And this is new video of the train that was involved in yesterdays incident near Lenfant Plaza. Its being moved off the tracks. It was towed to the green belt train yard where it will be part of an ntsb investigation. Well have more on metro coming up but the other big story were following tonight is the weather. Snow could create another messy travel morning for you tomorrow. Road crews in d. C. Virginia and maryland have already pretreated the major roads. Last week it took only about two inches to totally snarl the morning commute. It caused hundreds of accidents and canceled school in some districts. By 4 00 tomorrow morning, the Virginia Department of transportation will have 700 snow trucks on the road in Northern Virginia alone. Ddots going to have 200 trucks out by 2 00 this morning. And maryland did not give an exact number to us but is asking drivers to delay travel if you can. So doug walk us through this. Well i think the big thing here is were going to see a lot less snowfall than we did last week but its not really going to matter. It only takes a light coating on the surface of the road to create big problems. Thats why we have the Winter Weather advisory in effect for most of the area. Nothing on the radar. That storm system still down south, but its starting to come together. Not a ton of moisture with this storm. So again were not talking a lot of snow but the temperatures are well below freezing. Were talking about numbers down into the low to mid20s. Everything that falls will stick. That Winter Weather advisory from baltimore down i95 down to the west including eastern Loudoun County and prince georges and down towards charles county. From d. C. Down to the south and east. Tonight two people remain hospitalized because of the smoke that poured out of the metro tunnel near Lenfant Plaza mound. 61yearold carol glover died in that emergency. And tonight her friends are in shock, and one local lawmaker is calling part of the response inexcusable. We have Team Coverage again tonight. Were going to begin with shomari stone who is on l street where glover worked when she was here in d. C. Reporter good evening, glovers family and friends are heartbroken tonight. She would catch the metro from alexandria here to l street and 20th street behind me and then walk into that building. She was early, she would leave late she was dedicated, a hard worker her friends say. Its important to point out shell be missed. She never made it home yesterday. 61yearold carol glover was the mother of two adult sons a grandmother, a beloved employee at dkw communications a federal contractor. She was killed when thick black smoke filled a metro tunnel yesterday. Were all still in shock. I mean we just found out a couple hours ago. Carol was a great employee. Reporter delivered andrews was her supervisor. She was only with the company a year and a half and won the employee of the year award last month. To lose such a talent in such a tragic way, its very hard for the company right now. Reporter tonight Jonathan Rogers said he noticed a woman who was having trouble breathing. He and some passengers tried to help her. He thinks it was carol glover but hes not positive. This lady cant wait any longer. So we decided to just try to do cpr. A few of us were rotating compressions and mouthtomouth. And then like after 20 minutes of that this isnt helping. Reporter carol lived in a house in this quiet alexandria neighborhood. She earned a Computer Science degree from drexel university, and she graduated from Eastern High School in d. C. She took the metro to work for two decades. Neighbors remember her warm friendly smile. Would play out here with my son, and wed see her coming home and exchange pleasantries hello, how are you. Very sweet, very nice lead. Its horrible. Tragic. Reporter indeed. Everyone we talked to described carol glover as a nice lady. Her family is making funeral arrangements. Live in northwest d. C. Im shomari stone, news 4. From what exactly happened to the Emergency Response still a number of troubling questions unanswered tonight. Passengers on board that train that was stuck near Lenfant Plaza yesterday say it took 40 minutes to an hour for help to arrive. First responders were heard over radio scanners complaining that they couldnt communicate with one another. D. C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said there arent a lot of answers now, but shes committed to getting them. Well find out what happened get to the bottom of what happened and commit to fixing it. The residents of the District Of Columbia in this region deserve a safe and reliable Public Transit system. Also members of Congress Also demanding answers tonight. With the latest on the investigation and some news about the yellow line. Reporter thats right. Service on the yellow line is restored as of 8 15 tonight. Meanwhile, the investigation usually takes the ntsb about 30 days to come out with a preliminary