We will look at the big picture on double scan live radar this storm has reached its max potential and beginning to weaken and move away from the shore. No longer with around this low do we have moisture coming off the the atlantic. You can see everything is coming in from now the north north east, and pushing down, as that low, moves away but this created, all the way from cape cod to long island. And down into washington and baltimore. In fact, in parts of the northern areas, of western virginia and western maryland between 36 and 40 inches of snow, with this snowstorm. They took biggest hit and even here we are seeing areas over 2 feet, far to the north and west of philadelphia. As we look closer on double scan live radar we are seeing that band of purple, pink, moves to the south of glassboro, elmer, salem where it was really light through most of the afternoon. That is that intense ban moving from the north to the south. You can see dryer air functioning in and bringing it in from trenton and that i95 corridor. Off to the north and west in the the lehigh valley, it is starting to break up, as well, in allentown and we will start to see this trend as we will get these holes in the radar as this storm is weakening and really exhaust continuing itself and beginning to push off to the east. So we will take a look at the totals. In philadelphia 17. 7 inches so far with this storm. Allentown over 20 inches of snow. Phoenixville 2 feet. Mount holly, 17 inches. Newark right around a foot of snow. The as we time this as it exits, northwestern suburbs, and in the next couple hours through 9 00 oclock i95, between 9 00 and midnight and eastern, new jersey between midnight and 3 00 a. M. We will see that last few flakes, fall. A as we go to meteorologist cecily tynan. Snow is one aspect of it but blizzard like conditions because of those strong wind. That is right, we have snow but we have the wind, we have coastal flooding and a peak wind gusts this morning, Hurricane Force winds. Dewey beach, reporting a peak wind gust of 75 miles per hour, bayville 72, tuckerton, 68mile an hour winds. Ocean city, 63. And fortecue high received 55 miles an hour wind gusts and creating a lot of scenes like this. Reporter that is right, jim. Hates been a town square when real town square is shut down because of this blizzard and this blizzard has been relentless for most of the day. The it began to taper down just over an hour ago. And when you have sidewalks, that resembled trenches like this one here, you know that you have had one heck of a blizzard. Driving around the the streets of west chester today was like driving in the frozen tundra, all of the businesses except for a couple here and there were shut down. The driving, absolutely tricky if not treacherous. Really bad. If you do not have to come out, do not come out. Im going back home. I have fourwheel drive only, no cars, forget about it. Reporter thinks 400 block of east bernard. We have 15 or 20 cars to that have have been plowed in. And at the rate were going right now, it will be sometime, before these cars will be able to get out of here. What have you been plowing. We are plowing parking lots, and weve owe. Reporter no matter what you do it just keeps coming down. It doesnt stop, relentless. Reporter now this, this is way to get around. I guess you have no problem getting around in that thing. No, but it is scary. Reporter you are driving in the hummer. I know, it is still scary. Reporter how are the roads out there. Theyre not good. We should not be out on these roads. Now, we didnt see anyone having a snowball, Football Game out here. We did witness a snowball fight. That was a lot of fun with one family from doylestown, but everybody wants to know about the conditions, right now. Within the the the last few minutes the snow and the wind have picked backup, as you can see on main street right now, there are no cars out here, as you you look down towards the center and town of doylestown, where the the courthouse is, and the shops, only a cvs, a few bars and restaurants are opened, of course, the the wawa is opened on main street, always. It has been a Meeting Point just as dann cuellar just talked about. Wawa has been a Meeting Point right now for a lot of people that come through. Only people that have been on the roads, have been, plows. Medical personnel, and people that are vital took out here. If you dont have to come out, please dont. Our action news van even got stuck briefly trying to get in the wawa parking lot. We have seen plows slip out here. If you dont have to come out here, please dont. The it is still dangerous conditions. The roads are not great, making their way up here on the turnpike and through 611 we saw one car spin out. This storm as we have been telling you is causing major problems at the jersey shore. A stranded resort towns including margate, temporarily isolated by flood waters this morning when the tides came in. The the water quickly receded but the evening high tides is now just about 20 minutes away, 22 minutes away and it is a major concern. Governor Chris Christie criticized communities today for blocking beach replenishment programs. On ortly beach is being pounded. We put a lot of men up there at the request of the mayor of tomorrows river but that sand has already washed away f we had to do the dune project moving and close to completion in that area those people on the beach would not be suffering the damage and the loss they are today. New jersey correspondent Nora Muchanic in ocean city where flooding, is a problem for residents today. Reporter west avenue and tenth street right now look the at what we are looking the at. The water is still flowing and it even got a current. It is enough that some people have had it and decided to evacuate and go to the mainland. It is freezing and there is water every where. We will go more inland. Reporter today the city is using high military trucks get through what the tore pick up essential workers. They are about the only thing that can get safely through the high water, when you see what some of these trucks and minivans are going through to try to struggle through here, it doesnt look like it is really safe. We cannot get to our primary residents. It is totally under, not the house under water but not the road. I have never seen it this bad. When sandy, we were the at higher end it was flooded but not like this with the ice and water so far up. It looks like a lake on west. It does, doesnt it. Like a river. It is moving, white caps. Reporter over on the ocean side look at the what is happening here huge waves have been pounding the shore all day long cause something considerable beach erosion. There was a big beach replenishment project on this beach front here and now water at high tide has washed up to the dunes. Good thing they were there if we didnt have beach replenishment we would have lost dunes by how high it is. The dunes are going to do exactly what they intended to do, stop the the ocean. Reporter hope is a all of this water would recede before the next high tides. We are not sure fit will happen but certainly with the look of things here, ocean city will continue to be under water for the at least the rest of the