kwame brown has resigned in the face of criminal charges. now, prosecutors say brown falsified income documents, inflating his income by tens of thousands of dollars so he could refinance his home and buy a luxury boat. now he's expected to plead guilty in federal court tomorrow. i should mention that this is unrelated to another investigation into the 2008 finance investigation. now, councilwoman mary shay is the pro se temp. his resignation leaves a vacancy. a special election will be held within the next 114 days to fill the spot. kwame brown tried to brush past reporters yesterday. he stopped only briefly to say he had no comment, that he would have no comment today. we'll, of course, have to wait to see about that. it's just the latest in a series of scandals vournding the d.c. government. right now mayor vincent gray is under investigation for his 2010 mayoral campaign. two staffers from his campaign pled guilty in two weeks for plotting money to go after adrian fenty. harry thomas jr. was sentenced to three years in prison for stealing thousands of dollars in district money that was supposed to go to youth programs. those charges also kofts thomas his seat on the council. today transportation secretary ray lahood will make a major announcement to end distracted driving. he'll talk about a new ichbishive. he's also expected to announce special projects to keep drivers focused on the road. every year 3,000 people nation wide tdie from distracted texting. first lady michelle obama will speak. today's event at a vfw post in dale city is the first public campaign trip for mrs. obama without her husband, the president. she was with the president when he relaunched his campaign in richmond earlier this month. within the last hour, the president's
