Tournament and this city. It was back in 2006 when he was playing in the thennationwide tour championship just down the road at the houstonian. He met the director here steve times. Hes had Great Success in this city and thats the way he secured his first pga tour card with that finish in that tour championship all those years ago, nine years ago. He said hes fallen in love with the area fallen in love with this golf course and now has a chance to stay alive although j. B. Holmes has a putt that would end it. That was a shame for Jordan Spieth to have that happen to him on his backswing. Doesnt look good for him to stay in the playoff unless he can make a snake up over that ridge. Roger . Yeah its got to go to his left as it comes up across the ridge, then once it gets on top, not a whole lot of break on it. Perfect read. Again, who makes more long putts than this young man . This is a special putt to make this one. This is not like j. B. s putt thats just sort of down the fall line. Think back when he won the valspar, he made a clutch up and down just to get into that playoff and ended up rolling in what was a birdie putt to finish off the tournament but a big ask again for spieth to try to stay alive. Theres holmes closing his eyes as if hes visualizing a birdie putt to win. Hes been doing a lot of waiting, hasnt he in the last couple of hours. He hit the ball first on the green. Maybe that will be enough. See if theres another miracle of that flat stick of his. Gave it a run, didnt he . You can see that disappointment on his face. Yeah. Had a great run, but this one was sort of his. He didnt have a great round when you think about it. Spieth with the lead shot 70 today. Of course j. B. Holmes shot a smooth little 64. Began the day six shots back of Jordan Spieth who was the 54hole leader. Roger, are you right behind this putt . Sort of down the track, isnt it . Pretty much john i think you got it just about dead right. Shouldnt be any problems getting it to the hole. As a matter of fact i think hes got to be a little bit careful with the speed. Holmes has had two runnerup finishes this season, one at doral, one in san diego, this for his fourth pga tour victory. Lost to jason day on a second playoff hole in san diego with a bogey. Definitely taking a lot of time time. Oh just like it looked like it was going to come back to the right, thats kind of what wagners putt did earlier. He talked about it with todd lewis. It looked like that might just veer right and get in. Really good stroke. It was pretty straight. All right. So Jordan Spieth picks up his mark. Hes out of it. Now wagner with a tapin to go back to the 18th and join j. B. Holmes for another ride down 18. That was quite the bunker shot he hit to knock it inside a foot and a half. Beautiful up and down for wagner. And they will go back to the 18th. Jordan spieth exits the playoff, holmes and wagner head back to the tough par 4. Farmers bell rings [prof. The 23rd playoff in 68 shell houston opens. Thats onethird of the time extra holes. Yeah thats unusual. A fun hole to watch to see if guys have the right stuff and handle their nerves and hit a great drive and still make a par. So as they make their way back we send you back to todd. Thank you, here with Jordan Spieth who has been eliminated from the suddendeath playoff. Jordan the bunker shot what happened with your third on the playoff hole . Im not sure. I heard something or maybe it was just me. Its not really an excuse but i had a really good lie. And i just got down into the sand a lot quicker than i nornl normally do and caught a fat. Didnt leave me with an easy chance to continue in the playoff. Still a great Easter Sunday and happy with the way i played down the stretch. Your last three starts on the pga tour, a bin, win, second place finish and second place finish. How much momentum are you taking to augusta for the masters . Yeah a lot. I feel as prepared as i think i could be. These last three out of four weeks, that i played i felt very comfortable. Felt more and more comfortable with more and more pressure and that gives me a lot of confidence going into augusta where you probably have the most pressure anywhere. Appreciate your time. Thanks todd. J. B. Holmes has it pegged and ready to go. Hes been clutch and perfect with his drives the last two trips down here. I mean just amazing just hammering it down that middle. You think hes due to hit a bad one but maybe not. Maybe this hole looks great to him. A little lefttoright wind. Boy, this is at that left side again. Man, he just keeps taking that left track. Man, thats a tough line to carry on. Thats hard to do. Looking at that water and the wind coming across. I will say its playing slightly easier. Its not misty rain that it was for a lot of the field. But still a lot of pressure. Johnson wagner leads the tour in deep breaths. Yeah. In one round. See if he can keep hitting it down the middle here. He did it yesterday. Done it twice today. Somebodys making noise. Still and quiet, please, thank you. Start over. Look to your target. Great practice. Sponsors exception