This is a program youve been doing, tell me first of all how long the museum has been running the program. Weve been doing it for 11 years now. Were in our 11th summer. We have summer sessions and reunion nights for parents and families throughout the year. This was a reaction to the student population around your museum. Tell us what was different and why you felt there was a need it is because of the communities that were around us when we started the program, we were hearing from teachers in the local districts that some of the kids that werent speaking english primarily in the home werent always necessarily ready and that there was a different idea of what was needed within the American School system and what folks coming from other countries might feel is appropriate. So we created the program and we worked with the kids to get them ready to enter the classroom and get the parents ready to be advocates. Tell us, you have spanish and french creole teachers. What do you teach . Colors, name recognition, weight and measurement, math. We definitely have a stem theres a gap in stem learning. And theres special attention im getting the parents involved. We saw one of the parents in the photos. Why do you feel thats important . Its important because of children in the schools and to help kids with home work, how to set up a space for them that is appropriate for education in the home.
