Its the first time that hopkins performed a double arm transplant and later this morning, we will get to meet that soldier and the surgeon. A News Conference is scheduled for 11 this morning here at the hospital. This is video from before the transplant. Brandan marrocco is the first soldier to survive after losing all four limbs in the iraq war. He was injured by a roadside bomb in 2009. He underwent the transplant last month. It involves connecting nerves and skins and muscles and bones on both arms. It involved a treatment that used the dead donors bone marrow cells to prevent his body from rejecting the new arms. Marrocco is one of 7 u. S. Soldiers to received a successful double arm transplant. He will spend the next 3 to 4 months at hopkins and will be returning to Military Hospital for further physical therapy. Again, that News Conference is scheduled for 11 this morning. The defense wrapped up the testimony yesterday leopold faces three counts of misconduct in aves and one count of fraud. He did not take the stand in his defense. Yesterday, the defense called another doctor who vouched for leopolds back problems and the Personnel Officer for county government said leopold returned 5,000 dollars after a mandatory pay raise. The judge allowed four charges to stick after a second attempt to have them dropped. Carla hamner who filed her civil lawsuit against leopold has been in the courtroom every day watching this case. The citizens of Anne Arundel County were promised an explanation as to this there was another side to this story and no one knew anything about. And i am not seeing an explanation. Person academy of pediatrics is relosing a vaccine schedule and there are a couple changes including a new report for vaccinating against pertussis or whooping cough as it is mondayly known. The one change is theres a recommendation that all women with their pregnancy get whooping cough vaccine. Its combination with every pregnancy. Ideally around 27 to 36 weeks jest station. And because infants are most at risk for contacting whooping cough before you did get can get the shots they are better protected if the mother receives the vaccine during each preg pansy. There are a couple minor changes to the schedule for vaccine for menin expwriet ies and pneumonia. Talk meningitis and new mown yeah. Talk to your peed tigs pneumonia. Talk to your pediatrician if you have questions. Its time to think about spring allergies. Health experts recommend starting allergy medications in the next couple weeks so you are not caught off guard when the flowers begin to bloom.
