Clintons Vice President ial pick, tim kaine, officially won the nomination for Vice President. The motion was approved on the Convention Floor following a voice vote. You see him there. He will speak to the delegates as well tonight. Earlier today he got a look around the stage as he prepared. Pennsylvania governor, tom wolf was there as well. And legendry musician Lenny Kravitz was there for a sound check and he will lady gaga and Dj Jazzy Jeff for an invitation only concert. We have jeff now with details on how Philadelphia Police are handling the heat and the dnc. Walter perez is live with more protesters, but we begin with new jersey correspondent, nora muchanic, live on the Convention Floor behind me. Reporter hi there monica, we are next to the jersey delegation and they started out at 4 30 this afternoon, that is when they did the voice vote to make tim kaine the Vice President ial nominee, and that got everybody excited. The delegates are still arriving at this point. The tonights proceedings begin tonight after a history making night last night when the convention voted Hillary Clinton as the first female nominated for president. They are savoring that moments and looking forward to tonight. It was emotional and so exciting to see a woman cross that threshold and for hillary to come out at the end it was magnificent. New jersey delegates are still excited after the voice vote to make Hillary Clinton the first woman in america to get a major nomination for president. And supporters of Bernie Sanders say they are ready to follow the lead and support secretary clinton. Every election has a winner and loser, and we came up short and he did the right thing. Well support hillary. Will you do it . Yes, i am. I am for the revolution, i will support hilly because im a democrat through and through. They are anticipating the speeches especially the one from time tim kaine, the pick for Vice President. We want to see who taim kain is. I think it will be more Foreign Policy oriented and why we need hillary to continue the obama policies. Delegates are getting excited about supporting the Clinton Kaine ticket. We expect they will take that home and use social media to carry that message and the rest of the new jersey voters will get as excited as we are. Back live now that of course is the goal to get democrats excited to work for the ticket. Most of the delegates are still arriving. The new jersey delegation has a few empty seats then will hear from the current Vice President joe biden and president barack obama who is expected to tell the room that Hillary Clinton is the torch bearer for the Democratic Party. Im nora muchanic, channel 6 action news. Thank you. Another day of the convention brings out the protesters again. Walter perez is live in center city with what is happening there now. Hi walter. Reporter hi monica, a live look at the crowd gathered here in center city. An Organization Called black men for bernie organized this one. Several hundred people were here during the heat listening to speakers including bernie delegates and jill stein, the Green Party Candidate for president who just wrapped up her speech moments ago telling the crowd to continue what they call the revolution. Ten occupied protesters were detained by police after zip tying themselves inside of the comcast center. Referring to media corruption and burny supporters rallied outside. We need the revolution to continue. Many of the younger bernie or bust protesters we spoke with yesterday said they are now turning their backs on the Democratic Party, but George Hannah says many others are looking to continue what sanders started. We are looking at down ticket candidates to support and plant the seeds of the revolution within the party and allow it to grow up. So in the next 10 or 15 years they will become the establishment candidates. This was organized by a group called black men for bernie led by a man named bruce carter, who understands the frustration. We are not mad, but we are talking about what we have been through and what kept us and what we do to keep going. Centsments echos by many in the crowd. Several of those that say they didnt take sanders endorsement as a slap in the face. He did the best he could. And now its time for the people here and all around philadelphia and around the country to stand up and take the country back. Is he going to be ross perot . My son doesnt know who that is . Police say the rallies and protests are relatively peaceful. And finally if you dont know who ross perot is, google it. Thank you walter. Things get stormy and temperatures drop back into the 80s but we are looking at the center city skyline. Some fair weather cumulous clouds and not much of a breeze, its hot 92 in philadelphia and allentown 90 and reading 92 and Cape May Point you cooled off to 78 and trenton 91 degrees, satellite 6 along with action radar showing a boundary down to the south, and what this is doing is its separating the oppressive human air. Just about an hour ago, Hillary Clintons Vice President ial pick, senator tim kaine was officially nominated. As we look from inside of the Wells Fargo Center the floor is packed with delegates and the crowd is getting ready for another big night. Action news anchor Monica Malpass is live in side with more coverage. Hello rick, just about an hour ago, tim kaine officially won the Vice President ial nomination. All in favor of the motion to suspend the rules and nominate by acclimation, tim kaine as the democratic nomination for the Democratic Party all sayyes. Its an opportunity to for him to introduce himself to the country and nominee Hillary Clinton arrived herself in philadelphia. She is set to take the stage tomorrow night but first there is political star power addressing the country here tonight. Including president barack obama and Vice President , joe biden. Another big moment today is when the democrats took a chance to honor a key leader in the civil rights movement, congressman john lewis, he spoke at the museum today and said that voting is the most powerful nonviolent tool in a democratic society. Kareem abduljabbar was also there. At the last Democratic National Convention Held here in philadelphia. We are inviting you, our action news viewers to be part of our coverage, we hosting a debate at the famous 4th street deli in Queen Village. That is where we find nydia han tonight. Reporter hi monica, this is so much fun, one thing we faced off about today was the bernie or bust movement. Supporters that are not willing to give up the fight for the burn. We were told that this is not a moment but a movement that goes far beyond the nomination for president. They want the dnc to know we know what is going on especially after wikileaks released the emails that truly exposed the dnc. They need to let it go and get in back of Hillary Clinton and pull the Democratic Party together. Folks faced off about raising the minimum wage. Alfred worked at Philadelphia International airport as a baggage handlerer, he made 7 an hour for many years and then got a wage increase to 12 an hour last summer but says that getting a wage increase to 15 an hour is an absolute necessity. Living in the state of poverty is not good for anyone. You have the money in your pocket you put it back into the economy. 