Romona still ahead we try to get to the bottom of a fence problem at a local suburb. Toyota in kent this is cleveland 19 news. Mark so a homeowner in North Olmsted contacted us looking for a little help. Romona he says he built a fence for safety reasons, but the city says he has to tear it down why . We sent harry boomer to get some answers in their fence dispute. When i was building it i wasnt aware of city codes against it. Reporter the city of olmsted sent him this letter telling him to tear down the fence in his front yard. He says he tried to reason with the city. We have had a few incidents. Three in the past six months where cars came off the road and entered our road and i guess we are kind of worried about maybe one going through the house or when we are out there working maybe striking us. Reporter thats one reason zimmerman says he built the fence. Here is another reason. It is a bit more vague. We have a doctors note person with a medical disability living here. And having the fence up, it really helps him with that condition. Reporter caleb wouldnt tell North Olmsted city hall nor us about who has the medical condition or what it is. Normally it is neighbors complaining and not this time. They signed off on it. If they want me to go to city hall i will vote for him to keep it. It doesnt bother me whatsoever. We have a code limiting front yard fencing to 30 inches. We built it two and a half feet tall. The fence is five feet on top of that. As it stands now it would come down because of city code. And the board reviewed it and the board determined not to sufficiently warrant a variance. Zimmerman says it cost 2,000 to build it and will cost 1,000 to tear it down. He has a right to appeal it in city court. Cleveland 19. Notice harry was wearing his blazer and didnt need an overcoat out there. Jeff now you need a jacket and temperatures dropping in the 40s. Talented acquisition, the name of the game which is why signing day means so much for College Coaches in various sports and kids they have been courting for so long. The pressure is off and everyone can exhale. I would say it is stressful just because it is a hard decision and a lot of schools football side of things and academic side and they are comparable and it is tough to separate some of them. Thank you very much for joining us at 6 00. A Dominic Mancuso editorial is coming up next. Romona we hope to see you back here at 11 00. Have a good evening. Now this is a cleveland 19 news editorial. Taxation without it is the phrase that created our country. Our forefathers revolted against paying taxes to a government for which they had no vote. Now 240 years later, it is time to revote against the mayors idea to raise clevelands Municipal Income tax from 2 to 2. 5 . 25 more dollars out of the wages of people working in cleveland. According to the Mayors Office about 87 of the tax money paid comes from suburbanites who dont even get to vote on it. It doesnt get any more unamerican than that. The mayor makes some reasonable arguments why the city needs some money. 18 million in lost property tax. More than 111 million lost in state tax cuts since 2010. 11 million to implement the doj decree to improve our police department. But the mayor has plenty of responsibility for these budget problems. The people who let the police both received promotions and raises on their sixfigure salaries. Our chief investigator carl monday has documented waste in trash collection, police and city council lunches and dinners. And the biggest problem, new city worker contracts with numerous city unions that pay almost 43 million more in retro pay and benefits through 2016. Who negotiated these deals . Increasing the city income tax is short sighted. How long will the citys current renaissance last if we make businesses and their employees pay a premium to be in cleveland . It is unfair and counterproductive. If the mayor wants to fight for our fair share of state money, were on board ohio lets us vote. We would vote no on the city income tax increase. That is, if we had a vote. 216 6643990 and let him know what you think. Im Dominic Mancuso and thats how we see it. We encourage your response to this editorial
