Hes accused of mailing letters to mikulski and other lawmakers in february 2012. The letters contained white powder, causing major dinner concern about bioterror attacks. The powder was then deemed harmless. Sex, drugs and gang activity, all behind bars. Another guilty plea in the scandal at the city jail. A Police Officer pleads guilty to her role in the scheme. 26yearold Kimberly Dennis helped the black guerrilla gang operation smuggle drugs into the city detention center. Prosecutors say she also had a sexual relationship with two gang members while sharon behind bars. In addition to the seven officers, three other defendants in the case had pleaded guilty to racketeering charges, including the gangs leader at the jail, tevon white. The scandal caused a major review of operations inside that city jail. An investigation is under way into a deadly fire in northwest baltimore. Firefighter were called to the home in the 3800 block of hilton road. The 88yearold homeowner was found on the second floor in cardiac arrest. He died after being rushed to the hospital. According to our media partner, the man who died, edward clark, of the head umpire for the Baltimore City parks and rec. Reporter when Sharon Lansbury first heard about the shooting at the high school, she sent her husband michael a text message. He didnt respond. She had a feeling michael, a marine and National Air Guardsman had stepped in. Police say a 12yearold shot and killed the math teacher and coach as he tried to convince the boy to put down his weapon. He wouldnt want me to be angry. There is no reason to be angry. We lived a good life. Reporter three days before michael died, the couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary. And before he left, he said these final words to his wife. A photo of a student was taken, without the students knowledge and posted on social media, which sparked some pretty nasty comments. School officials are treating the incident as Cyber Bullying and say it violated the School Systems code of conduct. A 12yearold pennsylvania boy finds a razorlike blade in his halloween candy. The boy said he found the small blade in a package of m ms while trickortreating over the weekend. And he found this blade burg the towns sanctioned day of trickortreating, which is supposed to keep kids safe. An investigation is under way by local police and the candy company. More than a dozen vehicles are involved in a massive Chain Reaction wreck. According to police, more than 15 vehicles were involved in that crash, including a tractor trailer. Police believe two separate crashes happened back to back. One person was hospitalized. No one was hurt. Police say fog in that area, and wet roads may be to blame for the pileup. 13yearold andy lopez is laid to rest in california. The teens death has sparked question and outrage. Last week, a sheriffs deputy opened fire, after mistakenly thinking the teen was cawrg an assault rifle. Carrying an assault rifle. Hundreds took to the streets tuesday, many of them teenagers, skipping school. Demanding justice for lopez, gunned down by a sheriffs deputy last week, who apparently thought the teenager posed a deadly threat, holding what turned out to be a toy gun, an ak47 replica. But some think the deputy and his partner showed poor judgment. Or worse, deliberately targeted a hispanic youth. Were here to say a badge is not a license to kill. We demand the cops be jailed. Reporter investigators from another Police Department are still reviewing the case, but thus far seem to be defending the deputy, eric yohaus, a 24 year veteran, saying he had to quickly act, based on the perceived threat. The weapon appeared to be real. The subject appeared to be turning toward them. And the barrel of the weapon appeared to be rising in their general direction. And not without critics when it comes to chicken manure. Full of nitrogen, its a useful fertilizer. Too much algae creates dead zones in the bay. But algae is also what oysters eat. We have to put the oysters back in the bay. You cant run the bay without filtering in the bay. So perdue is giving 50,000 to the maryland grow oysters program. We grow about 100,000 a year. John bacon is a volunteer in that program. Hes supplied with cames containing oyster shells. On those. When the oysters grow out, theyll be moved to backyard sanct yawrses. Leave them alone. They could become resistant to disease. The Oyster Program started in 2008, with 170 growers in one waterway. Today, its up to 1800 on 30 waterways who have raised 6 million oysters. The reason why is a common one. The bay is important to us. We want to make slawr sure we do our part to help keep the bay clean. Al, demetrick. Alphonso van marsh reports for wjz with more. Reporter the vatican says its not worried about reports that u. S. Security agencies spied on cardinals as they prepared to elect a new pope in march. An italian magazine says the National Security agency listened in to telephone calls in and out of the vatican. The latest allegations come as spains Prime Minister grows a growing list of allies, furious over spying on leaders. If true, he says, this activity is inappropriate is unacceptable. A spanish newspaper reports nsa tracked more than 60 million phone calls in spain in just one month. It is disgusting. America is friends when its convenient, he says. France and germany are also demanding an explanation. German chancellor Angela Merkel is investigating reports that the u. S. Has been monitoring her cell phone for years. The new report says contract guards who protect facilities dont respond to adequate training to the shooting. The september massacre left 13 people dead, including the gunman. That gunman worked in one of the buildings there. The new report says officials at five Guard Companies say their guard cannot receive train on what to do when a gunman is opening fire. The hunt is on for a predator in colorado. A man breaks into an 8year olds bedroom, and tries to trag drag her to his car. But she fought back. And police say that could have saved her life. Reporter terrifying moments for an 8yearold girl in aurora, colorado. Looks like an unknown party came in through the daughters bedroom window. Reporter just after midnight. We do know a light was on in the bedroom. It might have been possible for the predator to look and see inside that there was a child, which in some ways makes it even more chilling. Reporter the man ripped the screen off her window, grabbed her as she laid in bed, pulled her through the open window, forced her through a dark alley, toward his car. This young girl immediately cried out, immediately put up a fuss and a struggle, and who knows if that might have saved her life. Reporter her cries, the struggle enough, alerting her father and mother, escaping her captor and into her mothers arms. Her father ran after the suspect, only catching a glimpse of what appeared to be a new silver bmw driving away. Now, an entire city on alert. Part of the reason for this press conference is to alert the entire denver metro area that this predator is on the loose. Reporter the girl was able to help investigators draw up this sketch. A white man, blond hair, black coat, smelling of cigarettes. A reward for information leading to his capture, now doubled, to 20,000. Now, the childs grandmother says another child was in the room at the same time. But that child was asleep. Baltimore city Police Arrest a suspect in a murder. 