Tracker six live double scan some light rain has managed to work its way into much of Chester County, berks county seeing some of this, the lehigh valley, northern Montgomery County and New Castle County, delaware and we are starting to see some of this jump the delaware bay and the southern portion of the Delaware River into salem county and cumberland county, new jersey. And its possible that in a half hour or hour when im out here on the terrace ill be wearing that rain jacket that ive got just inside the door on the coat stand. As we take a look the rain in the northern and western suburbs isnt going to last all that long. In philadelphia well probably be dealing with it up until about lunchtime and then after that well be on the bubble. The rain is going to hang for awhile though in south jersey and delaware and could even be steady at times later this afternoon. 62 degrees in philadelphia currently, 62 in wilmington, 57 in allentown a little cooler right down by the shore but in general a mild start and it looks like a damp tuesday across much of the region. We will get up to 65 for a high by 3 oclock. And by 8 oclock well be up to 60 again but a wet morning in the i95 corridor and staying wet in much of south jersey and delaware, straight up until dinnertime, maybe even into early this evening. When i step inside well show you the progression of the rain on Storm Tracker six and future tracker six and then well have better conditions can coming in the accuweather 7day forecast. Matt, what about roads early on. The people that are getting into work really early this morning david are missing those wet conditions because around the city its still dry at this point. You can see that as you look live at the vine street expressway. You also see plenty of taillights starting to stack headed westbound towards 76. Nothing out of the ordinary, just some building volume. And the eastbound side of the vine has reopened as advertised. It was closed overnight between the schuylkill and broad street for that new construction project and its scheduled to close again tonight around midnight. So warning for then. May want to stick with the schuylkill and 95. This is 95 starting to stack southbound approaching the work zone at cottman avenue again just normal morning volume kicking in. And david told us parts of Chester County are starting to get wet. Not this part yet. This is downingtown in the 30 bypass. Eastbound come the headlights still moving along fine, no delays and dry conditions. Still a few work zones to watch out for on the turnpike in Chester County around the interchange with route 29 and again at valley forge but on the northeast extension near quakertown the work zones have cleared. Matt and tam. Okay, thank you, matt. A young boy suddenly darted out into the street right in front of an suv. The boy didnt survive and the driver took off. Action News Reporter Annie Mccormick is live at 57th and warrington streets in southwest philadelphia. Good morning annie. Reporter good morning tam. And this Morning Police have released new information that they hope leads to help track down the driver that they say is responsible for striking and killing that little boy. New this Morning Police are looking for a black ford edge that looks similar to this one. They tell us its a 2011 to 2014 model a limited edition with chrome trim on the window. It was around 6 30 last night that witnesses say a fouryearold boy darted into the roadway near the intersection of 57th and litchfield. He was transported to chop where he was pronounced dead a short time later. This Surveillance Video is too graphic to show in its entirety but it shows the driver of the vehicle struck the child sending him flying 15 feet down the roadway. The driver then literally runs over the unconscious youngster before speeding away. Several witnesses tried chasing the driver while the boys mother tried reviving her son. Witnesses also tried to help and called 911. I noticed the little young boy coming out of litchfield street right behind us and when he got in the middle of the street i heard a lady holler go back go back. I saw her once she came out and she was really, you know it was horrible to watch because she was just crying, crying for the babys name. It was horrible. Reporter and police are back out here at the scene at 57th and litchfield this morning looking for any more evidence. They do believe after reviewing that Surveillance Video that they did obtain several time that the driver is female. Of course if you have any information, you will urged to contact police. For now were live in southwest philadelphia, Annie Mccormick, channel6 action news. Okay, annie thank you. Philadelphia police are also looking for the driver who took off after striking a mother and child as they were trying to cross the street. This happened at mascher street and lehigh avenue in the citys West Kensington section just before 7 00 last night. Authorities say a 20yearold mother and her threeyearold son are now in very critical condition. Investigators are looking for a late model sedan of a japanese brand possibly a nissan acura or infiniti. An airport worker in seattle fell asleep on the job. Whats more, he was caught napping inside the cargo area of an airliner and when he woke up, that plane was no longer on the ground. Erin ohearn is live at the big board with the full story. Erin. Maybe under a desk would have been a better option but obviously we all know here what its like to get up on the early shift. An airport workers shift started around 5 00 a. M. And ended with an unfortunate nap in the cargo as an Alaska Airlines flight was departing. Heres some video from inside