We figured wed bring our questions to iowans ourselves. What is a caucus . A caucus is where you go to what is a caucus . A caucus is a gathering of neighbors. Basically youre all in a room. Getting warmer. Caucus they get together at night and they have delegates speak on behalf of the candidates and its a little bit more of an engaged process. 91 counties, 1600 precincts. Right. They go to a big room and people say im for hillary, im for somebody else. For democrats, its a bit more complicated than it was republicans. You have to make a 15 threshold and have 15 of the people there, if you dont those people have to an i align themselves everybody is in a group at least 15 . Is it fun . Its more than a primary. Yeah, because a primary you have to vote. Do the candidates know about this . They cant lecture me about this. Josh yet, another sunday were waking up with temperatures where youd expect them to be this time of year. Last day of january and its 37 degrees at 6 00 in the morning in seacoast. Light winds out of the southwest. The southwest wind will act to keep things milder over the next few days as it brings up a warmer air mass. And look at that, temperatures in the upper 30s throughout southeastern New Hampshire. You head farther north and west and the notches, youre in the low to mid 20s this morning. Part of the reason were seeing wind direction after warm fronts crossing through and the clouds act to keep the warmer temperatures in at night. We have plenty of clouds, as we widen the view, you can see the temperatures there are going to be milder because of that warm front, but also, you can see that theres breaks in the clouds off to our west. So, thats going to allow some, at least partial sun in at times. And here is a look at the milder air, look at those, 40s, 50s, 60s out there stream being in from our southwest and thats the air mass thats headed in our direction for the next couple of days. So, as we look at the futurecast, yeah, it will be a mixture of some clouds and some sunshine around at times today. And so, dont expect pure sunshine, there will be a lot of clouds, but times of sun. Temperatures making up for it anyway though, a good, 5 to 10 degrees milder than what we saw yesterday. For tonight, clear to partly monday, more of the same. Clouds, some sunshine, here is a line of a cold front that will roll through. It may bring a spot shower here and there, for the most part, we stay dry, slightly cooler air for tuesday and clears the house and brings in sunshine as well. And then that sunshine thats being caused by this area of High Pressure right here, fades away on wednesdays a the cold front rolls through and brings possibly heavy rain during the day on wednesday, some downpours a possibility and also mild temperatures in the 40s to lower 50s, we clear out with that with breezy and partly sunny skies. We take you throughout the time line. The tie temperatures, are you seeing this correct . 40s around the Granite State. Mid to upper 40s across central and southern New Hampshire. Mixture of clouds and sunshine and a southwest breeze. For tonight, not as cold once again, as we head into tomorrow. Not more so. Upper 40s and lower 50s. Lets take a look at the entire week ahead all this week, once again, will be above average this time of year by several degrees, if not more. By the end of the week, around friday and into next weekend, thats when things start to settle down closer to where youd expect them to be. Cooler, still above. A. Long range, everybody is asking me this, after this he canned woo, its over a week away. There could be a pattern change that makes things colder and stormier. Its out there, but its a ways away. Its mulling things over. Josh into february 1st. Amy thank you, josh. Were hearing from two men in a plane crash. They suffered serious injuries after the plane went down after takeoff. They thanked them who helped them save their lives. These two men are out for a fun afternoon on a summer day when the unexpected happened. Reunited for the first time with the people who cared for them, Ronald Gagnon and roger cross are saying thank you. Your community is very fortunate to have you. In june the two main men were taking off from Hampton Airfield when the piper cherokee began to shake. He said are they going down . I said, yeah, the wind was an issue at high altitudes. Theres nothing you can do. One thing i learned in flight training, if youre in a ditching, or crashing, with the nose it was 150 yards from a home and the plane caught fire. The only one was the right side of the plane, tried to open the door and it was jammed into and the fire came into the plane and his arm was bubbling. They came to the rescue. Focus on what was there there was to do. Gagnon was stuck in his seat. He came back in to rescue him. He came back into and over my lap and unlatched my seat belt. He was airlifted to a boston hospital. Gagnon suffered burns and 18 broken bones and treated at the portsmouth trauma center. I cant tell you what pa difference it made and proud to have come to portsmouth. The two are grateful for each other in dramatics moments, as well as the hospital and staff. I was humbled by the support and they have their mobility back. They say theyll fly again. Amy wonderful to see them looking so well. Hmm hmm hmmhmmhmmhmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmmhmm