congress and checking in for treatment. we'll get to those stories in just a moment. first, though, on 4, two d.c. police officers are in the hospital tonight. they were attacked in chinatown. it happened around 5:00 along 6th street. police say they received a few complaints about a homeless man blocking the sidewalk. when two officers went to check the man started throwing punches. police say the man also hit the officers in the head several times with a large pipe. >> it's probably about this long. about this long. and it's wrapped in tape. >> and it's a pipe? >> it's a pipe. >> metal? >> it looks metal and it's wrapped with tape. >> and he used that to strike them on the head multiple times? >> that and hand to hand, yes. >> reporter: the man was arrested. the officers were taken to the hospital. their names and conditions are not being released right now. police have arrested members of a polygamist sect in connection with the murder of a d.c. woman. she moved to north carolina several months ago. her family never saw her again. darcy spencer talked to the woman's family tonight and they say she was fooled by a man who claimed to be a man of god, right? >> reporter: that's certainly right. mckoy's mother tonight told me her daughter had no idea she was getting involved in a cult. she says the man, main suspect in this case, presented yourself, as you said, a man of god. she says he was the devil in disguise. >> i had no idea or dream that i would be burying one of my children. >> reporter: yvonne mckoy is the mother of 27-year-old antoinetta mckoy, whose remains were found buried in a plastic bag behind a home in durham, north carolina this week. >> it's a tragedy to me that someone would be so brutal and mean and cruel. in my heart i say they could have sent her home than to do what they did to her. >> reporter: seven people have been charged in connection with mckoy's murder, including peter moses, the alleged ringleader of a religious cult called the black hebrew israelites that practice polygamy. police say they're also responsible for the murder of a 5-year-old boy whose remains were found nearby. >> she wanted to get out of it. she tried to get away. these monsters chased her, beat her down, beat her unconscious, and then shot her twice in her head. >> reporter: mckoy met moses while they were attending dunbar high school in northwest d.c. her mom says she hadn't seen moses for ten years. then her daughter suddenly announced she was marrying him and moving to north carolina. that was in december. she hadn't seen or heard from her since. >> she felt that, you know, by him knowing the bible that he was a christian god-fearing type of man. actually, he was the devil in disguise, a monster. >> reporter: police say mckoy had been living with moses and several other women near where the remains were found. the bodies were discovered by a plumber called to the house because of what was believed to be a sewage backup. >> we see something buried in a plastic bag, and it has a horrible smell. we don't assume it -- we don't think it's an animal. it could possible yoi be another human. >> reporter: mckoy's relatives say she was a writer who loved poetry and would have done anything to help people. >> what would you like to see happen here? >> i would like to see the death penalty. >> reporter: mckoy's family is planning a memorial service at greater pent costal church in northwest d.c. on june 25th. that would have been her 28th birthday. craig, back to you. >> all right, darcy spencer in the studio for us tonight. darcy, thanks. we are following some breaking news in southwest washington tonight. d.c. fire and ems are searching for a woman who is missing in the water near the capitol yacht club. that's florida street and southwest. officials say the woman was on a sailboat when she went into the water to help someone else. we have a crew on the way to the scene right now, and we will of course pass along any new information just as soon as it becomes available. fighter jets scrambled to camp david today. a plane flew into restricted air space there. the plane got within several miles of the presidential retreat before it was intercepted by fighter jets. they escorted the small aircraft to hagerstown. secret service met it on the ground. president obama and the first family are at camp david for the weekend. it looks like the plane entered the airspace by mistake. anthony weiner wants to take a leave of absence from congress to get treatment. many top democrats want him to resign. in a statement the new york congressman's office said he was seeking professional treatment to "focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person." that announcement came just a short time after reporters caught up with him as he was picking up his laundry. >> i've made some serious mistakes here. i have -- i have to redeem myself. and i'm going to try to get back to work. but these were personal failings. so i'm trying not to get them get in the way of my professional work. >> reporter: meanwhile, more democratic leaders are calling for weiner to step down. among them minority leader nancy pelosi and maryland congressman chris van holland. last week congressman weiner admitted to sending inappropriate text messages to several women and lying about it. another top al qaeda operative is dead tonight. fazul mohammed was killed in a shootout with security forces this week in somalia. somali government official and a senior u.s. official has confirmed his death. they have confirmed his death. mohammed was the brains behind two u.s. embassy bombings. he was on the fbi's most wanted list for planning two blasts at the u.s. embassies in kenya and tanzania in august of 1998. the