15 across the board across the country, its not practical and has to be indexed to the cost of living with the employees live in. If you double what you have to pay the employees, suddenly we are strapped with the idea of do we fire someone . Do we reduce everyones hours so they are parttime . And the debate rages on and coming up tonight an tomorrow, we are facing off here at 4th street and immigration and black lives matter and how women are factoring in. One the big sellers at the Independence Mall gift shop is the led American Flag toy im using it as a fan and merchandise is going quickly and the funnier the better. Misdemeanor on the street to gift shop finds. Humor, like the donald trump socks. Purchases are made left and right. At the Visitors Center gift shop on Independence Mall, can you find mugs, paper dolls and laughing pens. And believe it or not. The best selling tshirt, this one that says president ial election 2016, moving to canada. That sold out in a few days. A gentlemen called he bought a shirt here a few weeks ago and someone stole it from him and he wanted to order another one. A hillary in the box may amuse Young Political minds. How about that for guessing in advance . If you need to cool down a chillery iced coffee may help and patriotic short bread and cheeky dnc gifts have tourists popping in from dog and cat chew toys to toilet paper, the aim is to lighten up what many call a heavy election season. I think people are trying to curb their attitude in a humorous way, and play it in, its a little intense for a lack of a better term. One thing that surprised people is that the donald trump merchandise is selling just as well as the Hillary Clinton stuff and dont forget about the Bernie Sanders stuff, those gifts are some of their best sellers and some sold out completely. Thank you trish. We appreciate that. And remember we are constantly posting updates on what is happening inside and outside of convenience, go to action news on social media. Well, with the dnc going on now there are traffic restrictions out there believe it or not. Matt pellman is back in the Traffic Center with an update. Are we used to these yet . We are jamming here on 95 approaching the weight check because of restrictions by the airport. The northbound lanes are packed in once again and southbound is packed in from allegheny to girard where that Police Check Point blocks the left lane and once again this afternoon the delays on 95 because of the check points and later on this evening we expect rolling closure as long 95 especially between the airport and the Wells Fargo Center once the president gets into town during the 9 00 hour. Later on you see complete closures of 95. Crash on the schuylkill eastbound approaching passyunk is gone and still jammed there as is our vehicle fire at 202, its cleared but a solid line from 202 to the conshohocken curve. Eagle road is shut down at Cabrini College and upper gulf road gets you around that. And on the regional rail, the worst of i have seen is 33 minutes but the broadway line running the whole way south to at t and you can take that down as well for this evenings festivities. Thank you matt. A construct worker is recovering after falling from the bridge. Still to come on action news tonight well go back live to the dnc in philadelphia. The latest from eagles camp, veterans report today and one eagles linebacker following an alleged assault in florida. We hit a high of 94 degrees, making this is the sixth day of the long of the heat wave of the year, and well go one more before storms put an end to it. Time for sports jaime is here now. And eagles veterans show up to work today. Tomorrow a full squad workout. Things are about to get crowded in south philadelphia even with the dnc here. Fletcher cox was all smiles to report for camp and why not with that millions contract in his pocket. And someone that eluded the cameras but has reported. Linebacker nigel bradam, after being arrested for an argument over a beach umbrella. People get in trouble around the league and some coaches have a plan to deal with that. And hopefully it doesnt become a distraction. We are not alone with guys that have off field issues and not the first year that eagles have stuff like this. Unfortunately this is something that happens from time to time. And im not excusing that. And head coach peterson had to deal with the allegations about agholor last month. And look closely, what is that thing on rookie safety boyd countis, its a camera. Peterson experiencing with new technology to help players learn in the film room. Its for coaching purposes to see where my eyes were. To study defenses and study tape. The thing is too with technology if it helps you win Football Games im all for it. What if you have a conversation with a teammate . Its all visual not audio. Are you sure about that . Im not sure. The phillies sought scored 161, they went in like a lion and out like a lamb. How about some basketball . Harlem globe trotters style. This is a shot you have to see to believe. That is bull bullard. There he goes 110 feet in the air and the hoop way down there he pulls the cord and begins at a peak speed of 60 Miles Per Hour and he did not throw up but he did throw up a pretty awesome shop. That should be worth more than 3 points, they are in wildwood for four games starting tonight. That is why they are the globetrotters. Can i say, the roller coasters, you could not pay me enough. Not anymore thank you. Lets go back live to the Wells Fargo Center and dnc and Monica Malpass