Blame falling squarely on the secret service. Abcs Pierre Thomas has the details. Reporter the newly released review of the infamous fence jumper is damning. It lays out a comedy of errors, including, quote, performance, organizational and technical failures. Alarms didnt work, radios failed. Officers were out of position as the intruder jumped the fence and ran more than 70 yards before walking through an unlocked door into the white house. Receiving particular criticism an officer with an attack dog. He was on his personal cell phone in his van talking without his radio earpiece in his ear. He was also without a backup radio which he left in his locker. It all contributed to a slow response. In general, the report found that no officer was in a position to catch the fence jumper only minutes after the president had left the white house with his daughters. Even a female guard inside the white house was caught by surprise. Overpowered as Omar Gonzalez made his way deep inside. I just spoke to an Administration Official who said the review is harsh because the secret Service Performance was, quote, unacceptable. Failing on every level. Pierre thomas, abc news, washington. Defense secretary chuck hagel announcing some big changes to the Nuclear Weapons programs. Those changes include the investment of up to 10 billion to upgrade the programs outdated equipment. Hagel will also name new leadership and address sagging morale. It follows a series of embarrassing incidents which led to several top to bottom reviews of procedures. The exceo who oversaw one of the worst mining disasters is facing dozens of years behind bars. Former Massey Energy ceo Don Blankenship was indicted. Those violations related to the 2010 blast in virginia. If convicted, blankenship faces up to 31 years in prison. People of ferguson, missouri, are nervously awaiting a grand jurys decision. Theyve heard from a forensic pathologist hired by the family of shooting victim michael brown, a sign the proceedings may be winding up. The familys attorneys are asking for calm once a grand jury announces whether to indict the white Police Officer who shot brown. Many ferguson businesses arent taking any chances.
