Police have not released the mans name or any details about how he died. A man is recovering after he was shot during a home invasion. Police went to a home on east main street last night. Later yesterday, there were a couple fair weather clouds around. Isolated showers along the coast. We continue to watch, of course, the circulation associated with hermine well off to our northeast at this point. Its an extra Tropical Storm storm, meaning its not organized in the manner a Tropical Cyclone is, but its still quite powerful. On the west side of it we have a ridge of High Pressure at the surface, extending from northeast of new york into western pennsylvania, down into western North Carolina. Pretty dry air east of that high. A lot of and should stay mainly clear for the day. We do have a frontal system. Theres the low pressure area that constitutes hermune at this point. It looks like its drifting very slowly north now, 70 Miles Per Hour wind else. It will drift a little to the east, then back to the northeast over the next 2 or 3 days, eventually weakening. However, it could bring a bit of a pounding to the nearby coast in terms of high waves and some high water. Not possessive winds expected up there, and only associated with it along those coasts. We have those in control today. On the west side of hermine an upper level low close to it. High cirrus clouds that will move across parts of the eastern half of our viewing area during the late morning through the afternoon. But by Late Afternoon and evening, those clear out as well. Well have clear skies tonight, High Pressure and dry air dominate tomorrow. So expect our tuesday to basically be sunny from sun up to sun down approach. And well continue with fairly low humidity then as well. And with the High Pressure in control, our rain chances remain very low through next several days. Probably through the workweek, and they only come up a little bit for next weekend. Today were looking for a high around 86 degrees. Well remembering the day hurricane fran hit North Carolina nearly 20 years ago. We take a look back at one of the big issues following the storm that led to a lot of controversy in our area. Plus he was the cofounder of burts bees. How that company is putting a piece of his history twenty years ago, hurricane hammered North Carolina, carving a path of damage across the state. There was a lot of flooding in Johnston County, and some blamed water releases from falls dam. The army corps of engineers case. Bill leslie looks back at what happened. Reporter falls dam is located right about there. Reporter during hurricane fran, terry brown was the water control manager for the u. S. Army corps of engineers. He was responsible for managing floodwaters for car, jordan, and falls lakes, which were all affected by fran. One of the biggest conditions was just the immensity of the rain that came in. Reporter brown says some water had to be released from Falls Lake Dam floodwater coming in. The army corps of engineers is urn leashing a record amount of water downstream into the noos river. We were making minimum releases, about the lowest we could make legally. Reporter but brown says the Public Perception was the releases were causing downstream flooding. The water would not rise up anymore. They told us they wouldnt release it so much, and now theyre releasing more. Heres the input coming in the falls, this blue we were making. Reporter brown says downstream flooding was being caused by downstream rain and swollen tributaries flowing into the noos river. The corps of engineers says mondays flooding downstream in Johnston County is not directly attributable to the water release falls dam. We didnt communicate enough what we were doing and what we were not doing. Reporter brown says the corps did not change anything about the way fran, but it said it did to keep the media and public better informed in emergencies. Just fair weather clouds over North Carolina at times yesterday. Not an awful lot of those. Then clear skies here the night. Still the circulation associated with hermine off to our northeast. Certainly doesnt look the classic way that tropical systems do. Its got a frontal boundary associated with it. Its a low pressure area. Theres an upperlevel low just south its moving north slowly now, with 70 Miles Per Hour maximum sustained winds. But that upper level low will probably turn a little bit to the west a short time for the next day, day and a half. After that it kind of circles back um, parallels the coles. After a few days it will likely start to dissipate. It does bring enough impact to the United States, that there are Tropical Storm warnings in effect for long island up through the cape cod area this morning. And as we watch, one of the reasons they are under that warning is the potential for Tropical Storm force winds, and that means 39 Miles Per Hour winds sustained, and the chances of that is the probability next few days, about 50 to 05 for parts of cape cod, maybe 45 to 50 on long island. Of course much better chances the particular track that the storm is going to be taking next few days. Looks like, as far as we go, about the only thing its going to do is circle high clouds on the west side of that storm, upper level low into eastern North Carolina as we go through the curse of the day. Well see a few of those. Overall a large ridge of High Pressure extending in from our north and west looks like it will be the dominant feature for us today. Weve got sunny skies this morning. Well see those mixed with just a few high clouds afternoon hours. As the bulls have their 1st pitch at 1 05, plenty of sun, a couple high sir rise clouds. By 3 30 game should be just about wrapping up. The humidity fairly low at that point. Humidity stays fairly low tomorrow as well, although we get up to about 91 degrees. If youre out early tomorrow morning at 5 25, well have an International Space station pass overhead. It will appear high in the west, southwestern sky, in the sky, about 77 degrees above the horizon. So should be bright. And than disappears just 2, 3 minutes later, low in the nearby sky. Looks like well heat up more as we get into wednesday, thursday, and friday. By then, were turning more humid. We get into the mid90s on thursday and friday, edging down temperaturewise a little for saturday and sunday. Sunday probably our next chance with any chance of rain. Even that is quite low.
