This started at 3 15 in the east village section of manhattan some kind of explosion happened in the basement of a japanese restaurant and five to ten minutes later the front facade and to apartment floors next door collapsed and ten minutes after that, both buildings erupted into flames. There were some Good Samaritans helping them and a woman trapped on her fire escape and they helped her get down and one guy after helping her ran off and it was starting to smoke and checking each apartment and the cops showed up and it started smoking heavily and flames ultimately. There are more than 100 firefighters on the scene and they are trying to keep the flames at bay and this is still a search and rescue operation witnesses say they smelled natural gas in the air while this was happening.
