If it can track even 30 miles farther east, they will be spared a catastrophe. It could happen, but not forecast. Showers tomorrow, not directly related to matthew. Steadier and heavier rain sat into early sun. 13 rdu north and west, 36 se. Flooding could be an issue in the sandhills. Winds could gust to 40, not much above that. Coast 610 rain, winds to 50 or a bit currents. Several local School Systems arent taking any chances with matthew. Cumberland. Harnett. Moore. Theres been a massive evacuation effort on the east coast of florida. 67hundred people are in shelters tonight in this part of palm beach county. Tonight the North Carolina coast is out of the cone of uncertainty, but that doesnt mean the danger has passed. Officials are warning of the potential for extreme flooding in Wrightsville Beach as well as other lowlying areas. In Cumberland County at least one unit at fort bragg is preparing for possible deployment to areas hard hit by Hurricane Matthew. Meanwhile residents still reeling from last weeks flash flooding are preparing for another round of heavy rain and possible damage. The owner of the Ace Hardware Store in spring lake says hes had a steady stream of customers this week. He says most people are buying things theyll also getting ready. Volunteers in fayetteville packed up their Emergency Vehicle with cots. blankets. And other emergency supplies if needed. red cross volunteers will operate five emergency county. Tonight members of an Orange County church are in the middle of the Hurricane Matthew disaster zone in haiti. 283 people have been confirmed dead. And the death toll is expected to rise. This is good news for North Carolina, but there will still be some impacts. For central North Carolina, scattered showers tomorrow will transition to a steady, heavier rain by saturday afternoon and saturday night. Rainfall amounts by sunday will north and west, to 37 south and east of raleigh. This is concerning for areas around fayetteville which had flooding rains last week. Flash flooding will be possible by late saturday into saturday night. Winds will not be too much of an issue, but gusts of 3040 mph are possible, especially south and east of rdu.
