They have to investigate this crashed car and there is no indication the baby is anywhere we know it is tough right now, things are happening, but have you heard if there are any baby affects in the car . But i can t tell if there is anything in the car such as a Baby Blankets or anything like that. It is impossible to tell from here. More police than we have seen at any other point in time this morning. There was one person taken believe that may have been the person that took this car. What connection that person has to the group of people who are in that car at the time that it crashed on the west side of town isn t clear. It is someone police had communication with. Elliott isaac here arriving on the scene. There is definitely a sense of urgency. The focus has shifted back to the west end. Hopefully we can get information from the chief as he gets briefed by his officers here. One person taken into custody here and their connection to all of this isn t entirely clear. They may have been the person that took this car. The car may have been taken by someone in the neighborhood. That gives police some hope that that child was taken from the car before that car was crashed at this point, there is still that urgency to try to find this infant. They are not concerned about trying to track somebody down who might have been involved so much as they are concerned about trying to find this baby girl and the concern being she is out in the weather. This child was reportedly taken from a car that was stolen from the west end on hopkins this we have a News Conference taking place now. John london is on the west side. Lieutenant colonel newgate here. We received a call in district one that we had an 18 month old child that had been left unattended as the vehicle was warming up. The vehicle was taken. District officers located the vehicle in question over our shoulder. It crashed as a result when they saw the police. For individuals four individuals fled from the vehicle. We are in the active stages of trying to identify if there was a child in the vehicle, where that child is, and initial stages of the investigation. This is an absolute priority for the Police Department to locate have you learned anything from the vehicle . There is nothing in that vehicle that gives us any indication if the child was in there or the location of the child at this time. The media followup right now is talking to those four individuals, see what we can identify and how they came into possession of the car. What the child in the car . And where the child was now. We have four individuals detained and we are working to get Additional Information on the child so we can get it to the media and find this child. Number one priority for us. Do we still believe this was a car theft that turned into an abduction or do we believe the motivation was to grab the girl . We don t know. We have a vehicle that was left unattended like many are. Warming up. I can t give you any specific information until i know it. Were there any witnesses here that have helped police . What we know right now, we had officers on the scene behind that vehicle when it crashed. The individuals who fled were apprehended. They were not in possession of the child. We are safe to believe the child is not in this immediate vicinity so we are exploring are other options on where the child could the from the district one location where this originally started. I heard there was a baby seat recovered. What i am being told is they believed that have been out there for some time, that it was cold, there was some snow on it. No immediate indication that seat was discarded from this vehicle. Is going on right now . Right now, urgent. Number one priority for the Police Department. We will get it to the media because we need your assistance. There you have it. Updating the media here. One matter that we had heard which was that you had a car seat found over by the Family Dollar but that had been out there for some time. You heard him say urgency, so if the public has any information, contact Cincinnati Police right away, call 911, or whatever number you want with regards to getting hold of Cincinnati Police as they work to determine where the girl is. Lisa we are showing a picture of the child right now. Decisively there was no evidence of car seat or baby in the car. Mark there is an hourlong timeline between the time of the time it was reportedly stolen or the time it was spotted. 7 00 a. M. To 8 00 a. M. Window of opportunity to discard the baby or for someone to have taken the baby and run off with her. It is critical at this point. Let s go to the ul wt wlwt. Andrew, what are you hearing now . We are still here in the west end and this is where the police chief is, one of the assistant chiefs here. A number of officers and detectives here in the 700 block of hopkins street. There seems to be a lot of focus on what is going on here. No indications that baby was in this started off with an amber alert situation where Police Wanted to find that car. Now they have gone to a complicated search as they try to find an infant. A lot more different difficult to track down this girl than to find this car. Now they have the suspects in custody, and they have people they can question. To figure out where the child went between this time and when it was left in the car. Two when it crashed an hour later in on the west side of town. Cincinnati police, you have got a number of detectives here focused on the 700 block of hopkins street where this car was stolen from this morning. No word from anyone that there is any sign of this child. Notification indications no clear indications the child was near the crash scene. The car was stolen and it was last seen on lynn street just a short distance away from where we