good evening, everyone. there are new questions about a little girls disappearance and then reappearance in lorain. she was gone for more than four hours last night, and investigators still arent sure what happened. channel 3s andrea haransky explains some of the reasons theyre questioning whether someone abducted her. reporter good evening to you. thats right, something isnt adding up, and police arent able to put their finger on it. they say that little girl could not have survived out in the cold as long as she was missing, and tonight they believe they believe they suspect someone had to be with her. relatives say londa showed no signs of hyperthermia. police say she showed no earlier signs of abuse when a Good Samaritan picked her up around 1 00 a. M. dozens of volunteers spend more than four hours in freezing conditions, trying to find her, only to have her turn up near cleveland boulevard and missouri avenue, several block from her home. investigators believe someone but whoever it was remains a mystery. lonias tenyearold sister told police she saw someone grab the girl by the hand in their yard, there were no foot prints in the snow. nearby utility workers saw nothing, and tonight her relatives want answers. i personally dont feel theres no way she could have been out there that long and still be here with us. i think she would have froze. so somebody i do believe somebody picked her up, and got scared, and dropped her off. and if youre that person, im asking you, please, from the bottom of my heart, my familys heart, do the right thing turn yourself in. reporter and tonight they are thanking residents here and the media for moving quickly on this, jimmy. they said that made all the difference. let me ask you this in this kind of a situation, you would think an amber alert would go out. that did not happen, right . that was a question posed to police. typically an amber alert situation, they have information to go on, things like a license plate, a suspect description a getaway car perhaps. last night, as youll recall, they didnt have any of that information other than a twoyearold girl had gone mussing. certainly something that made this situation look very dire. again, why that girls picture, why the spread of social media and our reporting as well, media reports helped in getting her found. the man who eventually found her said he saw her picture on television. thanks very much, andrew. an akron mother is grieving her sons death after he lost his battle with drug addiction. he died last week of an overdose. channel 3s Brandon Simmons shares the change he is calling for to prevent others from having the same thing. this drug took him over. this drug is the devil, and its taking our childrens lives. reporter just seven days after the death of her son ryan, kathy continues to mourn, wishing she could bring him back. the last week to die from suspected drug overdoses in summit county. one or two a day, thats too many. thats way too many. reporter ryans drug of choice was heroin. it all started when he began taking pain pills after a car crash, pain pills soon turned to heroin. in december 2014, rewrote a living will detailing how hard it was for him to escape addiction. i think he knew he did know eventually this was going to kill him. reporter ryans will read in part, i in no way have done this intentionally. kathy says most addicts like her son are good people. theyre not bad people. theyre people with an addiction problem. theyre people who are suffering. reporter she wants other addicts to get help. the first stop, calling out the dealers who are selling killer drugs. we have to do something. i am determined im going to make a difference somehow. in his arm. in his arm. i dont blame anyone for that. but what was in that needle killed him. reporter in akron, Brandon Simmons, chan until 3 news. and we continue on that point now. listen to this statement for some drug addicts, an arrest may save their lives, and its all thanks to an Innovative Court that gives them a sex chance. Senior Health correspondent Monica Robbins joins me live. she is at the Justice Center to explain the major milestone reached today. hi, monica. reporter good evening, jimmy in chick, drug court began accepting clients in 2009. today they celebrated their 300th graduate. it is a program thats not only saving lives, but putting them back together. rochelle muscovutz grew up in a solid par ma family, but a car accident at 15 altered her life. i was prescribed pain medicine, and it just didnt stop after that prescription was gone. cholesterol law turned to heroin. after numerous encounters, she ended up here, in judge david mattiass drug court. they genuinely care. they dont want you to go through jail. reporter she went through treatment twice a twelvestep program, and discovered more than sobriety. almost a year clean, im working. i see my kids regularly. im a mother again, and i wasnt for a long time. reporter rochelle is one of 300 success stories, graduating from the Court Program that has proven success. of the first 249 people through, only 8. 4 have been rearrested after 12 months compared to 27 for a control group. reporter among these graduates are those from ohios First Recovery court, those who suffer addiction and mentalhealth issues from trauma. if we dont treat that trauma, that person is going to continue to do what theyve been doing, which is selfmedicaid. a combination of, you know, science, compassion, reporter rochelle is proof it works. two totally different worlds. drug court changes everything. did it change your life . . it did. i dont think i would have made it without it. reporter does it work for everyone . no. in fact, some who die forever dose. for those who hit bottom, this may be the last resort for them to finally see the possible. You can see the chances start to sneak in by 1 00 a.