the cabin. This is exactly what passengers heard during the first few minutes in the air. Guy in the yellow right in the middle. Little difficult to hear there but he was banging and the plane had just taken off yesterday afternoon when the sleepy employee realized what was happening. So he started banging for help. You could kind of hear in that video we just showed you. He could be heard by both the pilots and first class passengers on flight 448. Lets take a listen because the audio from the flight has been released and you can hear the captain calling in the incident when he realizes there is someone trapped in the cargo reporter indeed there was a person in there. The captain immediately returned to the seattle airport for an emergency landing. The flight was in the air for about 14 minutes. The employee was able to walk off the flight unassisted after being checked out by medics. He was also checked out at a hospital and he did pass his drug test. So apparent he was just sleepy. The airline has not released his name. The flight ended up departing before 4 00 p. M. And was about an hour late for its arrival in l. A. But matt all those passengers had a pretty good story to tell when they arrived. I like your idea of sleeping under a desk next time. Thanks erin. Back to you matt and tam. Thanks maribel. Lets talk about that rain. All right, lets look at it. Storm tracker six live double scan shows you its continuing to filter across the region from west to east. If we take that two dimensional view you can see allentown and reading have a thin band that will probably be pushing through a little later this morning and then youre looking at some drying up there but in philadelphia and points south the rain is going to hang out a lot longer. And were actually going to see a rather wet morning in the i95 corridor and probably a wet afternoon in areas down south. Most of the rain that you see is fairly light but every now and then we get a little darker shade and this is definitely making roads wet. Looks like norristown is just about ready to pick some of this up. Theres the blue route. Thats still dry for now if youre getting out early and i95 Still Holding onto dry conditions from areas just to the north of wilmington but just barely and not for long. As we take a look outside we have cloudy skies across the region right now including at the shore. No rain yet in Atlantic City and eveny you can even see a streak of brightness in the distance there. Temperatures are mild to start out. Were at 62 degrees in philadelphia, 62 in wilmington still in the up are 50s in allentown and reading. Those arent bad numbers for this time of year and morning. Cooler by the shore where you have a bit of a flow coming off the ocean. As we take a look at future tracker six by 9 oclock we expect the northern suburbs possibly to be dry but between 9 oclock and noon were still very close to the rain in philadelphia. And even during the afternoon theres the possibility that some of this just shoots across the city but obviously its the heavy rain down south that were going to be keeping our eyes on today and you can see that thats off and on straight up until 5 oclock and probably into the evening hours as well. And when you look at how much rain were expecting in philadelphia, not all that much. Most of the models putting less than a half inch down. And i think probably a quarter inch is a pretty good bet but if you look down to Atlantic City, heres where youre getting some models showing one to 2 inches of rain and farther down the coast even more so i would be careful of not only ponding and puddling on roadways in these southern areas but maybe even some street flooding in some spots where the rain really pounds down. As we take a look at allentown cloudy skies morning showers tapering off and then you probably stay fairly gray but a high of 66 and basically dry in the afternoon and down the shore thats where youre going to have rainy conditions pretty much all the way and steadier rain at times, 64 is the high there. And in philadelphia were going tore a high of 65, clouds showers in the morning and in the afternoon well be real close to that cutoff area. Occasional there will might still be an afternoon shower popping through but its not going to be as bad in philadelphia as it will be down in areas to the south. Your exclusive accuweather 7day cloudy with showers today, steadier rain down south through the afternoon. 65 degrees. Were hoping for some drying in philadelphia but its going to be cloudy in the afternoon even if it stops raining. Partly sunny on wednesday 68. Cooler on thursday but still nice with a high of 61 and dry conditions. Lots of clouds on friday, 66 and spotty passing showers possible, not a real big deal and then saturday improvement. Up to 71, clouds and sun. It no longer looks likes a day that features a lot of rain. Sunday 66 and clouds and sun. Nice for the Union Playing at 5 oclock at home. Storm tracker six is watching out for rain during the morning commute. We have accuweather and traffic updates to help you through it. Nothing seems to be moving along the Delaware River where a ship ran aground. Lets update you on what he know. The action cam is live near where this is happening at the Rancocas Creek where it feeds into the Delaware River. Thats the norde explorer. It ran aground basically because it was low tide. It wasnt really carrying anything so it wasnt weighted down butter it ran aground because the water level was so low and what theyre going to do is just sit and wait for high tide to come back. Thats going to be a little bit after 10 oclock, so this ship may be there for quite some time. Nothings