Theyre already ready in brazil. Theyre gathering there for the big game. All around the world, people are waiting for this one. George is traveling with the president for a major interview today. And he even plans on watching a little soccer with the president on air force one. Thats pretty cool. The tv should be pretty nice. We have great news involving george and david. George is becoming chief anchor, as you know. He will still be here at gma and this week. But hes going to lead the way in breaking news, as he has so often already. The chief doing the commander in chief today. And this is going to be the chief of world news right here. David muir. He is taking over it now. I think they approve. The anchor of world news and the managing editor, as well, starting in september. Big congratulations to you. And diane is as happy as can be. She will be pursuing the indepth innovative reporting she loves bringing. Shell have specials and indepth interviews. She is excited about this chapter for her. You sat next to her here at gma. Ive been with her in the field at world news. And shes euphoric about this adventure for her. Thank you for that unbelievable im going to come back tomorrow. The viewers have been amazing in the last 24 hours. Ive been overwhelmed. As you know, robin, i have never forgotten that first call from Peter Jennings out in the field as a correspondent here more than a decade ago. And Charlie Gibson reached out yesterday. You did, and diane, just in incredible ways. Very deserving. Very, very deserving. Break out in we are family. Yeah. We are very happy and very proud. Were going to get started this morning with the frightening scene overnight in boston where more than 70 people at a concert had to be hospitalized. Officials citing chal and drug use. Reporter this is serious. 22 people in the hospital. So many others had to be strapped to stretchers, yelling, in tears. The chaos playing out right in front of one of the worlds superstar deejays. Overnight, a raging electric dance concert, turned into a nightmare. Theres some people that are not doing too well in there. Reporter with more than 70 concertgoers, mostly in their teens and 20s, falling suddenly ill during a packed concert, headlined by d. J. Avicii. There was one kid, it took four cops to get him down. Reporter 50 people treated on the scene. Officials citing alcohol, and molly, and suspected in the deaths of two concertgoers just last weekend in las vegas. We saw some people on the wall. And emts were going to them and taking them out on stretchers. Reporter not just on stretchers. Strapped to them. Some screaming and flailing their arms. This is any parents worst nightmare. This drug chemically cooks the brain over time. Reporter fortunately, none of the injuries were lifethreatening. And officials at the garden could not be reached for comment. But overnight, d. J. Avicii, tweeting my thoughts go out to those affected and their families. And whats really incredible, is this comes after 800 people were treated at that las vegas concert. Have to keep that in mind. Thanks, gio. Were going to turn to gma at the world cup. Were so envious. A ticket to the next round is on the line. And abcs paula faris, with the very difficult task of reporting again this morning from brazil. Paula, good morning. Reporter hello, there. Its been raining since last night. Almost certainly conditions on the field could affect the ability for fans to get to the stadium. But not these guys. Nothing would dampen the american spirit today. Usa. Usa. Reporter overnight, american fans, filling restaurants and bars. Meantime, players taking to the field wednesday for a final practice before todays big game against germany, one of the toughest teams in the tournament. The americans, strinting and stretching in an empty stadium that will soon be filled with 46,000 screaming fans. Jurgen klinsmann, the germanborn head coach of the american team, speaking at a press conference wednesday. Were by no means the underdog here in this tournament. But we know its the biggest hurdle we have to take, now, with germany. Reporter theres five germanamericans on the u. S. Team, including fabian johnson. Reporter team usa, with a gutwrenching goal on sunday. As of today, they have to beat or tie germany to ensure a place in the knockout round. Kyle beckerman says theyre ready. We have to give everything we got and more. Reporter while fans may have a difficult time getting to the stadium because of torrential downpouring and flooding, its not dampening their spirits. We went to the official team usa party, at a restaurant. Where will ferrell dressed headtotoe in a usa uniform, was waiting in the wings along with teddy. All before surprising a frenzy of unsuspecting soccer fans. I will bite every german player if i have to. Reporter if the americans win, or if they tie, they automatically advance. But these guys you heard it, robin. They believe that we will win tonight. It is game day. Back to you, robin. All right, paula. I love everybody in the when the birds on your side. Youre good. Im ready. Ready to go, arent you, michael . Alexi lalas is also ready to go. He joins us now from rio. Give us more of