let us be lovers, well marry [ cheering ] ive got some real estate here in my bag counting the cars on the new jersey turnpike theyve all come to look for america [ cheers and applause ] all come to look for america all come to look for america all come to look for america im Bernie Sanders, welcome to New Hampshires business, im fred kocher. Manufacturing, a pillar in our economy, right . Let me read you something from the National Association of 8th and this is about the Fourth Quarter, 2015 Manufacturers Outlook survey revealing a five point drop in the Manufacturing Outlook that manufacturers continue to cite an unfavorable Business Climate has their top business challenge. Before i introduce you to the president of that group. Let me show you and give you a snapshot. Output, 7. 71 billion. A share of employment. 10. 28 and the and annual compensation, not bad. 2. 71 trillion to the economy for every dollar spent on manufacturing, another 1. 40 is added to the u. S. Economy at for 12. 33 million jobs or 9 of our work force. With me to talk about all of that is jay timmons, president and ceo of the National Association of manufacturers, welcome. Good morning. Lets go back to that outlook, unfavorable Business Climate and manufacturers are having a problem with finding employees, problem with r and d investment, a problem with trade, a problem with the tax code. Youre here on a tour of primary states, president ial primary states in New Hampshire with a message about that. What is it . Well, the reg is, look, if we get our policies right, fred, if we really rededicate ours selves to strengthening the manufacturing economy, we not only improve manufacturing, not only create jobs, not only make quality of life better in communities across the country, but we also strengthen our position of leadership worldwide and enables us to export those values that really make us exceptional as a nation. If you had one of the president ial candidates sitting across the table from you what would you tell him or her . Her its better to unite us rather than divide us. They want to be inspired by their leaders. They want to an agenda and focus on opportunities for all americans regardless of any factors, making sure that theyre promoting an agenda thats going to strengthsen our economy for the longterm. Corporate taxes is one of the issues that your members cite, the highest in the world Corporate Taxes. Thats right. What would you ask a president ial candidate to do if they get the oval office about that. I think the question is, is it a badge of honor to have the highest Corporate Tax rate in the world when you see businesses having to make decisions . I mean, manufacturing is mobile, right . I mean, manufacturers are making decisions where to headquarter their operations in order to be able to invest more money into research and development and product lines. They cant do that in this country to the extent they once used to. I would say what is the plan for and making them more competitive with other countries around the world. What should that rate be . You know, weve advocated a rate of 25 and ill be very frank with you. Thats a rate thats seen as achievable, and i think we ought to be lifting a little bit harder and we ought to look at a rate thats even lower than that, perhaps 20 , perhaps in the teens to really send a message to the world that were serious. One of the other issues youd probably talk to a candidate about are trade barriers from access throughout the borders. And you made the point about customers outside the u. S. What would a president do about trade barriers. Listen to the figure, 95 . 19 out of every possible consumers, customers, dont live in the united states. We have to get to them. What is happening now, we have a trade agreements, this populous sentiment coming out about trade agreements. Without talking about how were going to get these products to other markets around the world. The only way to open up the markets to negotiate fair and free trade agreements. In about ten seconds, which trade agreement to you want on the front burner. The document right now, is a transpacific partnership. If we dont china is going to. From the association of manufacturers. Thank you. If you want to see this again go to wmur. Com and click on business and click on economy. With the temperatures in the 40s in the state so far. You can see the beginnings of things getting lighter as the manchester at 38 degrees, winds out of the south at 8. Its the winds out of the south or southwest today that will help things get milder as a warm front crosses through the state overnight and brings in the milder air for the next couple of days. The other thing of note is the average normal low is 11 and were well above that right now. Lets talk about things to come. So, hopefully a Little Something for everyone here in the next couple of weeks. Even as the cooler air moves in and the cold front, its only a little colder and it moves in for tuesday and starts to go up again for wednesday. So we take the clouds out here and push them in and out of the it averages out to clouds and back and forth. As we go through the day. Theres that front washing out. Clouds to partly sunny skies and another mild day and tomorrow could hit 50 or the lower 50s in some lower New Hampshire locations. Bring