In your banking could you still write checks who are deposit by phone . The changing face of banking. We are going to talk about that in a minute and its significant, its gone mobile as you know. First, let me give you facts about banking in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire domiciler state banks and the multistate banks, deposits are up since 2006 and overall loan growth, and Small Businesses loans 6. 4 billion since 2008. Now, here is the changing face of banking. A shift away from cash and paper checks. The growth of electronic and mobile banking and virtual wallets. Visits to branch banks declining paypal, google and apple as examples. With me to talk about this is the president and ceo of the bank of New Hampshire, mark previouso. Hi, fred. Fred nice to have you. Glad to be here. Fred mobile banking has changed the face of banking like nothing else and its growing fast. In the reports that ive seen indicate that this is growing quickly and that the branch bank traffic is declining somewhat. Just talk about th technology, the branch usage is starting to fall off, but not dramatically, and whats really been helpful with the Technology Today is the convenience that consumers have, both consumers and businesses for that matter. They can bank on their computer at home, they can bank on the telephone. You know, the old land line phone that lot of people are starting to they still do that. They still do that and on their tablets and ipads and their mobile device. Fred you can just tap this. Gets into your account very securely. The data is encrypted and the banks have firewalls. The beauty is, the consumers can check their balance in an instant and they can set up alerts that protect them. For example, if their balance is falling too low or a payment came through. And they can get alerts and stay on top of their wait for the monthly statement to come in. Fred is any of this generational . Is it the Younger Generation using the mobile banking and the older generation it is across the board. Younger people are adapting to it much more quickly. In fact, young people do almost everything on the phone to point of returning their tax returns on the phone. The more elderly population, writing paper checks. But the adoption is across the board. Whether its banking or Airline Reservations online. People have adapted to that. Fred i assume it costs less to do a mobile transaction than a paper process. Many time you have to have copies of process. And bits and bites. On the other hand the Online Transactions are skyrocketing, in some respects the reduced cost of the old passioned paper check is offset by the volume of transactions that people can do so easily today are offsetting it. Fred as you know, there are nonbank banks. Google, paypal, square. Club. Fred theyre getting into the same Financial Services as banks haves, but theyre not regulated. Do you see that changing . Theyll definitely be regulated. Any that makes loans, the Financial Protection Bureau has regulation over them and theyre contemplating a Financial Services special charter. These are companies that dont take deposits, but say they make loans and manage wealth. They do it all online and the advantage is they Legacy Branch network and the expenses that entails, so, theyre starting with a clean sheet of paper ap building from the ground up. In about ten seconds, where do you see banking in New Hampshire in five, ten years . I see it a vibrant industry, particularly throughout our New Hampshire community banks, the economy in New Hampshire wouldnt be as strong as it is credit in New Hampshire and as well as a significant amount of consumer credit, residential mortgages, home equity lines. Fred you believe that will continue as it is. I believe it is over time. Less visits, necessarily, to branches to make a deposit or cash a check. More coming to the branch for advice on investments, home mortgages, home purchase. Mark primo, president and ceo of New Hampshire, banker of the year award fred thank you for being here. Thank you, fred. Fred if you want to listen to some of that again. Go to wmur. Com and go up to the top, menu, local news, scroll down to New Hampshires business. Now, meteorologist josh judge with your storm watch 9 forecast. This morning, New Hampshires business is snow. Weve got some fresh fallen snow in parts of northern New Hampshire this morning, with the temperatures just above 32 in and berlin. And colder in other spots where the snow stuck better. Temperatures in the 40s, everywhere else south of the mountains for the most part. Lets take a look at the Spotter Network. Lower 40s in southeastern parts of New Hampshire. 39 in north field though. 38 in ipswich and 30s to low 40s in southwestern New Hampshire. Were in the 30s for the most part. A few spots lower 40s and check this out in far northern New Hampshire. 