what paula was saying, the scenario for the party to keep going for team usa. I didnt bring my calculator. Theres a bunch of Different Things that can happen. The u. S. Is in a position tonight, where they can win. They can tie. And they can lose. And they can still go through. Im not going to give you all the different scenarios. But the reality is, u. S. Coming up against a very, very good germany team. If they play in the same way they played that second game against portugal, theyll be fine. This is a team that believes in itself. It finds himself in the third game of the tournament, in the group of death, with scenarios where they can get out of this group. And this is going to be a wonderful day for Jurgen Klinsmann, for soccer. But certainly, a day when people are looking at beet of these games. Not just the germany u. S. Game, but as the ghana game, as who goes through. And paula alluded to the weather. What kind of factor can that be . Its raining. It rains in the u. S. And it rains in germany, too. I dont think either of the teams care. It will probably be wet. But the reality is, the u. S. Has to go into this german game. And as Jurgen Klinsmann said, theyre not going in for a tie. Theyre going in to win. They believe they can give germany game. I believe they can give germany game. Make no doubt about it. This german team is stacked. This is a german team that wants to beat the u. S. They have wonderful individual talent. And collectively, theyre flying right now. Michael, you lived in germany for 18 years. You can confirm it does rain . It does rain in germany. Maybe a little harder than it does here. Alexi, we cant let you leave without a salute. Give us a salute. Thank you, sir. Now, it is official. We appreciate it. America. We will not miss todays big match between the u. S. And germany. You can see it on espn, beginning at 11 00 a. M. Eastern. Robin will be missing in the city. And youll know why. Were going to turn to the new details in the mystery of flight 370, the jumbo jet missing since march. Investigators say it was on autopilot and spiralling into the indian ocean. Theyre focusing their attention to a new search area. David kerley with the latest this morning. Reporter investigators this morning say the wreckage of this malaysian jetliner is probably somewhere in the 23,000squaremile orange area of this map, miles south of where they already searched underwater. And they think the jet flew on for hours on its own. Certainly, for its path across the indian ocean, we are confident that the aircraft was operating on autopilot until it ran out of fuel. Reporter but investigators believe when the 777 did run out of fuel, one engine quit before the other. That would put the jet in a corkscrew spiral, taking nearly four minutes to spin to the surface. All of this based on the jet signaling a satellite every hour. It is along that plat line that the jet likely spiraled into the sea. We are shifting our attention to an area further south along that arc. Broadly in the area where our first search efforts were focused. Reporter the Aerial Search of the new priority area was conducted three weeks after the jet went missing. And pilots and crews found nothing. Reporter at this hour, two ships are mapping the ocean bottom. But it is this orange area they will search first. But that wont start until august. And a new report out this morning, 57 pages that they admits that the pings they thought were from the black boxes were not. Another false lead on this per lexing issue. Now, to the rivers across the midwest, hardhit by some of the worst flooding in years. More rain is on the way. Alex perez is joining us this morning from st. Paul, minnesota. Good morning, alex. Reporter good morning, robin. The fastmoving waters have been rising all week. You can see just how high they are. Look at that lamppost there. Its almost completely under water. The 12yearold was found crouching behind a makeshift barricade, even though his father says he and the fbi had extensively searched the home. We looked in my basement. I looked. They went down there with search dogs. I thought my son was dead, man. Have you seen your son . No, i havent. He says his son had never hidden in the basement before. But were certainly glad he is okay. And finally, we all know its best to stay calm after a vehicle accident. But this is a whole, new level of calm. Take a look at ben and elizabeth newfeld. Apparently, took a turn in their los angeles driveway a little too quickly and flipped the car. Theyre 85 and 87 years old. And apparently have learned to not take life too seriously because after the car flipped over, theyre like, lets take a photo. You can see grand la right there, inside the vehicle. Shes actually trapped. They had to wait for police to get her out. Why not take an opportunity for a few family photos. Hes looking through the front like its an aquarium. Thats one of the strangest things ever. And the seat belt pulled his pants up really high, right . Ginger. Thats the only thing that could happen. Well check back with you in a few years and see where your pants are. Thats ginger zee. He looks good. So does the car. Give us another check of the