is standing by with a special guest. Welcome back to the Democratic National convention and philadelphia is in the spotlight playing host to politics, delegates and families and celebrities and media from around the world and our own abc news anchor, david muir. Good to be here. You were in ohio for the Republican Convention and now the dnc. The tone was not what they hoped for to begin, do you think that is shifted now and they are fully in unification gear. Did you feel it that first night. There was tension on its floor and the moment that Michelle Obama took the stage you sensed a real temperature change in the room. When people look back if there was a bounce, Michelle Obama they will give credit to her for the speech. They did the role call and allowed Bernie Sanders to hear the vote for their candidate that was cathartic and the speeches last night. Bill clinton, former president , what history we witnessed and the way i was looking at it was, can you imagine being Hillary Clinton in chappaqua, new york, and fighting and losing for [ and then campaigning for him and now the tables turned for her, people are standing up there making the case for her, a different situation for her. Pollsters are concerned within the dnc and outside of it, that both she and donald trump have high negatives. Both dont trust either one of them after watching them in the public eye. But the question is how to build trust. And do you president obama and Vice President , joe biden will try to build on it. President obama and the relationship between them is a legitimate one that they have build. They were adversary, they were fiercely competitive eight years ago, they both wanted to make history and barack obama secured the nomination and he asked her to be secretary of state and she said yes and they worked side by side and there is a respect and friendship born from that time. And i believe what he says web he fights for Hillary Clinton. He is the president and you would not expect that he plays the role of sort of attack dog. He has been the most forceful voice in this campaign when it comes to donald trump. He will not hold back tonight. Yes. When we come to philadelphia, because action news reigns here in philadelphia, the viewers always come up to us and say the channel 6 guy and i am proud to hear it. We are glad to hear it. Well watch you later tonight. World news will have more on the convention as well later in the week and can you see david murat 6 month after action news at 6 00. Fios is not cable. Were wired differently. So we wired the wagners house with 100 meg internet. Which means that in the time it takes mr. Wagner to pour a 20 oz. Cup of coffee, tommy can download 30 songs, and jan can upload 120 photos. 12 seconds. Thats the power of fiber optics. And right now you can get 100 meg internet with equal upload and dowloads speeds, tv and phone for just 69. 99 per month online. Cable cant offer Internet Speeds this fast at a price this good. Only fios can. male offscreen announcer whats it feel like to win the mustang instant game, with top prizes of a hundred grand or a new ford mustang . woman oh my goodness. Woo male offscreen announcer with instant games from the pennsylvania lottery, the instant you play could be the instant you win. Keep on scratchin. This looks good here. A happy ending here our own cecily tynan released ridley the owl back in the woods, you may remember ridley, cecily found ridley back in may and found her some help and the good people at the Wildlife Center nursed her to good shape and cecily fought back tears and they said that ridley was ready to take flight. She did so at the arboretum in delaware county. I did get emotional. And you are making fun of me. I posted that video on my Facebook Page, it was when i was out and about people would ask me about the weather and now people say how is the owl . Well ridley is doing great. Lets move out on to the weather. Im an animal lover. Making fun of me. Showing that we have rain free conditions out there and nothing to cool us off now, another hot one 93 degrees, the current index in philadelphia. 96 in wilmington and the sixth day of the heat wave, well do it again tomorrow and then things will be changing, satellite 6 along with action radar showing we have a boundary to the south, and this really separates the moderate humidity in philadelphia from the higher dew points along the coast and across virginia and what this will do is move up to the north, and this brings increased humidity tonight and partly cloudy skies and 66 in the suburbs and 76 for center city and brings us unsettled weather not just tomorrow but into the weekend, waves of low pressure along the jet stream than brings us storms with the potential for heavy downpours, future tracker 6 showing 2 00 tomorrow afternoon some storms are firing up and lasting into the evening commute and thursday night a little bit of a lull and then reloads as we head through the morning on friday and a lot of these thunderstorms will be shifting to the north and any of these storms could contain a quick heavy downpour this is what to expect, rounds of heavy thunderstorms, tomorrow afternoon into friday afternoon, and a quick 1 to 2 inches with the air mass saturated. There are concerns of flash flooding and Flash Flood Watches are posted and heavy winds south of philadelphia where we have a low level jet and the highest instability. If are down the shore, the ocean temperature is 73 degrees and keep your eye to the sky and listen, when you hear thunder get off the beach. If you hear thunder its close enough where you can be hit by lightning. New jersey beaches 84 and delaware beaches 85 and before the storm clouds bubble up the uv index will be high. The exclusive accuweather sevenday forecast tomorrow is day seven of our heat wave, 93 degrees and the heat index up to 97 and afternoon thunderstorms, friday looking unsettled and the first half of the day. The temperatures in the mid80s, the heat wave is over and still humid. On saturday, warm and humid and a possibility of an isolated thunderstorm, and more widespread showers and thunderstorms return on sunday, 84 degrees and monday clouds mixing with sun and tuesday 88 and wednesday it gets hot again, the return of the 90s. With a good amount of sunshine, so one more day tomorrow and then the heat wave will officially go out with a bang with active thunderstorms. Thank you cecily.
