And we continue our breaking News Coverage this afternoon. The withdrawal of the American Healthcare and act that has appeared moving towards defeat. Speaker paul ryan now know you speaking about that. Lets listen live. Obamacare and which probably most troubling is the worst is yet to come with obamacare. Im also proud of the long inclusive member driven process that we had. Any member who wanted to engage constructively to offer ideas to improve this bill they could. And i want to thank so many members who helped make this bill better. A lot of our members put a lot of hard work into this. I also want to thank the president. I want to thank the vice president. I want to thank tom price rick mull vain 19 the entire white house team. The president gave his all in this effort. He did everything he possibly could to help people see the opportunity we had business this bill. Hes really been fantastic. Still, we got to do better and we will. I absolutely believe that. This is a setback no two ways about it but it is not the end of the story because i know that every man and woman in this conference is now motivated more than ever to step up our game to deliver on our promises. I know that everyone is committed to seizing this Incredible Opportunity that we have and i sure. Talk about real people. Now youve got a law on the books. You guys dont like the language but its going to be at the law. Do you plan to try to help it along and chop it up. This is the problem the question is do we kind of prop it along and try and prop it up. It is so fundamentally flawed i dont know that that is possible. What were really worried about is and youve heard me say this all along is the coming premium increases that are coming with a death spiraling Healthcare System. That is my big concern. We just didnt quite get consensus today. What we have is a member driven process to try and get consensus. We came very close but we did not get that consensus. Thats why i thought the wise thing to do was not proceed with a vote but to pull the bill and see what we can do but i dont think the law as it is fashioned or anything close to it is really going to be able to survive. Work on legislation now. Well see. Well go back and figure out what the next steps are. Yeah. Can you explain the conservatives Freedom Caucus [inaudible] are they responsible for the defeat today. I dont want to cast blame. There is a block of no votes that we had that is why this didnt pass. They were sufficient number of votes that prevented it from passing and that he didnt change their votes. We were close. Some of the members of that caucus were voting with us but not enough were and therefore and i met with their chairman earlier dan he made it clear to me that the votes werent going to be there from their team and that was sufficient to provide the balance to not have this bill passed. Speaker, you all swept the house won the majority with the promise to repeal obamacare. The majority of the senate,. Thats right. The white house with the promise to repeal obamacare. How do you go home to your constituents saying you know what, its not in the ability of this administration. Sorry folks. Dana, thats a really good question. I wish i had a better answer for you. I really believe obamacare is a law thats collapsing its hurting families its not working. It was designed in a fundamentally flawed way. We believe this bill is the best way to go but we just didnt quite get the consensus to get there. Question for you if you dont mind. Bottom line is obamacare right now remains the law of the land. Thats right. Is that going to change in 2017 . Yeah, i dont know what else to say other than obamacare is the law of the land. Its going to remain the law of the land until its replaced. We did not have quite the votes to replace this law and so yeah were going to be living with obamacare for the foreseeable future. I dont know its going to take us to replace this law. My worry is obamacare is going to be getting even worse. Actually i think we were probably doing the democrats a favor. I think we were doing the architects of obama a favor by passing this law before it gets even worse. Well, i guess that favor is not going to be given to them and its going to get worse. So i dont think the architects of obamacare im sure they may be pleased right now but when they see how bad this thing gets based on all the projections were being told by the plans that are participating in obamacare i dont think theyre going to like that either. Look, five states you got one plan left. We came close but we came up short those are the words from Speaker Paul Ryan today as the American Healthcare act cruising toward defeat was pulled at the request of president obama rather, President Trump and of course Speaker Paul Ryan a as he just said, a big major defeat for the white house. President trump all in on this bill he supported it and of course for republicans who for seven years expressed anger over obamacare but when given the chance to fix it, came up short in their effort to do so. Continuing coverage on this right here this afternoon. In the meantime well send it over to alicia at the big board. And theres a situation thats happening out of and washington, d. C. Right now generating a lot of concern and outrage among parents and teens. The number of missing teens in that city many black or latino seems to be increasing at an alarming rate but d. C. Police maintain the numbers here dont tell the whole story. These tweets from d. C. Police highlight nearly a dozen black teenaged girls who were reported missing in just three days. The alerts now have Community Members in washington both frustrated and scared. Cant go nowhere by ourselves. We cant do nothing because we have to get word about somebody trying to take us. The teens are among 38 people now listed as missing on d. C. S Metropolitan Police site. Many of them are black or latino teenaged girls. It should be known that theres a possibility. Concerned hundreds packed a town hall meeting this week worried their children were being targeted but according to city officials, there arent more girls missing, theyre just doing a better job of raising awareness. I just implemented a process to assure that all critical missing persons receive the same level of Police Service and media attention. D. C. Police tell abc news all of the 38 people who are currently missing walked away voluntarily and four teens in the initial series of tweets have since been located but those still missing could be in real danger. Thats why d. C. Officials are turning to social media to bring grader awareness. There certainly is a disparity between when you have a missing person of color and a missing white person. If someone is classified as a run away they certainly dont get media attention. In d. C. Officials say right now their hands are tied because by law, an amber alert cannot be issued for run aways, only when its believed the child has been abducted or is in imminent danger so and officials are urging parents to contact their lawmakers if they want that changed.
