The big story on action news this noon, is developing. We are learning new information about an accident that killed a superintendant of schools in robbinsville, new jersey. We learned that dr. Steven mayer was struck by a Robbinsville High School students car. All students in robbinsville have been immediately shut down. Nora muchanic was at a News Conference that just wrapped up good afternoon. Reporter good afternoon. Police did not reveal many details about this accident except to confirm that a High School Student was the one that hit dr. Mayer. No summons are issued yet and no charges filed and the investigation into this tragic accidents continues. It happened at 6 15 this morning when superintendant of schools dr. Steven mayer was out jogging with his dog. He was not far from his home when he was struck by a vehicle. The student was an at Robbinsville High School who was rushing to get to a class trip. I think the whole commune need a time to mourn. I am trying to be as strong as mayer but i will go home shortly and have a good cry for my frien frie friend . The news of the superintendant passing has caused shock in the community. In honor of dr. Mayer we will fine our way back to normal as appropriately as possible. Steve always put the students needs first and well continue that as we work through this devastating loss. You were texting with him this morning. We text every day, steve was an incredible part of our community, he was a superintendant and coach and lived here and he was a friend and whenever we had something happen, he and i would always start talking. The first thing i did was reach out to him this morning. Of course the mayor did not know at the time that the superintendant was the victim of that accidents. Dr. Mayer is the father of three and his wife donna teaches at one of the local schools, she went looking for him when he didnt return from his run and was there at the scene. The female driver of the car involved in this accidents was taken to a Crisis Center and counseling is offered for students and staff at the high school and a vigil tonight for dr. Mayer. Thank you. Philadelphia police are looking for a suspect after a woman was founds with her throat slashed early this morning. The woman was discovered at 3 00 a. M. At the 2900 block of frankford avenue in Port Richmond by a man walking his dogs, they immediately called 911 and tried to help the woman on the scene, Annie Mccormick is trafficking the investigation and she will have details coming up at 12 30. The man accused of shooting a Philadelphia Police officer in the line of duty and his accomplice are waiting for their first court appearance. Scott griffin is said to have robbed a man and carjacked a woman at gun point sunday night. Police say that griffin got lock nood a battle with james mccullough, he was released from Presbyterian Hospital last night giving a thumbs up as he left. New jersey officials are due back in court. They are trying to get a judge to freeze Atlantic City spending until they hand over the money they onto the school system. They talked over the weekend trying to fine a path forward. Sweeney has put forth a plan that would see the state takeover the citys finances including canceling the unions bargaining right. Reporter we have an issue today, despite the fact that the humidity low, you get a red flag warning declared across the entire region, that means this afternoon and this evening, we have an enhanced chance of brush fires but not only starting but spreading real easily. Several factors are in play. No rain. It kind of just falls off the map in new york state. Fair amount of sunshine breaking through high clouds and fairly warm. Up to 76 degrees in philadelphia. 70 out in reading and 79 in millville. But the factor is the dew point. Temperatures in the 70s and dew points in the 40s. The larger the spread the lower the humidity is and the drier the air is. That is just what brush fires like. And flooding continues in the houston area. We have the latest from down south. Chopper 6 hd was over the scene where there was a number of vehicles and an suv stopped in the driveway. A 17yearold students from Robbinsville High School was driving the vehicle that hit dr. Mayer. No charges have yet been filed. Pray for both families, they are both involved. Both doctor mayers and the students family, we are praying for them all. Mayers wife is a teacher in the schools and they have two sons one attends the high school and all schools were closed today and crisis counselors were made available.