are now. The child could have been dropped off between here and there. At some point, several people got into the car. I don t believe they are thinking four people hopped in the car. There may have been an exchange another. Other people were getting into the car and the infant, if it was in the car at the time it stolen, not at the time it that happened there. Call 911 if you have any idea where this baby girl might the. Might be. Lisa let it is a real mystery if you listen to Lieutenant Colonel just a few moments ago as you heard him live. They do not know where this child is. They put out an urgent plea to the public for help. They have suspects in custody and they are questioning them. So far, they have not indicated anything about that and as you take a live look at the red ford focus that crashed here, they have not learned very much from the car that will help them try to identify where the baby might be except to say that they are reasonably sure the baby is not in the immediate area here where they are. Where they have blocked off this crash scene with the yellow tape. There is nothing that i can see by eyeballing the car that would give you any indication of asked me about and any indication that would help in terms of determining what happened. Cincinnati police say this is a matter of critical urgency on their part. They want people to understand that and they very much want the public to help if they had any information about this. There are the suspects in custody and hopefully they will learn something very soon about what happened to that child. For now, they have a mystery on their hands. They are processing the car. They are talking to witnesses, and police were close by on the tail of the car at the time that it crashed. I got to tell you, the speed i don t know what it was but you can see where the car came down residential prosperity, clipped that tree, you can see part of the bumper in the front across the street and where you just saw the other side of the street. That is where the suspects got out of the car, ran, were apprehended, but no indication of the baby. We hope good news about that child comes to us very soon. Mark thanks so much. Right now. That is where we stand right now. A real sense of urgency as we heard from the captain a few moments ago in the search for the million really cold conditions. We are hoping she is inside and someplace heated. Lisa andrew has been on the first scene from the very beginning. Bring us uptodate again. You mentioned there is speculation was there a child to begin with at the address . It appears as though someone has just pulled up here. The 700 block of hopkins. Chief, is that the baby chief . Is that the infant . All right. It appears the baby is back here safe. We are waiting for a confirmation from the police chief but somebody stepped out of this black pontiac and walked into the house, holding the small infant. Cincinnati police not confirming that for us. Better look. Now we have chief elliot isaac walking over here with an update for us. Chief, what can you tell us right now . That is quite a bit more investigation to determine what took place, but the mother and the baby are here. The baby appears to be fine. That is the most important thing at this time. The baby was with the mother . That is correct. Any indication as to how she wound up with the child . It is very fuzzy at this point. We have to do more investigation to figure out what occurred here and hopefully we will have a little bit more for you in the next hour or so. We have dozens of officers all over the city following up any and every lead, so again, having the baby back safe is all we care about. We will figure out what transpired. You saw it live right here as that vehicle pulled up with the mother and a couple of gentlemen surrounding her, heading into the residence there. This all began in the west end. Just 18 days old. Still, a lot of questions as to what actually took place here. Individuals stealing what we know was a red ford escort and taking off in it. They headed towards the Western Hills area and an hour later they responded. Lisa the car wrecked and in short order pd arrested three and the fourth one taken into custody. In between that time, where was this infant . The cars wrecked and there is no indication of a child seat or evidence of a baby being in that car. You saw it unfold with andrew live on the scene. The child shows up in the arms of an unidentified woman. The chief reporting live on the scene. This is the baby but there is a lot of westerns. Questions. Mark the puzzling thing for us was john london s life seen in Western Hills. We didn in the baby affects in the vehicle. The most important thing, she is home safe. Just 18 days old. Where she has been for the last two and a half hours is a question that remains to be solved. But the important thing, there anguish in that area because you were talking about a baby that is less than three weeks old. It is bitterly cold and your mind begins to race and wonder if that baby had been abandoned and crashed that car. To our surprise, this black car baby got out of that, walked into the home, and the chief of police said things kind of fuzzy about how they connected. Things kind of fuzzy about whether or not this child was in the car. The best possible scenario, the baby is home, home safe, home with her mother. That is important here. A lot more questions remain here. A press from Cincinnati Police here coming out all over the area trying to find this girl and she was found here in the we have got a fire truck showing up here. They may be coming here to check out that threeweekold abie to make sure she is ok. Threeweekold baby to make sure she is ok. A sense of great relief in the west end. This baby girl is home. What