23yearold britney powers is in custody today. She is accused of killing a 24 yearold woman in the 800 block of abbott Court Earlier this month. No details yet about a motive. Skateboarder is in Critical Condition now, at shock trauma, after colliding with a police car. The Sheriffs Department says it happened last night. Investigators say the 20year old was hit when the deputy made a turn and the skater couldnt stop in time. Police say the skateboarder was at fault. For the first time, we are hearing from victims who were on that ride at the North Carolina state fair that malfunctioned, injuring several people. Bo minic has their terrifying experience. People that are arrested reporter it was supposed to be a fun night at the fair. But for chardonnay patterson and kayleah donaldson, they end up literally, hanging on for dear life. I tried not to scream because i felt like screaming would have made it worse. Reporter the two are students at louisberg college. They went to the fair thursday night and actually had ridden the vortex earlier that same night. After riding it a second time, donaldson had trouble getting out of her harness. Just like the last click. And i tried to get out of it and it wouldnt let me. Reporter after the ride was stoped and people were starting to exit, witnesses say it started back up again. Donaldson was partially harnessed and patterson had no harness on at all. My eyes were closed the whole time. But the next thing i know, people were laying down, unconscious and all of that. Reporter witnesses say the ride went up about 20 or 30 feet in the air, flipping upside down, and leaving patterson with nothing to do but hold on. I was just telling her, please dont let me go. The two managed not to fall. Paterson hurt her shoulder, and her friend had bruises, but they realized if are five for five others who are in the hospital, its much worse. They also realize that the pride operator is accused of tampering with the safety devices. He was controlling it. Whenever he punched me. He deserves it. He hurt five people. The mountains of norway are a good place to generate hydroelectricity. But this far north and in valleys this steep, theyre not a good place to get a sun tan in the wintertime. For six months of the year, beginning in october, the sun is so low in the sky, it never reaches the valley floor, where the town is. The founder of the town, a foresighted industrialist, recognized the problem and put in a cable car to take the residents up the hillside and into the sunlight to keep them from getting a terminal case of cabin fever during the long, dark winter. Police say a packed bus crashed into a highway barrier and killed the 45 passengers who were inside. The driver and six others managed to escape through a window. The other passengers were trapped inside the bus, which had a locking system, controlled by the driver. The bus driver is facing several charges. Today, a dust storm is blamed for a string of accidents that claimed live of three people in arizona. The dust blew across two states in phoenix and tucson, causing a chainreaction crash. 19 people were involved. At least one car got pinned between to 18wheelers. At least a dozen people were injured. Mass murdersuicide. Six people are killed in a deadly shooting in South Carolina. Mary is live in the newsroom with details on the shooting. Six people, including two children were shot to death in a South Carolina home last night. Officers rushed to the scene after a man called 911 and said he was thinking of hurting himself. Shortly afterward, 911 received another call from a neighbor, saying four children frantically ran from her house, after hearing gunshots. When the s. W. A. T. Officers arrived, they found six body, two women, two men, a boy and a girl. The sheriff said one of the deceased men is a suspected gunman. The man accused of fatally shooting nfl star sean taylor, waives his right to a trial and takes the stand in his own defense. Reporter accused burglar and killer, eric rivera, chose to testify against charges he shot and killed sean taylor, an nfl and south florida football star in taylors palmetto bay home. No. This alleged triggerman said he only reluctantly went along for the ride, with four acquaintances who came from fort myers, believing taylors house, would be flushed with cash. A video shows a woman standing on the narrow ledge over an expressway, with a bus load of passengers, driver darnell barton, starts a bus, approaches the woman, talked her off the ledge ask pulls her to safety until help can arrive. Barton says he believes the incident was faked. City officials in irwindale, california, want a srichahot sauce plant shut down. Residents say the odor from the plant is unbearable. Reporter at the huy fong foods plant, where the popular sra cha sauce is made, this is one of the busiest times of the year. But the plant is at risk of having to shut down after facing criticism from neighbors like edward anthony. Every morning, it smells like chili powder. And its irritating. Above them are carbon filters that suck up the pungent odor, send them straight to the roof and release through vents. Reporter the companys founder, david tran, took us to the roof to show us where the odor is released into the air. It is not strong. Theres no smell at all here. My head is directly over the unit. Reporter the city said its recommended bringing in a few filtration system. That would arrest 99plus percent of the problem were talking about. But that would cost nearly 600,000. And the company says there is no guarantee it will work. We dont want to put in a unit, spend a lot of money, and then have the residents still have an issue. Both sides are expected in court thursday. If huy fong is ordered to stop production, the company said you can expect the price of sra cha to go up.