day. In ocean city, im Nora Muchanic for channel six action news. And live on city avenue in philadelphia, it is meteorologist melissa magee. Melissa, we have been watching all day, one car after another get stuck trying to make that turn from city avenue on to monument road. What is the situation right now. Well, jim, everyone is learning their lesson. They are no longer turning on to monument road. In fact things are desolate on city avenue, as well. But we will show you video that we shot earlier today. We have been seeing the the plows as well do their work, plow after plow move across city avenue and then not so much removing snow from the roads, it is that gusty wind, throwing the the snow and drifting that snow back on to the highways. We caught up with two people, one was on a snow adventure with his buddies, and also a snowplowman who had varying thoughts on the snow, lets take a listen. There are areas that are not plowed yet but it is still snowing. Gotcha. It is just really slow. We had a snowdrift earlier for probably about 4foot high snow drift. One of our plow guys got stuck and we had to pull them out. So that was jim lucky, just talking about the conditions, that was sean nagy talking about the conditions. Pretty quiet on city avenue. This is why we keep saying if you must head out which again we do not recommend have that cell phone charged, have have a shovel in the trunk, take along an extra blanket the as well. This poor guy has been stuck here for ban hour and he is spinning and trying and not getting anywhere. Little will further up, this is 202 by chose ter brook north bound side, a tractor trailer here off to the side. Even these huge reek also have a hard time getting traction on these completely snow covered roadway. And sometimes we say as long as you stick with the majors, you will bee kay. That has not been the case today because they have been completely snow covered. We will look at a ram that connects two major major the schuylkill eastbound and blue route southbound this ramp has been blocked for a while this poor person has been stuck here for hours, just spinning. You can see all of the track is here but it is a icy mess, still snow covered as well. Lets look live in montgomeryville, Montgomery County by Montgomery Mall a lock 309 at dekalb pike it too is completely snow covered and as the night the progresses even after they plow we expect more drifting. You really do not want to head out any time tonight, jim . Wise advise, thanks, matt. A couple in Center City Philadelphia did not let the the snow ruin their special day. He said more than 260 National Guard members are transporting doctors and nurse toes where they need to go. He also said dell dot has more than 300 pieces of plowing equipment outside on the roads. Significant additional snow and wind is expected, which means the dell dot plows will continue to to the main roads as they take sometime before they get to the secondary roads. Markell does urge all delaware resident to stay off of the roads, so that the plows will have a clear path. Action News Reporter Trish Hartman was on naamans road in claymont earlier today and this is what she found. Reporter the the snow has been on and off here all day here in claymont, delaware but one thing that has been consistent has been the wind. The it has been brutal. The that is one thing everyone has been complaining about everybody who stops by here along naamans road right off of i95 at the wawa. The the wind really, makes it feel so much colder. We have been, battling wind gusts between ten and 15 miles an hour. Heres my meter i have been using all day. Really it makes it whip the snow around and hits you in the face. We have the action news, yardstick here, wind is really blowing the snow around. It depend where you measure. Here we have, about 9 inches, and then, up here, we can see the the grass, as we a approach the road, so the wind really is blowing the snow all over the place. The roads are plowed right now, the plows have been coming through all day. Dell dot says they have 330 plows, on the road, statewide, working on these primary roads but the wind just keeps blowing the the snow, back on to the road. So that is their biggest challenge with this storm. Then they will get the the soakedry road later, a lot of the neighborhood an inside streets are still snow covered, so it is going to be a while. They will ask for your patients and hunker down, stay inside and dont venture outside on the roads if you dont have to. Reporting from claymont delaware, Trish Hartman for channel six action news. They are battling, heavy, blowing snow so like other communities they are urging everybody to stay home so crews can get to open roads and get them through. Reading, allentown mount pocono, there is dry air puncturing into the western side of the storm here, also another area of dry era long i95 and we still have that hit of some pink. Although it is really shrinking here, glassboro to elmer moving away from philadelphia, heading in to southern new jersey. This area and also, the state of delaware, it is pretty quite it this afternoon. A lot of dry air that was push in with this storm, so now that it is exiting, all of the snow that was north and west is wrapping back in and moving toward the coast. So, through can see malaga about to get hit by strong wind and reduced visibility. That includes buena and eventually toward cape may county. As we take a look at the the stats, with this, where does it rank. For philadelphia specifically. Right now, and this was at early this afternoon, 17. 7 inches at Philadelphia International airport. Making it the ninth largest snowstorm, for philadelphia. It should move up a little bit in the ranks. But when you compare it to the blizzard of 196, were far off of that 30. 7 inches of snow but places likely high valley, it could be the number one snowstorm for them. 36 miles an hour wind gusts, still in philadelphia same for wilmington. Thirtyeight in dover. Even at the shore wind near 40. That is still a concern because were about a half an hure or so, or, no were four minutes away, time is going quickly here this afternoon, for additional coastal flooding with the next round of high tide. Then there is a third round at 7 00 oclock tomorrow morning. Wind will be subsiding from about 60 miles an hour now down to 35 miles an hour tomorrow afternoon with significant beach erosion, even after this storm departs. Satellite and radar, new england getting hit hard, even new york city picking up close to 2 feet of snow with this storm but notice how the dryer air really starts to take shape in west virginia. Future tracker at 10 00 oclock tonight the snow is ending in philadelphia working in to southern new jersey. When the snow end, there is a little bit of cloud cover but notice how quickly those clouds even move on out by 2 00 in the morning even off the the coast and that sunshine is back first thing tomorrow morning. The it sticks around tomorrow afternoon with those temperatures right around freezing, if not going above and in a few location was a much lighter wind out of the northwest, eight to 16miles an hour so very comfortable compared to today to get the kids out to enjoy the snow.