leaking, no one has been injured nothing is wrong. Its just that this ship is going to have to wait some time for the tide to come back up and so it can move again. Well follow it for you with the action cam live. Good morning. It is 6 30 now on this tuesday april 14th. Dave murphy, its raining out there but its still kind of warm if youre stuck not a bad day to be sitting out there looking at the water. Yeah, no kidding. Fairly mild. We are looking at rain, though,. In the last half hour it has arrived here on the terrace. As we take a look at Storm Tracker six live double scan showers now popping up over south jersey as well. Notice how in allentown and reading, yeah, its raining but youre getting the other side of it. It doesnt look like youre going to get much of a hit in those Northern Areas but philadelphia probably stuck with this rain up until about lunch time and maybe a little bit off and on through the afternoon. Its south jersey and delaware where i think youre just stuck with the rain pretty much from now through most of the rest of the day and it could even be steady at times in areas south of philadelphia. Satellite and radar showing you the wide view. Even to notice northern and Western Areas where youre going to give up the rain fairly quickly this morning youll probably maintain fairly cloudy skies. 62 right now in philadelphia. Tam mentioned that we are mild this morning. 62 in wilmington. 57 in allentown. 60 in millville. A little cooler right down by the shore. A damp tuesday then especially at the start across the region. 62 degrees currently on your Storm Tracker six app. By 8 oclock down to 60. By noon we may actually be even cool interphiladelphia at 59 with the rain falling but then we expect drying during the afternoon hours. The exception will be south jersey and delaware where just to the south of philadelphia we could see rain lingering in through much of the afternoon and steady at times closer to the shore. Ill illustrate that with a look at future tracker six coming up. For now matt pelman war roads looking like . Starting to look wet right. Starting to look damp in a few hours. You know how this goes david after we havent seen rain for a few days sometimes when it starts to come down the roads are a little extra slippery because of the oil thats accumulated on the roads over the last few days and hasnt washed away. Already were seeing some accidents, one just popped up here on the schuylkill westbound as you round the curve right here by gulph mills. You can see the vehicle partially sticking out into the right lane. Now luckily back there in the trees a penndot truck is kind of warning drivers of the accident just up ahead. But watch out for a little slowing as you come west of the blue route and head towards king of prussia this morning. Also slow here on the vine street expressway westbound side approaching the schuylkill. The eastbound side of the vine is reopened. Was closed as advertised overnight for that brand new construction project that will continue tonight as midnight. And 95 definitely slow by now southbound side from academy through this point at cottman again the betsy ross bridge into girard, nothing were not used to. Construction that ran a few minutes late on the a. C. Expressway heading toward the meet up with the 42 freeway. Its gone now. Lanes are opened but still a few slow speeds in area. Matt and tam. Thank you matt. Surveillance video captured a deadly hit and run that killed a fouryearold boy in southwest philadelphia. Police hopes it helps them tack down the driver who fled the scene. Action News Reporter Annie Mccormick is live where it happened at 57th and litchfield streets. Annie. Reporter and matt, after reviewing that Surveillance Video multiple times Police Believe theyve identified the type of vehicle that was used during this fatal hit and run. Take a look. This is the picture they want all of you to see. They say that this is a black ford edge. This picture looks like very similar to the one that was involved in the hit and run. Its a 2011 to 2014 limited Edition Model with chrome trim on the window. Now, around 6 30 last night witnesses say a fouryearold boy darted into the roadway near the intersection of 57th and litchfield. He was transported to chop where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Now, this Surveillance Video where they originally saw that vehicle we just showed you is too graphic to show in its entirety but it does show the driver of the vehicle it shows where the driver struck the child sending him 15 feet down the roadway. Now, the driver then literally runs over the unconscious youngster before speeding away. Well several witnesses tried chasing the driver while the boys mother tried reviving her own son. Witnesses also tried to help and called 911. I noticed the little young boy coming out of the litchfield street right behind us and when he got in the middle of the street i heard a lady holler go back, go back. Reporter and back out here live it was right here where police say down litchfield they do believe that that young fouryearold did come running down and then they do believe that that vehicle was headed northbound down 57th street and thats where the impact was around this area. Now, they do believe that the driver is a woman. Of course if you recognize that vehicle, if you need another look you can head to our web site 6abc. Com and if you have any information you are urged to contact police. For now reporting live in southwest philadelphia, Annie Mccormick, channel6 action news. Okay, annie thanks. Philadelphia police are searching for a second hit and run driver who fled an accident scene in West Kensington last