report to explain what happened. Tonight, some lawmakers say that needs to happen much sooner for safety reasons. Federal investigators are working to find out why smoke still philled the Lenfant Plaza tunnel and a metro train upending the ride home monday. The ntsb is studying an unexplained electrical arc or discharge. Tonight service is fully restored. I was scared to death, but i made it okay. I felt terrible for the people that got hurt. I dont know what i would have done in that situation. Reporter d. C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes norton is calling for a briefing with the ntsb after what she says was an unacceptable Emergency Response. Passengers trapped in the smoky train report waiting nearly an hour for help or any explanation of what was happening. One woman died. What i want to know is why wasnt there better communication and what was their delay . Why was there a delay, an unconscionable delay in getting Emergency Responders on to the track to get the people out . Reporter the tripled and dark train was moved through Lenfant Plaza this evening en route to a rail yard. It will remain out of service during the investigation into what went wrong. It hasnt restored my confidence in the metro system. Im ready to ride now. Im hoping theyre ready. Thats how i get around the city. Is there a real culture around the metro, the way theyve assured us . If so why was there a failure . Tonight passengers on the red line reported seeing sparks underneath the train at the gallery place chinatown station. Metro Officials Say trains do occasionally spark sometimes when moving, and this was not unusual. No one injured, service was never disrupted. People who left items at Lenfant Plaza during yesterdays vehicle wags youll be able to get them back soon. The votes are in and tonight a virginia lawmaker who resigned in the midst of a teenaged sex scandal and then ran for his own seat won in a special election. Democrat Joe Morrissey ran as an independent to represent and he won with 42 of the vote. Morrissey claims he is innocent but he entered a plea acknowledging that there was enough evidence to convict him for having sex with a 17yearold woman he had hired as a receptionist in his law office. Morrissey officially resigned 23 hours ago. He said voters should get to decide whether he remained in office. Com eight years in prison for the man behind a road rage attack at Westfield Montgomery mall David Goldberg was sentenced for the november 23rd incident. Goldberg got into an argument with a couple over who had the right of way at a stop sign. And he reportedly tried to run them over then got out of his car and stabbed them. He was convicted of attempted manslaughter. Received a sentence of 20 years with all but eight years suspended. Investigators tell us that a young child set the fire that left a 12yearold girl and her 75yearold grandmother dead. It happened in spotsylvania down in virginia. The 12yearold died after running back into the house in an effort to save her grandma. Reporter charred brick, broken windows and a family devastated after this fire. A day after almost 60 firefighters battled smoke and flames, investigators were back on the scene tuesday trying to piece together what happened. The firefighters entered the home through a secondstory window using ladders. They conducted their primary searches and did locate two victims in the second floor window. Reporter carol hill and her 12yearold granddaughter rowana were found in an upstairs bathroom. Even though crews tried to revive them they were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Carols son, rowanas father was also seriously injured. Investigators say, sadly, this fire could have been prevented. A younger child who did live in the home with the aforementioned was playing with firestarting material in the living room area which they believe to have been the cause of the fire. Reporter investigators say that child was related to both rowana and carol hill. Her neighbors in the quiet fox chase subdivision, the burntout shell of a house is a startling wakeup call. Reporter 12yearold rowana hill went to nye river middle school. A School Spokesman says a crisis team was at the school today and will remain there as long as its needed. Federal agents continued their search for the remains of two sisters who disappeared from here in the Washington Area 40 years ago. The parents are searching for the lyon sisters on top of Taylor Mountain down in Bedford County virginia. The sheriff there tells us that new Scientific Evidence suggests that the girls remains might be buried there. The search was supposed to wrap up today but its been extended until thursday because the search areas with larger than they had expected. A controversy over a student dress code at a florida middle school. Jackets with hoods are banned. The nohoods rule makes sure students can be identified on surveillance cameras and in person.