into this tournament. Johnson wagner not backing down. Another great tee shot. Well he backed in there with j. B. The first time they played this the first playoff hole. But now hes way behind the longhitting j. B. Holmes. So wagner will strike that top second shot first when we return to the golf club of houston. Holmes Johnson Wagner making their way up to their tee balls on this second playoff hole at 18. Johnson won this tournament to get into the masters back in 2008. At that time he had to cancel a trip with his wife the charleston. And play in the masters. And hes got plans this week. His son graham is going to be celebrating his 6th birthday. They had a party planned for back home in charlotte, North Carolina but that Party Obviously would be moved to augusta, georgia, if wagners able to pull off a playoff win here over holmes. And holmes its interesting, he hit four out of 13 fairways not counting the 18th hole but the 18th hole three out of three. Couldnt hardly hit a fairway. And goes to the hardest hole and pipes it three straight times. So much has changed in wagners life since he won this tournament for his first win. 83 is the exact number we had just the second kind of almost right at that just right of it . Love it. Great practice swing. Well johnny he knows the number. Hes had 210, 209, now 207. Thats consistent. Maybe one of them will knock it stiff. Come on, wind. Headed at the right Center Section of the green. Thats a tough spot. Hes right on that spine hes got to deal with shoot left. Not a good leave really. If youre going to hit the green, thats not a good spot. J. B. Rog. 20 yards past his tee shot last time. Just 183 left this time. 170. Yes, thats perfect. Winds right here. Mostly off the right. 80 hole . 82 hole. Wagner takes deep breaths, holmes closes his eyes to get himself ready. With his ball flight he could aim ten feet of the hole and just hold it there and if he wanted to be aggressive, hes the guy that can do it. Thats a good routine. Have your target, man. Anything 15 feet left of the holes in the water. Just 15 feet. Well this is just right of the hole. He says be it. And it is. How about the way holmes has played this 18th hole . Now hes looking really good. Can he close out Johnson Wagner . Or does wagner have a surprise for him . trader vo watching. Waiting. For that moment, when right place meets right time. Jordan spieth exited after the first playoff hole. Now holmes and wagner both on the green, but j. B. Just stiffed this second shot in there, so hell wait and see if wagner can pull off some kind of miracle down there below coming up over the ridge. Wagner won here in 2008 as we mentioned, to get to augusta. Now hes trying to join Danny Edwards as the only players to win the week before the masters twice to get in. Edwards did it at greensboro in 77 and 82, and wagner trying to do it here just outside of houston 2008 and seven years later. Well first part of this putt shoots left. Of wagners. And then it flattens out. Thats exactly right, johnny. I got a good look from behind it. And it swoops from right to left. In that first part pretty hard. Overall probably got to put out there five or six feet. Not exactly a gimme to get inside six feet either. Mentioned how things have changed in wagners life since he won here. Two kids later. Back in 2008 he and his wife were in an rv. They used to travel around the pga tour in an rv and so did his parents. They had an rv here in houston. We mentioned how his father just got out of the hospital last week. And you know tommy is watching his son and is as proud as he can be. This for birdie up over the ridge. Hes carrying a lot of positive vibes. Well see if it helps. Got a little bit of speed. So now holmes again here at 18 will have a birdie putt to end it. This one a lot closer roger. As softly as hes got to hit this coming down the hill its got to dribble a little the his right, john. I think so. Hes got to get it off the hole on the left. Holmes began the day six back. Hes trying to pull off the largest final round comeback to win since matt jones did it right here a year ago. He was six behind matt kuchar before getting the best of him in a playoff. Not sure what he does when he attempts to plumb bob, because he doesnt have a clue of how to do it. You dont grab it and hold it comes down straight. You hold it with two fingers. I think he wants to close his eyes again and visualize it going in. This to win it again. Now, its going to force wagner to make this par putt to match it. Thats the classic miss. You know when youre under pressure you had a chance to win a playoff on the last hole to sort of leak to the right. Really common. I did a few of those myself. And so just another pressurized situation, notah, for Johnson Wagner. What about this putt . Well he saw it run down. Under the circumstance. If he misses it hes out. Certainly dont give the hole away. Playing the left center not a hard putt at all. The only way to miss this is just probably a little bit of nerves. This to continue the playoff at the 1st hole. J. B. Holmes wins for the fourth time