We have breaking news involving the fiscal cliff. Just after midnight, the u. S. Senate celebrated the new year bypassing a bill to avoid the cliff. Reporter as americans range in the new year the senate was in session in the middle of the night passing a bill after the fiscal cliff deadline went by. We have done some good for the country. Vice President Biden who was instrumental in brokering the deal told reporters he is hopeful it gets through the house but you never know. Reporter the bill would extend tax couples for those earning under 400,000 dollars and prevent a big tax hike in a state valued at less than 5 Million Dollars and extend Unemployment Benefits for 2 million people. House will take up the bill and the hope is they can pass it before the economy is rocked by the tax hikes. Medicare reimbursement could take a hit if the fiscal cliff is not averted. Reimbursements to doctors will be cut by nearly 30 beginning today because congress may have failed to make the adjustments for medicare payments. Reporter thats right. A little after midnight 7 same sex couples gathered right here in downtown baltimore at city hall to say their eye dos. This is definitely a historic day for maryland. The couples waited patiently at city hall to say their vows. Baltimore mayor stephanie rawlingsblake hosted some of the marriages for same sex couples and perform the first ceremony. Couples brought friends and family to take part in the historic ceremony. New years day has a new meaning for many couples who can have the right to marry the person they love. Same sex couples were able to get a license in december and today they were able to legally marry with the new law. New years day marks the culmination of new year by legislators and voters to be persuaded to support full marriage rights for same sex couples. For jim and i, it means we can protect ourselves as far as our state property, you know and this is a big stef. Step but we will never be equal until the federal government makes it equal for everybody. And the new year will bring in repair work at the Carroll Hospital Center after a car slammed into the building monday morning. Cornet claims she told the teen to move as she pulled into the space and the girl leaned against the suv and began yelling. But police has video from the security cameras showing cornet striking the girl with the suv and the teen was not seriously hurt and cornet is charged with a misdemeanor in the crime. In sacramento, shots range out during the new years eve celebration and two people were killed and three others hurt. Reporter we have details about what precisely happened to secretary of state clinton. The specific blood clot as well. The clot we are talking about it was unclear where it was located previously but whoa know its in a we know its in a blood vessel located near the brain but not on the brain but it drains blood away from the brain. Its called a cerebral brain. In secretary clintons case its on the right side of the head the right side here. I will so you the left side for the sake of demonstration here. If i remove the hemisphere of the brain, you can see where the veins are. See the blue area right in there, thats the area that is draining blood away from the brain and one of the veins in this area is where that clot actually has occurred. Most likely due to a combination of the head trauma she what few weeks ago and in addition to the fact she is had a problem with blood clots in the past dating back to 1998. We are hearing from her doctors who says she is on blood thinners and is is awake and talking and most importantly theres no evidence of stroke or neurological damage. My guess is they will continue to monitor her for another couple days in the hospital and probably get another scan at some point to make sure that clot is dissolved as result of the blood thinner medications.
