Jarrod williams is charged with robbery with eulls of a firearm in commission of a felony. Hes one of two men accused of opening fire on a truck outside Capital One Bank in chantilly yesterday. They only got a few miles before Police Arrested them. Williams is being held without bond. A second suspect was shot several times and is still in the hospital. Painful memories were part of a hearing on capitol hill today focusing on the deadly smoke incident at Lenphant Plaza metro station. Officials say officers actually witnessed the second robbery and tried to stop it but the man pulled out a gun and began shooting. They shot back as he ran. He was later found dead of a gunshot wound to the head. Police tell us it looks like he shot himself. Its very unfortunate we lost somebody somebody lost their lives as a result of this. But its not its not like i said it doesnt happen every day, but it has happened in the past. Police tell us the gun was recovered from the scene. The name of the suspected robber has not been released. Today a Fairfax County judge decided the attempted murder trial of Jesse Matthew will begin june 8th. Matthews accused of raping and trying to kill a woman in the city of fairfax in 2005. Just this weekend Albemarle County grand jury indicted him on a firstdegree murder charge in the case of hannah graham. The uva student disappeared in september. Matthew was one of the last people seen on Surveillance Video with graham. Her body was discovered five weeks later. The fairfax trial is slated to last two weeks. The nationals tell us the magnetometers, those walkthrough metal detectors, theyre similar to those in local museums or federal Office Buildings and they will replace the handheld wands. Last season security measures included the bag checks and those handheld metal detectors. People who cant pass through these new detectors because of metal conditions will still get wanded. This change has been implemented in other stadiums across the country and we should tell you according to an mlb spokesperson theres been little inconvenience to the fans. I try not to go back there a lot simply because i thought i was asleep for a night, and here it was three to four weeks later. Reporter when michael freeman, pastor of spirit of Faith Christian center awoke in his hospital bed, he says he had no idea he almost died. And you kind of wake up and they tell you youre in a different month, youre in a different hospital. Reporter but what he thought was a common cold turned out to be an aggressive pneumonia that was attacking his lungs. Doctors at their local hospital said there was nothing more they could do for him, but his wife, delores, didnt give up. I was never frightened. I was never worried. I was never concerned. Reporter at the suggestion of a Family Member they reached out to Medstar Washington Hospital Center where they have a program called ecmo short for extra corporeal membrane oxygenation. Its a machine typically youed for patients whose hearts wont pump but some hospitals use it for patients like pastor freeman whose lungs arent working. Cardiac surgeon Ezekiel Molina runs the program. In a situation like this what the pump does is replaces the function of the lungs. Reporter ecmo works by withdrawing the patients blood, pumping jox generaloxygen into it then returning it to the body. In pastor freemans case it can give the lungs time to heal. Once we decide to institute Something Like this, we know the risk of that patient dying is around 50 . I didnt cry, didnt feel like crying didnt want to cry. I said i dont have time to cry. Im in a fight. Im in a fight for life. Reporter pastor freeman stayed on the ecmo machine for three weeks, and just when doctors were beginning to give up hiss lungs started to heal. He was going to live. Dr. Molina says one remarkable thing about this case even though the pastor was close to death, his family never doubted his survival. I personally truly believe that they must have an impact on him in the final outcome. He is where he is today because of the combination of care with my faith and with the doctors. Reporter this is pastor freeman the day he came back to his church surrounded by a cheering congregation overcome with emotion. Though his lungs are still healing, he says this experience has made him feel more alive than ever. Im Getting Better every day. Thats my confession. Any day above ground is a good day, and i feel great to be alive. Quite a welcome back for pastor freeman. Dr. Molina tells us that most hospitals in the region dont have an ecmo program. You drive around the neighborhoods, you see a lot of this take a look crews up on the rooftops of homes trying to clear the snow away to beat this next storm.