night. He shot and killed a suspect later saying he thought he had pulled his taser not his gun and his qualifications are now in question. Erin ohearn is live at the big board with this story. The reserve Deputy Robert bates is a businessman who donates equipment and cars to the tulsa Sheriffs Department and an attorney for the family man killed has says these donations amounted to bates paying the department to play cop. You can see eric harris running from police after he allegedly sells a gun to an undercover tulsa deputy. Moments later bates warns hes going shoot his taser but instead fires his gun. You can hear him on camera apologizing. An hour later harris is dead. And the Sheriffs Department says in the heat of the moment bates made a horrible mistake not realizing he had drawn his gun and again he even warned his colleagues that he was going to use his taser just before he pulls the trigger of what ends up being the gun. A sergeant with the Tulsa Police Says bates was was in high stress situation a person intends to do something but instead says something else. Some experts calling this junk science. The family of harris is speaking out alongside their team of lawyers demanding transparency and justice. We come to expose it. We can um to pull the mask off the evil. We come to shine the light on the darkness. Tulsa county Sheriffs Department way as transparent as they alleged to be everything would be forth coming. The tulsa Sheriffs Department insists 73yearold bates is more than qualified to be on the street and has had 300 hours of training and has completed 1100 hours of community policing. But again critics questioning if he should have been involved in such a sensitive operation considering he is a volunteer. There are claims that harris was violent and on pcp but his family said those claims are false. Tam, back to you. Okay, erin, thank you. You can see that exclusive interview coming and next on gma. 6 39 now and some rain moving in from the west going to leave many people damp this morning david. Yeah, already damp across much of the region matt. Storm tracker six live double scan shows you that we do have showers but if i go in tighter you can see most of our most heavily traveled roadways in philadelphia are getting wet with off and on light rain moving through. Lots of south jersey being covered by this as well. And of course out to the west in place like New Castle County delaware and Chester County, pennsylvania, its been raining a little bit longer and the roads perhaps a little bit wetter out there. The wide view also shows that you in allentown were getting close to the end of this, same thing in reading so those northern and western suburbs probably not having to deal with a lot of rain this morning at all. In philadelphia all that stuff to the west still has to get through and youll probably be fairly wet through the morning hours. Were hong for some afternoon drying. Its areas south of philadelphia in south jersey and delaware where i think the rain hangs on pretty much through the rest of the afternoon and eventually gets steadier. As we take a look outside we have cloudy skies across the region including in penns landing where it is now starting to get wet. Weve been kind of waiting on it for the last couple of hours and now it is here. 62 degrees is your current temperature in philadelphia. The winds southsouthwest at 8 Miles Per Hour. Winds not all that strong today. Future tracker six shows that you story by nine, 10, 11 oclock where the northern and western suburbs are dry. But in philadelphia were very close to that borderline where there might still be some sprinkles and perhaps a little passing shower coming through but the main rain centered down to the south and, see how its steadier rain highlighted in yellow and maybe even a little bit of orange at times thats fairly steady rainfall. Same thing by 4, 5 oclock this afternoon. Steady rain down to the south. Philadelphia may be still getting just a little bit of a sprinkle or quick hitting shower and thats going to be the story in through the early evening hours as well. What are we expecting . Well you can see from that future tracker imagery how were not getting much of anything to the north. Philadelphia may be pile up to about a half inch or less but down to the south the farther you stepdown toward the shore the more and more rain you see and there is a concern of some flooding on roadways the farther south you go through south jersey and delaware from this rain today. 60 degrees by 8 oclock in philadelphia. Down to 59 by 11 oclock while its still raining and then we expect the temperature to come back up to 65 by about 3 oclock this afternoon. And then go back to 64 by 5 oclock. Staying cloudy today across the region but most of our rain in the i95 corridor in the morning. The farther you go south from philadelphia the longer youre going to have to deal with this rain perhaps right into the evening. Cloudy skies and showers. You see everybody getting up into the 60s pretty much across the region. And then tomorrow that system is off the coast and we wind up way nice bounce back temperature of 68 degrees with no worse than partly sunny skies tomorrow. Your exclusive accuweather 7day, todays high 65, cloudy skies, showers in the morning. Tapering off in the northern and western suburbs later this morning. Probably holding on until about lunchtime in philadelphia and then a little spotty shower activity right around philadelphia the rest of the way. The farther south you are through the region the steadier rain you get and the longer it holds on probably straight into the evening down the shore. Partly sunny on wednesday, then 68.
