The president believes its important to strike while the iron is hot here. Reporter secretary of state john kerry met with Foreign Ministers in paris working to build support for a fight against the extremist group. The Administration Says that several arab nations have offered to launch air strikes against isis. But its unclear what an International Coalition will look like and who would do what. One nation not getting on board, iran. The Supreme Leader there said his government will not join a u. S. Led effort against isis. Warning the u. S. Could face the same problems it did in iraq over the past ten years. I think it was always unlikely that iran would become a fully fledged member of the coalition. Reporter congress may act this week on president obamas plan to support moderate Syrian Rebels fighting isis. Many republicans are backing the white house. Reporter hurricane odile barreled into Cabo San Lucas with winds up to 125 miles per hour. Life threatening wind and rain. Many american tourists were stranded. Mandy meyer and her husband rode out the storm in their los cabos hotel. Car completely flupd over on its side. Cars looked like they were probably bumper cars during the worst of this storchl. Reporter she showed us the destruction left in odiles wake. Yesterday this was full of people watching nfl games before the storm hit. Reporter even the tops of palm trees were shredded. Literally just stripped of all their leaves. Reporter rick is on his honeymoon. He and his wife spent the night with hundreds of other guests in a shelter at the resort. Wasnt the greatest way to spender last night of our honeymoon. You could hear the wind roaring, stuff knocking into the doors. Reporter odile is the strongest hstrong est hurricane on record to hit baja. Emergency shelters were set up to hold up to 30,000 people. Residents returning to their homes in Cabo San Lucas found little left. When we arrived, everything was destroyed, this woman said. Power lines and poles litter the streets. Roofs torn off houses. Many homes completely flattened. And though the storm has quickly moved forth, cleanup and rebuilding the baja will take a long, long time. Odile will continue to weaken overnight but the moisture will stream northward into the desert southwest. A similar path to hurricane norbert a week and a half ago. Those areas wul likely see some flash flooding. This year so far, new mexico and arizona have seen bigger impacts from hurricanes than florida and the carolinas. Rob marciano, abc news, new york. A little north of there, a dozen major wildfires are burning across california. Its driven thousands of people from their homes. The latest fire erupted yesterday in the tiny northern town of weed near mt. Shasta. It quickly destroyed or damaged 100 homes and burned a church to the ground. Powerful winds fanned those flames forcing the evacuation of at least two schools and shut down the main freeway between california and oregon. Farther south, dozens of homes were derureduced to ashes near yosemite. I screamed jesus help me because it was pretty scary. And the smoke was pretty bad. It was the heat. That fire has now forced about 900 people from their homes and it is now only about 35 contained. Steep ter ran, tripledigit threat of the heat. Its incredible what they are up against these firefighters. But 800 of them trying to put this out. The intensity because of these flames. They are sparking some of these spot fires almost a half mile ahead of the main blaze so, you arent just dealing with the main concern on this thing but youre also dealing with the wind, possibly spark something other things along the way. The u. S. Military has apparently taken its first step in its expanded fight against isis terrorists. U. S. Officials say air strikes like these requested by iraqi forces targeted enemy fighters south of baghdad. Previous air strikes protected only u. S. Interests and personnel. These were in direct support of Iraqi Forces Fighting isis. After brutally killing three hostages, isis terrorists have identified their next victim. Heres abcs brian ross. Reporter isis has already selected its next victim, 47yearold british aid worker alan henning. Current and former officials said it will be very difficult to stop them. We have neither the intelligence nor the access to these hostages to be able to rescue them. An attorney for vikings Adrian Peterson issued a statement responding to a report from a tv station in houston. That report claimed petersson allegedly injured a second son of his while disciplining him last june. Petersons attorney calls that, quote, simply not true. Police say 18yearold hannah Elizabeth Graham disappeared during a night of partying. Shed been drinking quite a bit. Police released these images of the uva sophomore, 511 with light brown hair. She was wearing a crop top with black pants. Early saturday morning she texted friends. One text message said, im lost in the area of 14th and wertland, which is the area she was in. Also an area shes very familiar with. Reporter but after 1 00 a. M. , silence. Her phone either dead or switched off. Some 39 hours later, she was reported missing. Its frightening. The Victims Compensation expert, kenneth feinberg, has offered settlements of at least 1 million to that many families. But that number is almost certain to rise. Feinberg still has more applications to sift through and the filing deadline is at the end of the year. Doctors in many u. S. Hospitals are overprescribing antibiotics. A study finds patients are given several antibiotics in the hopes that one will work and kept on the medication for too long.
