Police say the woman and one 4yearold daughter are in critical condition, her other daughter said to be in serious condition. Todays high, we already hit 66, midnight. This afternoon well be right around that mark with some typically, we top out near 41, so we have been so much warmer than normal, and todays record was 64, so this is officially the warmest christmas on record. Were at 58 in central park right now, 50 in allentown. Monticello, 39 where skies have been clear. Weve had some clouds and fog, islip to montauk about 50, but clouds are breaking up a little bit. We have sort of a dry side here, showers south and also to to the north, showers will return tonight, but today were looking out, and it will be a mainly dry christmas. Good morning and Merry Christmas. It is a beautiful morning here in midtown. Im going to step out of the picture so you can see the cathedral in all its glory after that huge restoration. You can also see this morning a lot of security outside st. Pats which is certainly reassuring to see. The first mass got underway at seven, theyre already on the second mass of the day. A steady stream of the faithful heading inside for services. Last night was the main event, Midnight Mass where Cardinal Dolan delivered his homily. Having pope francis here this fall and having pope francis inside delivering mass at st. Pats. He also talked about refugee, and he welcomed two families who were in the audience last night who were being settled with help from catholic charities, one from el salvador, the other from the irish coast. He urged all new yorkers to open their hearts to refugees. Meantime, this morning mass well underway, quite a few people inside. We spoke to some of the faithful who were here for an early mass. St. Patricks today . Its Christmas Day, and its nice to hear mass early in the morning on Christmas Day. Do. Ive been doing it back at home, so its the right thing to do when im over here as well. What are your impressions this morning . Here for a few days on unseasonably warm. The things we told the children we were going to do, cathedral. York so far . Oh, we love it. Pope francis delivering his traditional Christmas Blessing this morning in st. Peters square. He prayed to a quick end for a quick end to the suffering issued peace in a war torn apart by war, poverty and terrorist attacks. St. Peters was under tight security, the pope referred to the sites of the terror attacks. And last night the pope led a Christmas Eve mass at st. Peters basilica. He warned against what he called societys intoxication with consumerism and wealth. In bethlehem pilgrims and palestinian officials attending Midnight Mass at the church of the nativity. The church is built on the spot thats revered as the birthplace of jesus. Thousands of people also packed manger square, they came despite the recent uptick in violence across the west bank. Just this morning two suspected islamic radicals arrested for burning a Christmas Tree in a christianmajority village. Were mindful that as we celebrate, the world continues, and theres tragedy to tell you about in brooklyn where an elderly woman was struck and killed by a van. Yeah. Afternoon in the Sheepshead Bay section of brooklyn. The 77yearold woman was trying to cross the road at east 21st street when she was struck. The vans driver was a 23yearold who has been arrested and charged with failure to to yield the rightofway and failure to exercise due care. The womans identity has not yet been released. And in hicksville on long island, a woman and her two daughters were hit by a car last night. They were crossing the intersection of old country road and New Bridge Road when they were hit right around 10 p. M. Police say the woman and one 4yearold daughter are in critical condition, her other daughter is in serious condition. The driver of the car stayed at the scene and was being interviewed by police. Two churches in new jersey are targeted by vandals just as parishioners are getting ready to celebrate christmas. Somebody spray painted antichristian messages on a sign at the first press presbyterian church. Across town a church van belonging to the new life painted with similar graffiti. The pastor says hes not letting the vandals spoil the holiday. A lot of times during the holidays a lot of crazy things happen. A lot of people are, you know, in need of different things, and, you know, i was kind of taken back by it, but theres a lot more important things in life than, you know, a van. I like where his mind is, the fact that he is, you know, just keeping with the holiday. Police are investigating, but so far they havent made any arrests. This is a great story. Christmas came early for more than 100 children in need on long island. This is thanks to the Nassau County police department. One of my faith holiday traditions, teaming up with maddies toy shop yesterday to host a shopping spree. Each child got a red bag to fill and 100 to spend. Its good to see kids that really appreciate it and need it, and it puts a big smile on their face. Thats what this is all about, its about giving. Its the season of giving, and our Police Officers here in day. It is such a fantastic thing to see. This happens to be the second year that Nassau County police have treated Homeless Children to a Christmas Eve shopping spree. Look at their faces. I know. Oh, its incredible. Those