weather now . Yeah. We are so glad theyre okay. Lets go ahead. Come on with me, now that im losing everybody. The forecast because that rain, the heavy stuff has pushed east of boston. We have a lot of news to get to. The chilling Police Interrogation tapes, just revealed in the shocking murder plot. 17yearold student, and its been foiled. The latest on the rob lowe family rescued by firefighters from floodwaters at their vacation home. The superstars son saying it was the scariest moment of his life. First this half hour, captured on tape, the chilling words of a teenager accused of plotting to bomb his school and kill his parents. Hes heard calmly telling the police in detail about his plot. Mara schiavocampo has that this morning. Reporter john ladue was arrested after a neighbor saw him heading to his weapons storeroom. And now, were learning about his alleged plot. And were learning it from him. This morning, a neverbeforeheard interrogation tape shared tuesday, john ladue, shares details about his alleged murder plot. My plan was to steal a recycling bin from the school. And take one of the pressure cookers i made and put it in the hallway and blow it up. Reporter the tapes document his alleged plan to commit the assault. On the tape, ladue tells investigators he wanted to first kill his parents and sister. Why would you dispose of your family. What have they done . They did nothing wrong. I just wanted as many victims as possible. Reporter before moving on to the school, where he says he wanted to plant bombs and attack survivors as they fled. I would detonate while people were fleeing, just like the boston bombings and blow them up, too. And my plans were to enter and throw molotov cocktails and pipe bombs. Reporter police say ladues plan was a year in the making. And testing homemade bombs, seen in this youtube video. Even hiding an explosive in an elmo doll. I am the one who is responsible for the co2 bombs at hartley elementary school. Reporter he never wanted to hurt children. And criticized sandy hook shooter, adam lanza. But what he didnt tell investigators, a motivation. Simply saying, he has psychological issues. I think im just really mentally ill. And no ones noticed. And ive been trying to hide it. Reporter hiding his violent fantasie fantasies, from everyone, including his father. He thinks im a good kid because i can lie pretty well and persuade him im just ordinary. Reporter a seemingly ordinary teen, accused of an extraordinary plot. Ladue has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which includes attempted murder. His next hearing will determine if he will be tried as an adult. Dan abrams is here. Before i get to that question. Let me ask you about the tapes that we just heard. How will they play . They will be very important pieces of evidence, in connection with this case. The charge here, the most serious charge is attempted murder. Its starting to sound like his family is suggesting he never would have actually done it. These were just fantasies. Things he had thought about. But was never going to actually act on. And thats why the tapes are going to become really important because if it ultimately gets to a jury, it may not. But if it did, they would have to evaluate how realistic was this . Was this the rantings of a mentally ill person who never intended to go through with this . Or was it the actual intent of someone who was going to go forward and try to kill these people . He went into great detail. And the fact that his voice is so calm. It sounds so certain and so smart, i think all of that will be a big problem for him. We heard what mara was saying about juvenile court. In minnesota, if youre accused of this kind of crime, theres a presumption it goes to the adult court. The child has the burden to prove why it shouldnt go. Theres a presumption it moves to adult court. And hes 17. Were going to turn to another case. This is an exclusive interview with peter roger, the father of elliot roger, the young man who killed 13 near Santa Barbara last month. And ever since the start, people have wondered, were there warning signs the parents should have seen. Peter roger, the father, sitting down with abcs barbara walters. How are you . Every night, i go to sleep. I wake up and i think of those young men and young women that have died. And were injured and were terrorized. And my son did that. My son caused so much pain and suffering for so many families. When you wake up in the morning, what do you think . Its like a reverse nightmare situation. When you go to sleep normally, you have a nightmare and wake up and everythings okay. Now, i go to sleep, i might have a nice dream. And i wake up, and its slowly the truth of what happened dawns on me. And thats my son was a mass murderer. You did not think that elliot was suicidal, or certainly not homicidal. Theres no way i thought that this boy could hurt a flea. I mean, this is the most unbelievable thing, barbara, and what i dont get. We didnt see this coming at all. Awesome to imagine being a parent of a child. Cant imagine that. You can watch barbaras interview, tomorrow night, 20 20, 10 00, 9 00 central. Lets go back to ginger and the weather.