explosions killed 224, including 12 americans. the annual capital pride parade rolled through dupont circle today. the gay and lesbian celebration has been taking place in washington since 1975. there's a big festival tomorrow. the weekend of pride festivities is now the third largest in the country. paradegoers say it's about acceptance. >> i don't think we're totally there yet, but i think we're definitely making progress. and it is such a huge community. there's a lot of togetherness. because you have to be. because we're not all the way there yet. so i think celebrations like this are very important, just to keep things going, moving in the right direction. >> i hope that it sends everybody should feel pride like in who they are and they shouldn't be afraid to like come out of the closet or just not come out of the closet but come out and support. >> tomorrow's festival is on pennsylvania avenue. about 200,000 are expected to attend. folks who were at the parade day on the water turned deadly for a boater in ocean city today. a boat capsized around 9:00 this morning in the mouth of the ocean city inlet. six people on board went into the water. bystanders saw the boat tipping over and called the coast guard. rescuers were able to get everyone out of the water, but one man was unconscious. that man died at a nearby hospital. a hollywood power couple is showing off their big heart. brad pitt and angelina jolie are donating half a million dollars to help the tornado-ravaged town of -- brad pitt actually grew up in springfield, missouri. that's about >> looks like a calico. that would never happen to a dog, chuck. dogs don't get themselves in predicaments like that. >> they certainly do. >> yeah, they do. >> i'd love to be on the dog's side for that but i've seen too many dog stories that are pretty much the same deal. >> it's gotten a little cooler. >> yes. nice outside. most of the storms went either north or south of downtown tonight. but the good news is at least for those of us who live inside the beltway the cool air coming out of those thunderstorms provided us with a little break from the heat and humidity of earlier in the day. outside right now a mostly cloudy sky still hangs over washington. a mild evening but nowhere near as stiflingly humid as it's been the last couple of evenings. our high temperature, though, did make it up to a sizzling 93 this afternoon after a 76 degree start this morning. we're already back down below our morning low temperature. so that's a real break right there. current temperature 75 degrees. we're not going to go too much further. the dew points are in the upper 60s, and temperatures can never fall down below the dew point. temperatures equal dew point. that means 100% relative humidity. right now, though, low 70s across western virginia and suburban maryland. mid 70s alongside the bay. upper 60s how in the blue ridge and shenandoah valley. just a few lonesome sprinkles around downtown, dale city, down toward stafford as well. the heavier thunderstorms have stayed well up to our north here for the evening hours. strong thunderstorms now still across far northeastern maryland up toward metro philadelphia area. but that's all going to stay away from us. clear skies just back out to our west. we'll be quiet for now after a few little raindrops here late this evening. but there are changes on the way. that weather front will be dropping down through the area during the course of the day tomorrow, and as a result warm humid air out ahead of it as that front bumps into the air mass that we have in place. late morning tomorrow, we could get another round of thunderstorms to go. and just like today, you know, a couple of those storms could reach severe limits for a brief period of time, but by late afternoon tomorrow that front should be moving down to our south. and as a result a nice little cooling and drying trend is coming our way. on our microcast model here for the day tomorrow, quiet overnight tonight, but by 11:00 tomorrow morning that's when the little bubbling up with the showers and the thunderstorms gets going. most of that should be fading away by 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 in the afternoon. and after that it's clear sailing and cooler weather on the way. so for the wake-up time in the morning cloudy skies. maybe a raindrop or two but nothing big. wake-up temperatures upper 60s to mid 70s. and tomorrow. more clouds and sun, scattered showers and thunderstorms. not quite as steamy as it was today. but it will still be a hot and humid one with a high up near 90 degrees. at least a 50-50 shot you're going to get rained on tomorrow. but that's it. gorgeous june weather arrives for monday, tuesday, and wednesday with highs at or slightly below average. low 80s, lows in the low 60s. that means 50s in the cooler suburbs. heat, humidity, and storm chances coined of return late in the week. but boy, those monday, tuesdays, wednesdays are looking very nice. >> yeah, they are. thanks, buddy. coming up in sports, how the driver of this race car was able to walk away from the wreck the stronger the rapids, the more we loved it. took some wild risks when i was young. but i was still taking a risk with my cholesterol. anyone with high cholesterol may be at increased risk of heart attack. diet and exercise weren't enough for me. i stopped kidding myself. i've been eating healthier, exercising more, and now i'm also taking lipitor. if you've been kidding yourself about high cholesterol, stop. along with diet, lipitor has been shown to lower bad cholesterol 39 to 60 percent. lipitor is fda approved to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients who have heart disease or risk factors for heart disease.
