this was sent into our news station by viewers. you can see the flames. they reported seeing 50 to 75 feet in the air. fire spread fast. they evacuated the complex, worked to get everyone out safe. unfortunately, as i mentioned, the father of a fouryearold little girl told thus morning she died in the basement of the complex. he said his family was sleeping when the fire broke out. he and his wife able to get one of the kids out. when they tried to break through the windows, the intense fire, all too much for them to handle. the others remember seeing the smoke and running out as quickly as possible. my friends ran out with no shoes on. booked it out. we didnt know how bad it was. we seen smoke as soon as we opened the door. we were like, our lives, thats all that matters. things up there can be replaced. our lives cant. crews on scene, trying to take care of hot spots. really monitoring the situation. the investigation will continue. hospital. we have learned this morning that sources say this was built, this apartment complex prior to a sprinkler code so there were no sprinklers in the will continue their investigation all throughout the mortgage. wkyc. Com. just heart breaking. will, this tragedy is bringing this community together. Ambrose filled with blankets, pillows, and so much more. st. Ambrose is working with the red cross. operate as a shelter just in case they found families with no other place to go. we spoke with lauri dawson who doesnt live far from that apartment complex. she volunteered to help. i used to serve on the Fire Department many years ago. ive been around for some other tragedies. this community is wonderful. we come together and help each other out. were here together. it doesnt matter who you are. youre affected by this, were here for you. we work hand in hand at community church. were all up to the same goal, taking care of people. we arrived here at st. Ambrose. theyre working with the church. theyre going to be here taking information from families who have been displaced. as lauri also says, they need food and water. i spoke with volunteers this morning who tell me that they also need men and women shoes as well as some jogging pants. this morning for these families. people will turn out. thanks so much, tiffany. time right now, its 6 03. a story will have everyone talking today. were talking about the warm temperatures. you were mentioning like 20 degrees warmer. oh, my gosh. above, yeah, probably 25 degrees normal. we should be 43 for the high. upper 60s today. were going to keep adding to it as we head through the middle of the week. were above normal highs at this moment. as youre getting kids to the bus stop, you can feel comfortable. 55 degrees at 9 00 a. M. were 54 at hopkins. upper 60s. mixed clouds and sunshine is going to be the plan. right now, mid to upper 40s and low to mid50s. i mean, come on. how great is that . you can literally have those windows cracked open today and get some nice fresh air in the house. well see how long it lasts. roads are dry. yes, they are dry. that doesnt mean were not the area. shoreway. east shoreway and a crash reported near eddie road. area. were not picking it up on the Traffic Camera. in fact, i called cleveland police. they said, hey, theyre not responding to it. they said theyre responding responding. hopefully somebody responds if theres a crash in the area. also an accident reported 76 and 77 eastbound right at akron interchange. again, were not seeing delays on that area. 13 minutes headed east. john, we have normal drive times. an akron man will be sentenced today for having a meth lab in his home where children lived. last september police were active meth lab. police say it was one of the largest labs theyve ever seen in akron. fowlers three kids, ages 1, 5, and 8, were inside the home. theyre now in county custody. their mother has been sentenced in the case. after concerns across the country about contaminated water, theres now a bigger push to get kids in northeast ohio tested for lead. even the president ial candidates are taking notice. we have a higher rate of tested lead in people in cleveland than in flint. we have more than 2,000 children in Cuyahoga County that were lead poisoned in 2014. now, to put those numbers into perspective, in flint, michigan. 6 of kids have elevated levels of lead, but the Cuyahoga Health department say the rates here, 14. experts say parents should get their kids tested and do it early. be in northeast ohio today. governor kasich will be in broad view heights at a rally today and Hillary Clinton will be in cleveland. shes holding a rally tonight at the rec center downtown. now lets send it over to maureen with your morning newsfeed. lynna, thank you. police are searching for a former marine accused of shooting a Church Pastor in idaho. no one has seen him since witnesses saw him open fire. the pastor was shot several times, including once in the head, three times in the shoulder, once through a lung that collapsed, and once through his pelvis. the pastor survived and is expected to recover. police say odom should be considered armed and dangerous. the 14yearold girl who was shot during the rampage in kalamazoo michigan is expected to leave the hospital today. she was shot by uber driver during the shooting spree back her heart stopped and she was kept on life support so doctors could harvest her organs. then she made an amazing recovery. her family says shes improving every day, and shes going to be sent to a rehab facility. this is all over the internet this morning. drivers in texas can blame a naked woman for causing a traffic jam yesterday. the woman was dancing on top of an 18wheeler on a houston highway. deputies say it took two hours to coax her off the truck. authorities are not sure why she was up there but say she was talking about everything from the cia to aliens. she also spit on one official who tried to convince her to come down from the truck. now, deputies were eventually able to arrest her after she caused the traffic jam for mys and caused a lot of breaking news out of brunswick. a deadly Apartment Fire took the life of a fouryearold. the girls father tells us she died in a basement unit of the Hickory Hills apartment complex. witnesses say the moment. an akron man will be sentenced for raping three children, all under the age of 10. a jury convicted gordon. the prosecutor used a unique approach to help the children testify. they used a support dog trained a father charged with murder in the death of his 3 yearold daughter is being held on a 1 million bond. matthew mikhou is abused of murdering his daughter. the livein girlfriend, back to our breaking news. a young girl has died. six others are injured after a fire went through a brunswick apartment late last night. the fire broke out at the Hickory Hills apartment in brunswick. thats where will ujek is live this morning. will, what else are we finding out about this one. fire crews got the call. six different departments showed up here. they did all they could to evacuate the complex. it was very, very hot when they got there. they couldnt get inside right away. the father of the little girl, fouryearold, told us this morning she died in the basement unit of the complex. she said family was sleeping. out. they tried to break through the window of the girls bedroom, the intense heat from the fire much. you can see here from some of these images that crews police are warning residents about a new email scam. a resident said she got an e mail from Traffic Camera violations at odot. Gov. the email said she owed a fine Traffic Camera. police say if you get this e mail, dont open it. its a scam. this came from a fake address. a thief got away with 6,000 from a Girl Scout Group selling cookie. the troop was raising money for a trip, but the thief made off with the money. about 571. a go fund me account was set up to replace the money. 700 has been raised. one of the stories weve been following overnight passengers are safe but shaken up after their commuter train went off the rails last night. Authorities Say nine people were injured when a tree fell onto the tracks, knocking the commuter train off the rails. the front car was thrown into a creek.
