New jersey tonight. A little boy playing with a gun shoots his fouryearold brother in the head at their home in east orange. Now police want to know how that small child got his hand on a gun. News4s Michael George joins us live just down the block from where this happened. Michael . Reporter rob, as we speak, that fouryearold is in emergency surgery. Investigators believe the gun belonged to his mother, and she was at home at the time, but somehow the gun ended up in the hands of her sixyearold son. Authorities say a sixyearold playing with a gun accidentally shot his fouryearold brother. Thats very tragic because its a child. He hasnt begun to live. He doesnt even know what life is all about. Reporter neighbors told us they saw a Large Police Presence here around 11 00 in the morning. The fouryearold was rushed to the hospital and is in very serious condition. Many neighbors now have questions about what was going on inside this home. Perhaps its an accidental why was the gun in the house at all . Reporter People Living in the home declined to speak with us. No one has been charged with a crime but police are still investigating. Im sorry for that family because they should have control over the gun. Reporter and again, the latest were hearing, that fouryearold is in emergency surgery as we speak. His condition is very serious. Again, no criminal charges at this time. Were live in new jersey. Michael george,ew agreement is in the works which cancels the threat of a new Jersey Transit strike. Its not clear when the two remaining rail unions, which represent conductors and engineers, will vote on this. The unions were part of an 11member coalition that reached deals with the agency in march. The other unions ratified that agreement. New Jersey Transit is the nations Third Largest commuter railroad. New at 6 00, a hit and run driver left a big mess in was speeding down dewitt in East New York and collided with a taxi. The driver kept going and hit three more parked cars before slamming into that red suv and going right underneath it. A man and woman ran from that bmw. They ever not been found. A man, woman and child were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. This one killed a young man in police are still searching for the driver. Its not clear if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time. A lot of pedestrians, a lot of people walking around, a lot of people going through stop signs. People need to slow down and stop caring about where they need to go, where they need to be. Some kid died last night. Thats brutal, man. Reporter police are now looking at Surveillance Video trying to catch up with that driver. Theyre looking for large suvs, escalades, tahoes. If you know anything, give police a call. Two men, one from brooklyn, lost their lives on garden state parkway. 27yearold Darrell Thomas was driving a Nissan Maxima when he lost control and crashed right through a guardrail. The car rolled over several times. It landed in a marsh. 22yearold zachary pierce from queens was also killed. Two other men from queens did survive the crash. Its still not clear why thomas lost control. Also in new jersey, investigators are working to determine what caused an overnight fire in a van this is the aftermath, that twostory home simply gutted. The fire broke out at 11 00 last night along 56th street. About 10 squatters had to be evacuated from this home as the blaze tore through. Its not clear exactly what sparked the fire. June is pride month, and there is a lot going on in the city this weekend. In harlem the seventh annual pride Celebration Day was held at Jackie Robinson park. Today for the first time, a symbol of support for the Lgbt Community is flying over clifton, new jersey. The citys mayor was the tiebreaking council vote in favor of raising that flag over the municipal building. One of those in attendance at todays clemente. He was a student who committed suicide after being bullied for being gay. A symbol to raise the flag and to show everyone, no matter what their difference or what their reason to be isolated and feel different, is, that you are welcome here in this community, in this town of clifton. Well, the councilmembers who opposed that flag going up said they didnt believe any organizations flag should be stonewall was designated as a National Monument, the milestone is being celebrated in times square. A new video billboard was unveiled today featuring president obamas historic announcement. The Stonewall Inn became the site of an uprising in 1969 after a police raid which sparked the modern lgbt civil rights movement. The National Monument status covers more than seven acres, a big chunk of including a bar and a parka cross the street. They said thousands of voyeuristic tapings happened, showing officers using the restroom and changing. The chief believes the officers have rushed to judgment in filing this lawsuit. 32 people are now dead, thousands without power, and at least three counties have been floodwaters swept away cars, even homes, as almost a foot of rain fell in just 24 hours.