a whirlwind couple of hours. We are running in all Different Directions trying to figure out where this abie could possibly where this baby could possibly be. What was the mood like near the family s home . There were a lot of people out here in the neighborhood who were watching to see what was going on. We had gotten indications that someone from the neighborhood may have been involved in the theft of the car. We talked to a Cincinnati Police communicated with someone convinced to give themselves up. How s that connects is one of the questions we don t have answered. You have to believe that Cincinnati Police are now wondering if the baby was ever in the car. If the car was taken from the 700 block last seen on lynn street and the baby is now back home with its mother, there begins to be all kinds of questions about whether or not the baby was in the car at the time or where the mother went. We got the impression the mother may have left the scene here at one point when we first arrived. Police were talking to her and it seemed they may have had some trouble getting her to answer the door and getting reconnected with her at some point. She left the scene here, retrieved her baby girl, and brought her back here in someone s car and now they are back on the scene. Lots of questions remain for the chief called it fuzzy at best. The fire Cincinnati Fire there, it is typical if somebody needs to be checked out. Is that what you are thinking . That this is a safety check . That is what i am thinking at this point. Firefighters are doing. They have gone into this apartment or home here with the baby was taken. One of the first things they want to do is find out if this baby girl is ok. They don t know where she has been, what kind of conditions she has been in, it is kind of bone chillingly cold. My face is numb. Not knowing what kind of conditions this girl was in, not knowing where she might have hours, that could be a real sense of concern. Firefighters are trained in Emergency Services to be able to check her out, make sure she didn t come to any harm during whatever kind of ordeal she has been through, but she is home with her mother. Mark let s back up because we initially got reports there may have been four individuals in that vehicle. Police apprehended three in Western Hills at the site of the crash. That fourth individual was back at 700 hopkins, so this is really strange. I am having a tough time putting this thing together. I am sure police are asking questions. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered still and a lot of details you have t know all the details have been communicated entirely back and forth between the police officers, the chief giving us a little bit of information. One of the things a while ago, four people were taken into custody from that car. That was the indication we got from john london. Four people in the car, four people taken into custody. Police officers tell me they took someone into custody here and convinced them to give themselves up here in the 700 block of hopkins. Whether that is connected to the person in the car, is still unclear. The biggest mystery of all is how, when Cincinnati Police had fanned out all over the city, searching for this little girl who was taken from in front of her mother s house, she wound up in the arms of her mother, pulled up in a private vehicle back to 700 hopkins to go inside are in the middle of this frantic search. Lots of questions, not only about how the car was taken but whether or not the baby was actually taken this morning. Mark we saw that live as the baby pulled up. We cover a lot of new stories news stories. I don t know that you see things like that very often. We were talking when we were rushing here to the scene this morning, we were talking about a scenario in which a car gets stolen with a child in the car. A couple years ago we had a car stolen from across the river in northern kentucky. Someone didn t realize it was left running at a gas station. The baby was in the back and that car was abandoned near the firehouse in downtown cincinnati. The young boy found and recovered. In this situation, things a little different. You have a child that was taken , reportedly, from the front of the home, a very young child in very cold conditions. Nightmare scenarios began running through your head. Nightmare scenarios for Cincinnati Police as they desperately search for that car because the fear for them would have been that someone realized they had stolen a car with a baby inside and abandoned that child. That would have been horrifying for Cincinnati Police to find that vehicle with the child still inside in weather like this that that is not the case here. The best Case Scenario has been transpired where the baby is home and safe. But we are left with this mystery of how this child wound up back with her mother. The chief of Police Telling us things are fuzzy. The Big Questions lisa we are going to get an update from police right now. Brian is with us , Cincinnati Police, giving us the update right now. We are just getting ready to get a report hear from lieutenant saunders. He is about to give an update on this. We hope we get the whole story here, hopefully some idea of what is going on. Where was the child . Why the report of the child . Mark let s get back to district three. In the vehicle, and sound in the mother s care on hopkins street. We have investigators on the scene speaking with the mother. We have an individual in custody that apparently took the vehicle. He is being questioned at this time. The three individuals in the car that was located when the car was found, in the High School Area off of ferguson, they are secure at district three. Still an active investigation, trying to get more details from the