that front through and it clears things out for tuesday as we go through the day on plenty more sunshine. Later in the week, the High Pressure that brings you your tuesday sunshine moves out of the way and there is it the rain that we expect for wednesday. So, for today, highs between about 40 and 49 degrees, and tomorrow, even a couple of degrees milder, as well see the temperatures reach near 50 or the lower 50s. Southwestern New Hampshire, upper 20s, lower 30s, more of the same in central parts of the state. When you only dip down this low up into the 30s and 40s again, thats why the lakes are having trouble freezing, of course, and northern New Hampshire were in the 20s throughout much of the Granite State there. A few differences in the Mount Washington valley. All right, lots of clouds for sure, but you notice the darker and lighter spots thats thicker and thinner portions, up to the west, where our weather is coming from, there are many thin spots. I expect to see partial sunshine at times today. That teamed up with the mild air in place does mean that it will be another decent day out there for today. Certainly a lot of clouds and milder than yesterday. 5 to as much as 10 degrees warmer than where we were yesterday, depending on your location. This is a cold front that will roll through tomorrow afternoon. So, milder air in front of it and slightly cooler air for tuesday behind it. Tomorrow, this could bring a spot shower to New Hampshire, but most places wont see it. Here is that surge of warmth so its pushing in. Tomorrow, one the warmer days for sure and not a bad day for tomorrow as well. So, today, clouds and some breaks of sunshine, here are the temperatures superimposed on top of them. The morning temperatures with partly sunny skies in the 40s once again and could get to the lower 50s briefly there tomorrow afternoon before things settle back down again. Cooler for tuesday. For today, lets lay it out here for you. Low 40s in western New Hampshire and farther south and southeast you have, mid or upper 40s certainly a good likelihood in a lot of spots and despite the clouds, tonight, once again, mild temperatures for this time of year and tomorrow, upper across central and southern m na. Northern New Hampshire making it to the low and mid 40s with clouds and sun and a spot shower a possibility. So check out your extended forecast, i count six, five out of the next seven days, well above average and the end of the week, friday into saturday and not as much, it cools off. All right, lets take a look at whats going on out there. Lots of clouds as i mentioned in the region. As you look at the big picture. At portsmouth regional hospital, they thanked those who helped to save their lives. Mike cronin has the amazing story of survival. Mike these two men have been flying together for years and they were out for a fun afternoon on a summer day when the unexpected happened. Reunited for the first time with the people who cared for them, Ronald Gagnon and cross will saying thank you. The two men were taking off from the airfield when the piper cherokee began to shake. Said, yeah, high winds and altitude, 200, 300 feet nothing you can do. If youre in a ditching or crashing situation, try to keep the nose up. They crashed into the woods 150 yards from the home and then the plane caught fire. It was on the right side of the plane, tried to open the ground. At that point the fire started to come into the plane, caught his arm on fire. His arm was bubbling. Cross, a lieutenant in the windshield. Always been taught in emergency situations to discard the bad and focus on what was good, it wasnt a lot at that point. He got out, but gagnon was stuck in his seat. He went back into the burning plane to save his friend. He claims up over my window and over my lap, to release my seat belt. And thats how he burned his left hand. More than 10 of cross upper body was burned and airlifted to a boston hospital. He was treated at portsmouth regional hospitals trauma center. I cant tell how much of a difference it made and very, very proud to have come to portsmouth. The two are grateful for each other in those dramatic moments as well as First Responders and hospital staff. I was humbled by the support and treatment i got. I cant thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart. Thank you very much. Theyre healing, but have mobility back and they say they will fly again, in portsmouth, mike cronin, wmur news 9. Manufacturing a pillar in our economy, right . Let me read you something from the National Manufacturers association, this is about the Fourth Quarter 2015 Manufacturers Outlook survey which was released in december, revealing a five point drop in the Manufacturing Outlook that manufacturers continue to cite unfavorable Business Climate as their top business challenge. With that in mind and before i introduce you to the president and give you a snapshot. 11. 37 , share of employment, 10. 28 and annual compensation average is not bad. And manufacturing in the u. S. Contributes more than 2. 17 trillion to the economy. For every dollar spent on manufacturing, another 1. 40 is added to the u. S. Economy and accounts for 12. 