red bags, can fill them with whatever you want so heavy i have that the little ones have trying to drag it. A baby found in a manger becoming a beacon of hope for people across the world. This was a story that got so much attention not just here in new york, but everywhere. Many are writing in to say they want to adopt that baby boy. Foxs lauren green has more. At Holy Child Jesus Church in queens, new york, the nativity encompasses the parishs very identity, but the church was brought an updated version of its namesake. Theres no such thing as a coincidence with god. Old, was left in the churchs manger. His single mother, who told a reporter she wasnt able to care for him, placed him here in gods hands. The manger was set, that the doors were open, that, you know, there was no one in the church at that time so she could come anonymously and drop her child. From the moment the child appeared, he began to change the lives of those around him. For handyman jose moran who found him, its a whole hearted belief in define intervention. Translator miracle in a sense, the timing that the manger was just built. It was just there for a couple hours. For this young priest, a new vision of life. The surreal moment as the nurse from the Parish School attended him. So watch her tying the umbilical cord, again, something that i have never seen. The baby left in the manger has not only transformed lyes here at Holy Child Jesus Church, but the modern Day Christmas and minds across the country and across the world. Cards, emails and donations have poured into the church, handed in hats as well. Many people also asking to adopt the infant. And the event itself has inspired a bounty of christmas sermons as priests and pastors around the country see the similarities between todays story and one more than 2,000 years ago. The humility of our savior to come as this helpless infant which would come to save the world. The baby is now in foster care. State authorities will decide who adopts him, but he already has a home in the hearts of thousands. In queens, new york, lauren green, fox news. Wad weather in bad weather in parts of the country as well as a last minute surge in shopping is to blame. They hope to give household deliveries top priority. Some express offices will be open from 91. All right, we all have that one house on the block that goes all out with the christmas lights. You kind of wonder if its a griswolds kind of thing. Do you ever wonder how much its a lot. [laughter] americans use 6. 6 billion kilowatt hours of energy every year on holiday lights, thats more energy than some developing nations use in one year. However, that 6. 6 billion kilowatt hours figure, thats percent of the United States total electricity usage. Wow. All right, well, this holiday are spending it alone, unfortunately, and they are able to they are unable to cook for themselves. At least a full, proper holiday meal. But fortunately, there are a lot of generous people who are making it their mission to help out. And this, after all, is what christmas is about. More than a thousand volunteers from this great organization, gods love we deliver, hit the streets of new york and new jersey yesterday to bring meals to those who need it most; that is, those who are going through hard times. People who are living with all sorts of illnesses, 2020 different diagnosis 200 different diagnoses, cancer, hiv, also hyper alzheimers. Reasons. It feels good to do good and help someone else. 4500 meals are being delivered for christmas. The volunteers will then continue to work to meet the needs of those relying on them after the holidays have passed. A holiday treat of the furry fourlegged variety for airport. They get to hang out and play with two dogs. One happens to be named sofie, the other is lily. Program. For one traveler the lovable canines helped calm her down. I was very angry and upset, and i started to cry, because i just wanted to see my grandparents, and its the holidays. It helps take the edge off as people are standing here and a little bit stressed after having traveled all die. I dont know about you, but seeing a puppy, a dog, and especially that one, oh, it just warms my heart. Puts me right at ease. She felt the stress going away every time that she came in contact with one of these guys. And she was able to pet her new furry friend. The dogs from paws for love are at Buffalo Niagara airport year round. All right, well, if you thought you had a long night, youve got nothing on him. He had a long and busy night delivering gifts to children all over the world, and he apparently had a little bit of help from first Lady Michelle obama. She took some time out from her vacation in hawaii to take some calls from kids who wanted to know where santa was. She was one of more than 1200 volunteers who kept track of santa using the north American Aerospace Defense Command santa tracker. Norad has been doing for 60 years. Last year they got 135,000 calls from more than 200 countries. Teresa, by the way, my aunt is coming in from ohio, and she texted me 4, 4 30, maybe 5 00, shes on her way here, and she says she spotted santa, so she wanted me to tell everyone here that santa was make his way out west. Well, that makes sense because i heard a thump in the house, maybe it was santa getting stuck in the chimney . I didnt help him out, i didnt want to oh.
