A panel of judges determined race did play a role in drawing two congressional districts. Including one here in the area. Wncns lauren is in the studio to explain. The naacp is calling this ruling a win. More than a month away, and absentee ballots all ready being turned in. Some lawmakers worry this will cause chaos in the upcoming election. This is simply one victory in a huge war. In 2011, state lawmakers created these 13 districts. Five years later a panel of federal judges is striking down two congressional districts saying race played a role in drawing the lines. Its an affirmation of the claims weve made. The districts are the 12th in greensboro and the first in our area covering wilson, durham, and henderson. North carolina has created a par tide districts. In which African American and latinos have been stacked and packed into specific districts. Attorneys argue race wasnt the predominant motive for forming either district. Republican senator bob, and republican representative david lewis said this decision could do more to disinfranchise North Carolina voters than anything alleged in this case. The judges say the districts must be we drawn. The naacp does not think the General Assembly should be the responsible party for drawing districts. This is what the ncaacp would like to see. The replacement of the legislature with people who have a respect for the constitution. The judges ordered lawmakers to come up with new boundaries by february 19th. The state could seek a delay with an appeals court. North carolina primaries are set for march 15th. Maggie, back to you. Police say they caught the teens after several 911 calls reported rocks being thrown at cars on i95 near mile marker 65. All three are due in court next week. Today people lined the streets of durham for the 4th annual North Carolina mlk black History Month parade. The parade is a way to give thanks to dr. Martin luther king jr. And recognize the achievements of other great durham has a lot of historic history, as well as im an employee of the university and i wanted to bring my family out. Its a day of peace, a day of out. The theme of the parade was give a ballot, a way to shine light on Voting Rights of African Americans. The signs of summer maybe months away its never too early to think about it. You might get excited if youre watching in Cumberland County, clinton, goldsboro to see a little snow tomorrow. Itll be just rain along the coast. I dont have anything drawn north and west of the triangle. Based on the current projection of that low. Itll probably stay dry there. But heres the key, little or no accumulation. Because anything would be confined to grass. The actual surface temperature will stay above freezing. So theres no advisories, no watches, no warnings, nothing like that. But it could be exciting for a look out the window tomorrow. I95 corridor. 44 fayetteville. Nothing on the radar now. The low pressure system is moving off the coast of florida. And then it should move to the northeast. So you see the rain band is going as far in as columbia South Carolina. So if it continues to progress to the northeast. You can see right over raleigh, that will be kind of like the cut off. Were going to see rain or not. Im going to give the chance from 3 00 a. M. Through early afternoon tomorrow, temperatures will stay cold, especially through the mid afternoon hours and at least get up to 46 tomorrowment but heres whats interesting on your city by city weather, about a 1 in 3 shot youll sigh rain or a few flakes in raleigh. A slight risk in durham where itll be warmer, but its fayetteville where it looks like theres a good chance of rain, with maybe a little bit of snow flakes mixed in there. As we head toward the afternoon hours the low progresses a little bit of snow to the east. But by dinner time, skies clear for school or work on monday morning. Monday will be a mild day. 50s. And then this front comes through with some rain. And behind that front, its going to be cold and stay there for the rest of the week. We might squeeze out a slight chance of a shower or maybe even a flake of snow along the virginia border on tuesday. But for the most part itll be dryer by tuesday. Tomorrow, rain and snow southeast of the triangle. Fayetteville you could see some. Best chances goldsboro and clinton. The lower 40s there. And upper 40s and mainly dry in south hill virginia at 49 degrees. So for tomorrow, 46 degrees. After a low of 33. We will see that chance of a little bit of rain or snow in the morning. And a few bits at noon. And then by the time you get ready for the game to watch the panthers, things should be drying out. Those showers are for monday evening. And that slight risk of maybe a squeezed out shower any time during the day on tuesday. Otherwise itll be blustery. Only 42 degrees. Breezy clouds and sun. And cold on wednesday. Cold on thursday and sunday. Then on friday, lincolns birthday, 48. Next saturday a little bit of rain or snow. Very slight chance now thats very far out in the future.
