The South Carolina chamber of commerce unveiled their 2016 comprehensive agenda. The chamber is letting us know which items they want the General Assembly to focus on the next couple of months. Jennifer is live at the statehouse. Jennifer. The chamber is focusing on three key items here at the statehouse today which they say are critically important in changing the way we do business here in South Carolina. Its very important that we help develop a workforce thats ready for the next century. Chamber of commerce president ted pitts lying out the General Assembly take action on in 2016. On the list, the chamber highlights business licensing reform, infrastructure and workforce development. South carolina needs a sustainable and highly educated workforce of technicians, engineers, self professionals and entrepreneurs to be competitive in the 21st century economy. Al reid says South Carolina is in position for a growing economy and more jobs available. The problem lies in finding qualified workers. Were very concerned about finding those individuals in the time frame that we have that are ready and willing to come in and work and fill the needs that we have. The chamber is also asking the General Assembly to tackle the longdebated issue of the states roads and bridges. If we dont get the main thoroughfares, were going to have big answers to come up with when these large manufacturers are setting up shop and trucks cant move up and down i26, i95, i77, i20 and all those that go with it. Legislature to reform the department of transportation and find a solution to fund the roads. We would like to see a plan that has a recurring sustainable, diversified revenue stream of at least 600 million to go to our roads and bridges. And as for the third item on the list, business license reform, the chamber of commerce is hopeful that the General Assembly can come up with a more streamlined approach. The victims name has not yet been released. Richland county deputies are looking for three people they say robbed a belk at gunpoint. Investigators say just at 7 00 last night, four suspects took more than 700 in merchandise from the Department Stores place. Deputies say the Stores Security officer was able to catch one of the suspects. Has joined the hunt for a woman wanted in a string of Jewelry Store robberies across the southeast. Investigators say the woman seen in this surveillance image has hit the stores in georgia, north carolina, florida and bluffton, South Carolina. Authorities say in each case, she allegedly targeted outlet stores, tied up salespeople in back rooms at gunpoint and stole items while wearing gloves to prevent fingerprints. Its a lesson we can all learn from, one of giving back and proving youre never too young to step up to the plate when the need is there. The efforts are so appreciated. The flood stories are still fresh in their young minds. We just looked out the window and the firefighters were trying to come but they were saving other people. And then at the last minute, my moms friend came and opened the door and all the water splashed out and we got out. Tyler learned an adult lesson at a very young age. Imagine his surprise when students from another elementary school, one the all the way in to restock shelves for students at pine grove elementary, right here in columbia, all sorts of items. Noodles, snacks, applesauce, fruit cups, different things. Its all part of river gate elementary snack pack program. Leaders at the Charlotte School had a great idea. Teach the students hat both schools a valuable lesson and help out at the same time. In men cases, when we have students dont lack, a sense of entitlement can occur. So we always try to instill in our students the importance of giving back. 17 students from river gates 4th and 5th grade classes collected the goods and learned every step of the way. It was amazing, getting to help people who are less fortunate than us. It was a little hard work to collect all the items. Our goal was to collect 100 plus items per class. But it was worth it. Yes. No argument from tyler who would agree it was well worth it. I think its good that theyre doing that and i hope they keep doing that in the future, if Something Like that happens again. Theres the record 10. So were nowhere close to the record. It could get a lot closer. Ill tell you that. If you dont like the cold, were warming as we go the next couple of days. Tomorrow warmer, friday warmer. By the time we get to the weekend well have showers. Looks like theyll be focused mainly saturday. If you have plans, saturday will be the day, the wetter of the two. Here are the temperatures. This is a lot warmer than we were yesterday. The other thing to notice here is the humidity. One of the issues when you talk about a cold night, it needs to be dry because what happens in that case is all the heat escapes readily out into space. If theres humidity in the air, or clouds, that traps the heat that goes out. Tonight the humidity is a lot higher than it was last night in terms of the air. I showed you a second ago, the high clouds, ill show them to you here, there they are, plenty of high clouds coming in. That traps the heat so it doesnt get so cold. We wont be as near as cold as last night. On balance 10 to 12 degrees warmer than last night for lows. Ill tell you the next shot at rain, thats this guy over here, dallas, san antonio, its making some noise here. By the time it arrives to us it will be friday at which point it will be a lot weaker. So well probably get a shower or two out of this thing on friday but nothing significant. The more substantial rain, that gets in here probably late saturday, saturday night. Plan on some rain then and clearing out for the certainly second half of your sunday. So lets give you a peek at the forecast here in terms of the temperatures. Theres the warm air over towards dallas. You see the green in there. What i want to show you, as we go through time into tomorrow morning, by the time we go through tomorrow afternoon, what youll notice is we start to see the warm air start to spill in columbia. We take you to friday afternoon, watch what happens. More of it is pushing farther to the north. Thats where were headed not only friday, saturday but into sunday as well. Well say goodbye to the chilly 50s back into the 60s. Here we go overnight. Into the 30s with passing clouds. A look at tomorrow, mid50s r us. Not as windy. A little bit out of the northnortheast.