33 million jobs. Ap with me to talk about this is jay timmons, the president and ceo of manufacturers, welcome. Lets go back to the outlook. Its unfavorable Business Climate. Manufacturers are finding problems with employees and r and d investment and a problem with trade and a problem with the tax code. Youre here on a tour of primary states, president ial primary states in New Hampshire with a message about that. What is it . If we get our policies right, fred. If we really rededicate ourselves to strengthening the manufacturing economy, not only make quality of life better in communities across the country, but we also strengthen our position of leadership worldwide, and it enables us to export those values that really make us exceptional as a nation. If you had one of the president ial candidates sitting across the table from you right now, what would you tell him or her . First of all, id probably tell him or her, look, its much better to unite us than divide us. Americans want to be inspired by leaders. They want somebody whos going to have an agenda, who is focused on creating jobs and opportunities for all americans, regardless of any factors. Making sure that theyre promoting an agenda thats going to strengthen our economy for the longterm. Corporate taxes is one of the the highest in the world are Corporate Taxes. Thats right. What would you ask a president ial candidate to do if they get the oval office about that. The question is, is it a badge of honor to have the highest Corporate Tax rate in the world when you see businesses having to make decisions. Moving is manufacturing is mobile, right . They have to invest in research and development and they cant in this country to the extent they once used to. I would say what is your plan for lowering the tax rate and making taxes more competitive with countries around the world. What should that rate be . Weve advocated a rate of 25 . Ill be frank with you. Achievable. Without a lot of heavy lifting. I think we ought to be lifting a little bit harder and we ought to look at a rate thats lower than that, perhaps 20 , perhaps the teens to really send a one of the other issues youve probably talked to a candidate about would be trade barriers to prevent manufacturers outside of the border. You make the point, your group down, many percentage are outside the u. S. What would you ask a wouldbe president to do about barriers . Lets look at that figure. 95 . 19 out of every 20 possible consumers, customers, dont live in the united states. Weve got to get to them and whats happening right now. We have this war of words when this comes to trade agreements, this populace ous sentiment without talking about how are we going to get the products to other markets around the world. The only way to do that, to open up markets, to negotiate fair and free trade agreements. In about ten seconds, which trade agreement to you want on on the docket is a transpacific partnership, if we dont set the rules in asia, china is going to. From the National Association of New Hampshire. Thank you. If you want to see it again go to wmur. Com, click on news and click on project economy. Now, meteorologist josh judge with your forecast. Josh its a winter not quite like other winters. We start off once again with a warmer air mass pushing in for the next couple of days as well. Look at weirs beach is not that stick. 32 degrees and rising. Theres been so much talk with the events and pond hockey schedules and people trying to go out on the ice and its so dangerous in many locations, theres certainly some smaller ponds that are a little bit safer. It really behooves you to measure the ice. Take an auger and drill a hole in the ice, you really need at least four to six inches for a ice together. Six or seven if its a group of people. If youre going to put a snowmobile or a vehicle on there, at least eight to ten inches or more. Thats what New Hampshire fish and game recommends, their guidelines you want to follow to help save a life, maybe yours. Above average once again, mid and upper 30s con considered cord ncord. 30s and 20s and that will reverse around. Average high for concord is 32 and average low is 11. Were in the mid 30s. Were well above. A. The high of 32 for this day will be shattered and it has been and well head into the 40s. Lots of clouds, there will be clouds thin enough to allow partial sunshine through at times. Were calling it clouds and breaks of sunshine with milder conditions. This is the warm front that went through followed by a cold front probably moving through the state dry. But it could kick off a random shower or two here and there. But out ahead of it is the milder air, that you can see it coming up toward us here and thats whats moving in right now and it will be around tomorrow. Today in the 40s and even lower 50s are a possibility as the temperatures today will be well above average and tomorrow even more so, with clouds and sunshine again tomorrow as i mentioned, it could be a spot shower or two as that front rolls through. Then for wednesday, thats when things really turn wet as rain will arrive. Another look at futurecast here. Clouds coming and going today and tomorrow, see the front rolling through, but washing out as it does so. Temperatures will top off in the mid to upper 40s. Check out the highs for tomorrow as those temperatures reach the upper 40s and even lower 50s, later in the week, the mildest day may be wednesday, as rain and maybe even heavy rain at times, it gets cold by the end of the week.
