Ted cruz 28 . Donald trump 24 . Marco rubio coming in at 23 . And ben carson, interestingly, coming in at 9 . There was some talk, which is kind of inside baseball, i suppose, that things were going awry with ben carson, that he had left, no one knew what this meant, and then their campaign put out some sort of statement earlier in the evening saying that he had run out of fresh clothes and had to go back to your state, bob, to get some new clothes. As far as we know, he remains in the race. Mike huckabee has dropped out of the race tonight, along with Martin Omalley on the democratic side. The former maryland governor. And then of course on the democratic side, weve got a neck and neck race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders of less than one percentage point separating those two candidates, bob. Bob joel, always good to talk with you, thank you so much, we appreciate that. Lets break some of this down mark mills and carl jackson. Is this ted cruz victory or a donald trump failure here . Its a ted cruz victory, but i would be very concerned if i was Donald Trumps campaign. Hes come across, we all know, hes the big guy, hes the big elephant in the room, hes the big winner. Will this hurt his per seasona . I believe it will . With rubio coming up so strong, nearly tying him at second, it will give rubio more momentum in New Hampshire and probably take donald trump down a notch. Bob does this play into at all because he missed the debate or is this because ted cruz plays well with evangelicals . Maybe both. Heres the thing about the entrance polls tonight. Networks did entrance polling, asking people when they went into the caucus what they thought. Rubio did incredibly well among voters who decided at the last minute. Who held off, they were undecided until they walked in. He won the question of elect act, which was interesting, over cruz and trump. Momentum. Did trump lose it . Did cruz do better . Cruz had a terrific ground game. It could be that the trump momentum stalled over the weekend when he and when he refused to appear at the fox news debate last week. But i think the story i agree with carl. The story tonight is rubio, and going forward. Certainly i think were all interested to see how donald trump spins this, and so were going to play some sound from him. Also from marco rubio, his reaction tonight. We finished second. And i want to tell you something. Im just honored. Im really honored. And i want to congratulate ted and i want to couldnt great congratulate all of the incredible candidates, including Mike Huckabee, who has become a really great friend of mine. He may win tonight, Bernie Sanders. He may do well. Hes got doubledigit leads in New Hampshire. But what happens after that . Does he have the game to continue on even south of the Mason Dixon Line . Thats the big question. I thought sanders had to win convincingly tonight. He clearly is not going to do that, even if he wins. Hell do well in New Hampshire, its a neighboring state, like a but will he do well when the southern primaries start occurring in early march . And florida on march 15th. Doesof the Mason Dixon Line, in states that are not as liberal as iowa is for democratic voters . Does he play south of the Mason Dixon Line in other, more moderate democratic states. Im not sure he does. Those are the problems that Bernie Sanders may be facing. What about Hillary Clinton . Emails coming back to haunt her, could that be real trouble for her . This is a win for Hillary Clinton. Margin. I thought Bernie Sanders would spank her. Basically, based upon the new college kids coming in to vote, they were coming in in high numbers, and i was, okay, the high numbers are showing up, the voters are showing up in iowa, the College Students are showing up in iowa for Bernie Sanders. Hillary clinton is probably going to lose and shes probably the fact that she isnt going to lose did he size i havely, i think it speaks volumes. All those emails, and the scandal, shes been the not just donald trump, quite frankly. In all of her surprises are coming out now. Great to have you here. Weve seen some surprises, i suppose, with ted cruz and weve seen some campaigns falling by the wayside tonight. Youve got Mike Huckabee out of the republican party, no surprise there. Youve got Martin Omalley out in the democratic party. No surprise there. Both fareed poorly. I suspect there will be other campaigns suspended by the time the morning is through. But the story of the night beyond ted cruzs win, it has to be marco rubio. He exceeded expectations. Not necessarily, especially in the republican party, who finishes first. Trump meanwhile does not meet expectations. Maybe hes rethinking that decision to skip out of the debate. In speaking to a lot of people here in iowa, they were turned off by the fact that he wasnt there, in a close race, that may have made a difference. Four points, we dont know, but nonetheless this is a disappointing night for trump. A very, very good night for marco rubio. Money will begin pouring his way from some of the suspended campaigns and the other contains as well. On the democratic race,. 2 of 1 heading into 11 00 with 10 yet to go. What were seeing in the fox Election Center at the decision desk, the precincts that have not yet reported have not yet reported because it was a big surge in new caucus goers attending so it takes more time to process. And with this, new voters seem to favor, according to the entrance polls, Bernie Sanders, on the conversation we were just having, it does suggest that sanders has a chance to catch and overtake clinton, but the bottom line, theyre statistically tied. Historically, does iowa, wherever they lean, are they a good indicator of who comes out as the eventual nominee . Not always. Republican party. You look at rick santorum, he won four years ago, didnt work so well for him. Mike huckabee, who won in 2008, it didnt go well for him. But its important because even though it doesnt necessarily pick the winner, the polls in the states are not static, they will shift and move based on what comes out of iowa and New Hampshire. So thats why this race is so important. You cant measure it just in the raw numbers that come in on caucus night. In the democratic race, on the other hand, not always, but ever since jimmy carter came along and launched iowa on the map in 1976, a lot of the democratic nominees did in fact win the state of iowa. Campaign trail. We appreciate it. Our other big story were county teachers mourning the loss of one of their colleagues, sandra cook and another man found dead just this morning. The bodies discovered at home at home in melbourne. Valerie boey has the latests. Reporter many are mourning the death of a popular math teacher here at rockledge high. Investigators are calling it a murder suicide. Melbourne police say 54yearold sandra cook and the body of a man were found dead in a home this morning. Investigators say no one else is believed to be involved in the deaths. According to the pressed school district, cook taught math and saved as the gifted coordinator at rockledge high. Student Raymond Bryant says the news was devastating. At first, my buddy, he told me something happened, and i was like, no, youre jokin, so i what was going on and everybody was crying. The School Principal says cook was a devoted teacher who inspired many. It hit me hard as well. So i began to cry and just kind of started comforting as many people as i could. Cook was a finalist for brevards teacher of the year. According to the principal, cook was a long time staff member and had been at rockledge high since 2013. A statement was released saying ms. Cook was one of the finest people to have walked the halls of our school, and she will truly be missed. She was a great teacher. She always cared about her students. She put her students first and she made sure that they was okay and that they were in a great environment to learn. Raymonds mother says shell be praying for everyone involved. As a parent, we have to prepare our kids because, as life happens, a lot of things happen. So we just have to be strong and prepare our kids. As investigators continue to look for clues as to what happened, raymond says it will be tough without his teacher. She has touched a lot of and a team of grief counselors will be here for students in the morning. And then one guy grabbed his legs and we both grabbed his arms and pulled him around. Seconds later there was no doubt, they just saved the strangers live. We heard an hiss from the car and it just exploded. The driver was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries.
