They plan to deliver their shooting of 24yearold akile dankins. This evening the organization wants to share their ideas to the Raleigh Human Relations Commission before taking them directly to city council. Raleigh city leaders had planned to talk about the use of body cams on the day of the shooting but the discussion was delayed because of the incident. A reminder, dankins was shot and killed a week anda half ago at bragg and e streets. According to the preliminary report released a week ago, investigators say there was a struggle between him and the officer dc at which timey before the twite before the shooting. He said he reached for a handgun in the suspects waistband and moved it toward the officer. That is when twitty says he fired. The officer fired again after dankins continued omove toward him. The officer involved is on administrative leave state lawmakers are being urged to conduct a study about they make any decisions concerning them. Lawmakers want to decide if video captured by a body cam can be a public record. If so what kind of policy standards need to be in place regarding their use. They also want to see if the state too mandate the use of body cams, something the sheriffs state Association Opposes saying lawmakers shouldnt tell them how to spend their money.
