In order for all of that development. Property needs to be rezoned. The Forest Acres Planning Commission voted on that last night. News 19s Chuck Ringwalt was there. 3 over one hundred people were there as the Forest Acres Planning Commission voted whether to reccommend city council to rezone the old cardinal new School Property to a planned development district. The rezoning would allow for the forest acres Village Square project to move forward. Obviously something the apartments 300 more thats 300, 600 people is that most of those opposed at least some parts of project like courtney hamilton. We already know we have a traffic issue. It seems irresponsible to put that large of a development on the most congested stretch of forest drive. And although this was not a public hearing many were given the opportunity to voice their opinion. Some were in favor of the project like stephen oliver. I think its going to bring some new growth to the area. And he says traffic isnt a major issue. In tuesdays meeting, council decided not to move forward with the planned Unit Development agreement for a four acre, 60 Million Dollar property. Developers planned to have a mixeduse area with retail and residential units. However council believes that the current agreement isnt strict enough on what the developers 3 3 the city is giving developers more time to meet with residents on the proposed property. Council is expected to vote on the developments rezoning on january 20th. 3 two midlands leaders were charged with not paying their taxes. They are former Columbia City councilman. Brian newman. And kelvin washington. Who currently serves on the Richland County council. Both men turned themselves in yesterday. But washingtons attorney. Mike decided what to plea in this case. 3 the Richland County councilman turned himself in for failure to file tax returns three years straight. Hes free on a 15hundred pr bond. And his attorney. Mike duncan. Says hes expected to appear at the Richland County court in february. Duncan says theyre action before then. Including a possible plea in the case.