mother as well as suspects involved. Was the baby ever in danger . I can t answer because we don t know all the facts. We don t know what transpired from the point where the child was taken. Two when the child was found. The one who stole the car, you think was where . Street. So he gets in the goes with the car, but he ends up back at hopkins street . He lives in the area is my understanding. How did the car get in the hands of three other suspects . We don t know. We will try and peace all that together. Right now, it is a fluid situation. We are trying to piece it all together. We will bring you more updates and give you hopefully a clearer picture of what occurred. The child has been found. That was our most pressing concern, finding this 18 day old baby. She is safe and sound in the custody and care of the mother. The car crashed near the high school. There were only three people in the car. We were still trying to determine that. We are questioning the three individuals who were apprehended that fled from the car. They were apprehended where the vehicle crashed. But the person that initially stole the vehicle was somewhere else . He was apprehended in the west end. Do we know if the mother and this person who stole the car, is there any relationship . I don t know anything. Baby . No. What made you go to walmart . We got a tip the mother was with the child at walmart. That is what led us to the walmart. By the time you arrived at 7 00 there was no child . The child was gone as far as we understood. Are these suspects being cooperative at all. That is having an happening as we speak. My hope is that they would shed some light on the facts and circumstances that led up to this. Do you know if any of the other folks have had any contact with police in the past . It is too early to say. We have to do more investigating and understanding the circumstances. The biggest thing is, again, the child has been located, she is in the mother s care. We want to make sure that is put out to the public. The vehicle has been located. It had an accident in the area of prosperity lane near the High School Campus in district three. Whose car was that . We don t know. That is something that will be a out during the investigation. We will give you an update when we do a press conference later on. We will update you through our normal channels. There was a child wrapped in a purple blanket, this is the newborn that police were searching for this morning. She was brought out, i don t believe it was by the mother, and walked into the back of this ambulance. The firefighters arrived on the scene and went into the home where the mother and baby had gone to. There was a need to check up on t hours. Firefighters and paramedics putting her in an ambulance and a group of people here that i believe include the mother, walking down the street a short moment ago. We talked about it, we heard from Cincinnati Police just a moment ago, the sense of relief here that this baby was found. And the sense of mystery that still surrounds what unfolded here. Now after being found this morning, brought back to the 700 block of hopkins street. Cincinnati police, firefighters, paramedics working here to make sure this baby girl is ok. Less than three weeks old, a real sense of concern for her lisa the best news of all is you saw it live right here the child is safe and sound. Loaded into the back of an ambulance, there was no sense of urgency getting the child in. It could just be as a precaution. We heard from another life team member, brian at district three, bringing you live details from an officer that they do have several people in custody. They are trying to hear not only the mother s perspective, went went on what went on when the car was stolen and what was the connection if any. It sounded like the officers are trying to figure that out. Mark let s check in at district three. One of the points that jumps out is the police don t know if that they are still trying to piece all of this together. There are a lot of pieces to this puzzle. We have a car stolen, it was gone, reporters with the baby in the car reported with the baby in the car. They had a report that it was. Then you had this car a pierce high school. It then crashes, three people jump out of the car, apparently not the person who was believed to have stolen the car. How they know who that guy was, they haven t said yet. They round up the three people who were in the car, the pearson book person believed to have stolen the car not with them. Then, they do their investigation and here is where the baby is bound. This is a lot of scattered pieces and a very bizarre puzzle still working to put it all together. Questioning, they haven t said whether they are being cooperative. Which you think if they were being cooperative, they would have a better idea of what happened. But they have three here at district through the they are talking to. They re questioning those people and then they have another suspect down at sea i. S. He is the one believed to have been stolen the car. There not sure at this point if there s any relationship between him and the mother death between the mother and the suspect or any of the other three individuals. Somehow, mom and of getting her baby back. That is the good news. This very young baby apparently was not harmed in all this. I guess that is why they are down there check me the baby, want to make sure. At this point, the baby has been returned and police are left to try and sort out exactly what happened and of course, i can see in this, they are trying to charged and with what at this point. Depending on how this story sorts out, that will really identify where those charges were go as well. There are a lot of things that they are still working to try and understand.
