, this is along 17 for the better part of the half hour, 45 minutes. Very heavy rain building down toward the warrenton area. Then as you move up toward the north and east up towards the manassas area, seeing a pretty good storm there, too. More shower activity down toward fredericksburg and then another little shower thats up into portions of anne arundel county, just to the west of the bay. That prompted the city to do an entire inspection of this building and sto look back at their records. News4 now has the report of those findings, which officials are calling unacceptable. Reporter its a picture thats gone viral, two girls full of hope hugging each ear. We actually just met that day. We just met and malia ran up to her and they were hugging and looking out the window. I simply asked her mom, can i take a picture of them . She said, sure, go ahead. And i took that picture and that was it. Reporter that picture was taken at Childrens Hospital in pittsburgh. It has been shared and commented on thousands of times. Taz jones is 5yearold malias mother. Theres always somebody there for you, always a friend. Children helping other children is the best support because they dont know. Reporter malia has zero blastoma cancer. Bh she was 2 years old, doctors discovered a tumor growing in hir abdomen. Shes had multiple rounds of chemotherapy and will start receiving specialty treatment in new york. Good job reporter but rather than focus on the hardship, her mother reflects on the friendships theyve made. Ive helped mothers get through their child just being diagnosed, and theyve helped me. C. s mayor and police chief are just speaking about a violent 24 hours in our city. One of the shooting victims was a freelance newspaper reporter sharnieces family says she was used as a human shield in a shooting in southeast last night. Lets hear what the chief just said. Its just a wonderful human being who was doing last night what she did every day. She was combined to love of her work with her love for her community and the betterment of the residents that lived east of the river in her family. Reporter sharniece milton worked as a reporter for a local Community Newspaper called the hill rag. As news4s derrick ward shows us, her mother heard from milton just minutes before she was killed. Reporter sharniece milton was gunned down at this intersection. She was at i bus stop at about 9 45. She was on her way home. At 9 28 she texted me and said, im on my way home. So i was waiting for her to text me and let me show if she needed me to pick her up where she was and we never got that text last night. Reporter family members tell us she was likely on the last leg of her trip home by bus. She was going to get the w4 which would take her all the way home. Police told them that the intended target of the shooting gra grabbed her and used her as a human shield. She is the one who died. She was just a busy young lady. People say she was a good gierl. Thats how people always describe her, as a good girl. Reporter she graduated from Syracuse University and got a advanced degree at ball street. Journalism was her passion as was her community. She managed to meld them both into her work. She could have worked at any News Media Organization she wanted to. She had the credentials, the expertise, the knowledge. But she sacrificed and she stayed in ward 8. Reporter milton wrote for Capital Community news. They put out publications such as the hill rag and east of the river. Sharniece was a regular contributor to the publications. The editor characterized her as the quintessential intrend reporter. Her family was proud of her achievements and proud of how she lived. Amid their grief, theyre trying to come to terms of how she died. Through no fault of her own