30 degrees and thats why were seeing a difference, a little bit more snow in those far northern New Hampshire locations because youve got enough below the 32 degree mark that the snow can stick a little better without melting. There is your current wind gusts. Its gusting up to 20 Miles Per Hour, a couple of spots higher than that. Plymouth, these are the wind gusts in the last 20 minutes. Going through the day, theyll increase more. You can see wind gusts to 30 to problems, but it could bring down a couple of tree limbs, branches or maybe an isolated tree that causes a random power outage or two. Keep m mind, it will be a windy one. Weve been watching this. Mesmerizing as the snow rolls over, and snowflakes in the higher terrain of the monadnock reason and points to the west of New Hampshire. And again, its winding down and its dry, south of the White Mountains and even ner closer look, and we have heavy snows, and darker blue, you can tell how it its winding down for flurries. Off and on flurries can be expected the next several days, so were certainly in it for this time of year and we are seeing that happen as you would expect this time of year, but its always a little shocking the first time, winds coming down around the back side of this low pressure. See the spinning here. The sun will come out later today. Were starting out with clouds and High Pressure builds in and does bring the sunshine for us. Later this morning and into the afternoon. The only spot that you wont see as much sun is northern New Hampshire and even then breaks of sun. The chillier feel with the wind and cooler air mass. The sunshine will help, but not a whole lot. Feel kind of chilly. Notice today its clear, tonight, a system passes to the south and aou see a shower or two passing through. And a few flurries in the mountains, both tomorrow and tuesday and even wednesday, the chance of that as well. So, highs today, low to mid 50s, but with the wind, it will feel cooler and look at northern New Hampshire. The High Temperature only in the lower 40s. Here is a look at tonights lows. Were down into the 30s and lower 40s and a chillier day there. Largely dry except for snow showers and flurries in the mountains. Now its time to check out your scores. Its gone mobile, as you know. First, let me give you facts about banking in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire domicile or state banks and the multistate banks, deposits are up 50 since 2006 and overall long growth has gone from 17 billion to 25 billion since 2007 and Small Business since 2008. Here is the changing face of banking. A shift away from crash and paper checks. The growth of electronics and banking and virtual wallets, and visits to branch banks, and nonbanks are in the game. Paypal, google and apple as examples. With me to talk about this is the president and ceo of the bank of New Hampshire, mark, welcome. Hi, fred. Clearly this global banks has changed the face of banking like nothing else and its growing fast. And the reports ive seen that indicate that this is growing quickly and that the branch bank traffic is declining somewhat. Just talk about that. Well, yes, with the technology, branch usage is starting to fall off, but not dramatically. And whats really been helpful with the Technology Today is the convenience that consumers for that matter. They can bank on their computer at home. They can bank on the telephone. You know, the old land line phone that a lot of people are still do that. Yeah, they still do that. On their tablets, ipads and surface tablets and mobile device. Fred you can just tap this. Get into your account securely. The data is encrypted and the the beauty of the tablet is the convenience, consumers with check their balances in an instant. They can set up alerts, if the balance is getting too low and they can stay on top of their banking relationship. In the old days they had to wait for that monthly statement to come in. Fred is any of this generational. Younger people using the banken and or across the board . Its cross the board and young people are adapting to it more quickly. Young people do everything on the phone to the point of filing tax returns on the phone. The more elderly population, still more attuned to a regular p. C. At home or in some cases, still writing paper checks, but the adoption is really across the board. Everyone is going mobile, whether its banking or making your Airline Reservations online the banking, i assume it costs less doing a mobile transaction than a paper transaction. The paper itself had as to be processed and imaged and many times through a branch, a seller has to process it. Whereas the bits and bites of the computer can be less expensively. However, the Online Transactions are skyrocketing and the cost of the old paper check is offset by the volum are offsetting it. As you know, there are nonbank banks. Paypal, google, apple, square, and others. And on and on. Cabbage. Cabbage. Prosper. Lending club. Fred theyre multiplying and getting into the services that banks have, but not regulated. Do you see that changing . They definitely will be regulated. Some already are. Particularly those that make the Protection Bureau has protection over them. The federal government is contemplating actually having a Financial Services Company Special charter. These are companies that dont take deposits, but lets say they make loans, or they manage wealth. And they do it all online and the advantage they have right now is that they dont have the Legacy Branch network and the expenses that entails so theyre starting with a clean sheet of paper and building from the ground up fred where do you see it . I see it as a vibrant, healthy industry, particularly without our New Hampshire banks, the economy in New Hampshire would not be as strong as today. The communities banks supply the vast majority of Small Business credit in New Hampshire. Right. Fred as well as a significant amount of the consumer credit, residential mortgages, home equity lines. Fred that will continue as it is . I believe it will. More digitally, and more people coming to the branch for advice on their investments, retirement plans, home mortgages, home purchase. Fred mark, president and ceo of bank of New Hampshire. You got banker of the year award, congratulations. Thank you very much. Fred thank you for being here. Thank you, fred. Fred if you want to see it again, go to menu, local hampshires business. Now, meteorologist josh judge with your storm watch 9 forecast.
