And it wont be easy for them to get back to their daily routine after police say their classmate two days ago. The shooting left students and parents shaken. And local12s angenette levy was there as they were invited to walk through the school last night to help them feel safe. 3 the parking lot at madison juniorsenior high school was full tonight. As parents brought their children to the school a day after gunshots forced the school to close. Sot Kaitlyn Morris freshman 6 54 57 i didnt hear the gunshots but they came on the announcements and sounded urgent saying that the building was on lockdown so we knew what to do. 6 55 04 coming back to the school a day after the chaos wasnt easy. Cathy morris daughter 6 54 08 it was a little unsettling at first. It really was knowing what happened there. Even though the shooting happened in a different building. Karey princes elementaryaged children were scared to come back. Karey prince has children at school 6 56 24 it felt good. A relief of edgy because i was worried about my 8yearold. My youngest was the one that didnt want to go to school. 6 56 35 cameras werent allowed inside the school. But from talking to doors may have been the most difficult part of the night. I dont want to see that ever again. Brant murray was one of the four teenagers hurt. He was hit with shrapnel, and was sitting right next to the accused shooter. His mother says she was on her way to the school when she got a call from the prinicpal. 3 he was actually sitting at the table all the boys that sitting there eating lunch cause theyre round tables, and boy that did the shooting was at the table sitting next to them. Said he got up and started shooting, pointed the gun and opened fire on their table. Ginger weaver says brant has shrapnel in his thigh and calf that hell have to get surgically removed. Shes very proud of him though. Because his classmates are calling brant a hero. They say he knocked them out of the way of gunfire. 3 the teenager at the center of this investigation appeared in court yesterday. It only took a few seconds for james austin hancocks attorney to deny the charges against him. Those charges include attempted murder. Hancock didnt say a word. But Butler County sheriff Richard Jones did. He says hancock waited almost 30 minutes for a School Resource officer to leave the cafeteria before he opened fire. Jones says he knows why hancock started shooting. But isnt releasing that quite yet. But its enough for him to push for the 14yearold to be tried as an adult. 3 he should be in big boy prison when he goes. He shouldnt go to where kids go. Hancock got the 380 caliber handgun from a family member. He wouldnt say how he got the gun. But he did say that the teenager had more bullets. Hancock will be back in court next month. Nine tornadoes touched down, and 11 people died on march second 2012 and the days that followed. Moscow ohio, holton indiana, and piner kentucky all took direct hits. Dustin purcell killed his best friend Mitch Woodruff in 2009 during a street race. After paying his dues in prison, Dustin Purcell is now trying to keep other young people from making the same tragic mistakes. I pulled up beside the mustang. And he started coming over in my lane. I swerved to miss him. I caught the side of the road. When i caught the side of the road my car just caught and started flipping. Experts would later conclude, dustins car was doing 109 miles an hour when he flipped. Mitch woodruff window. Convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide, judge Victor Hadadd sentenced dustin to 6 months in jail. And a 20 year license suspension. When he was released, dustin says he was unable to handle the consequences of what hed done, and he violated probation. This time, he got four years in prison. Got with the wrong crowd. Wrong crowd got me in more trouble sitting in the hole. Not getting visits, seeing my family. Not getting phone calls. 08 in the stomach and in the back two times. That was a wake up call. As part of judge haddads sentence, dustin has to serve 1000 hours of community service. Hes chosen to do a large part of that at goshen. For Dustin Purcell. Talking with these students is about a lot more than just serving out his sentence. Its about redemption. Dustin was familiar with the school because he had to attend classes here to get Court Approved driving privleges for work and community service. Pretty much when i Start Talking about when i was in the car and looked out the window and see my best friend laying there. Laying there. Thats when you see them start listening. And looking. At his pictures. Instructors here say listening to dustin, reaches students on a level far beyond what they can teach them. I watched a couple girls wipe tears. I really did. I wiped a couple myself. The lessons are powerful and painful. When i speak to these kids. I feel like you know im helping them out. And if i can save just one person from making the same mistake its a difference i made. I just want to make a difference. This was the first time dustin had been back on this road since 2009. He pointed out recent tire marks from cars doing what he cornfields are planted with ghosts.