in his pga tour career career. After a couple of runnerup finishes j. B. Holmes wins it with a par. And came that close for Johnson Wagner to get it back over to that 1st hole. It was sure a good try, but both players the heel beat the toe at impact. Hitting the green stiff made the difference. You wonder when you let him off the hook a couple of times, had a chance to close it out with birdies twice at 18 but in the end j. B. Holmes really played 18 more solidly than any of these three players in the playoffs wagner and spieth. So its j. B. Holmes who converts that 64 for the win, but first we get a word with the runnerup with roger maltbie. Thank you, dan. Johnson, i know you have to be terribly disappointed but there has to be a very uplifting part of this. Got in as a sponsor exemption, career wasnt going the right way. This has to really affirm all the work youve done doesnt it . Absolutely. The way i finished today, i played great. Making the birdie to even get in the playoff is pretty incredible. Im bummed right now. I love this event. If this is not my favorite one one of the top two o three on the tour. Im pretty disappointed but like you said a lot of good stuff going on. Looking forward to hilton head. I cant help but thinking your pop is watching and hes pretty proud right now. Hes absolutely watching. Man, its just a little bit of a bummer right now. I felt really good. But what are you going to do . Thanks for your time and being so gracious. Thanks. Over here with the champion j. B. Holmes. When you woke up this morning you were six shots behind the leader who happens to be the highest ranked player in the field in Jordan Spieth. How much belief did you have on the 1st tee that you could win this tournament . Thats not something you go on the 1st tee saying i need this to win. We had to play really low rounds if i had a chance started out great, worked out for me. You getting saluted by the band here. How much momentum do you have now . How much is your confidence been elevated as you go to augusta now for the masters . Any time you get a week where you can win, a big step going into the major. I went there monday, tuesday and saw the course. Hopefully ill be ready next week and hitting it well. Looking forward to it. Congratulations on the win. Thank you. An incredible comeback for j. B. Holmes and the brain surgery and all the other injuries that have stalled his career. Win number four. And it gets him up into the third position on the latest fedex cup points list. Jordan spieth and jimmy walker remain atop and the other movement of the top ten. J. B. Holmes wife erica with a congratulatory hug. Playoff win over Jordan Spieth and Johnson Wagner. Johnny when you go out like j. B. Holmes did and you oneputt nine of the first 12 holes and you go nine under the first 12 holes and shoot 64 the loews final round of his career always nice to finish that off in a victory. He played the best theres no doubt about that. Scored the best. The funny thing this is a rare stat folks, dead last in driving accuracy and wins the tournament. You dont see that every day. Youre kidding, after the way we saw him play 18 . 71st out of 71 guys. Another one of the crazy golf stats. I want to get your feel on the masters after the first major of the year. Rory tiger, its going to be good stuff. You got players really playing well and a lot of guys the masters have gotten to become a huge event, theres no doubt about it. Everybody wants to win the masters. But spieth should take some good vibs off of this. J. B. Holmes his game is perfect and hes strengthing really well. Dustin johnson, bubba watson then you got tiger and phil. It will be really fun to see what tiger does. Speaking of phil had a good couple of days here to start off. Not a good finish on the weekend. What are your thoughts about phil getting back into a green jacket . He was doing well thursday and friday but im not sure his game is really where he wants it right now. Well see. He comes alive at augusta national. We wish jim nance, nick faldo and company all the best at the first major of the year. Final round coverage of the lpgas first major of the year continues, happening right now on golf channel. The next stop for our team will coast for the wgc cadillac match play championship from san francisco. The bible continues and american odyssey. What a tournament swing it has been. Our sixth and final one here. Drama, highlights and in a playoff, j. B. Holmes puts the final exclamation point on it. The winner of the 2015 shell houston open. Adoption is part of our family you are story. Its just a different way of building a family. The birth mom can change her mind at any time. Yeah. And we always knew that. Its all a gamble. All they wanted buzzwas a baby to adopt. They ended up feeling hurt and cheated by the very people who promised to help them find one. There is nobody watching out for us but us. It sounds too heartless to believe. Are there people who prey on people leaving couples with empty wallets and empty arms. How does it feel seeing them doing this again . It makes sick
