and i want to stress, at no time was safety compromised. >> reporter: the reno flight landed with assistance from air traffic controllers in california. the air traffic association is outraged. >> i believe this is an outrageous situation that will not fly through on my watch. >> reporter: several sleeping controller incidents have been accounted for this week. the faa now promises to put new overnight controllers. still passengers seem split about what to do about the controller who fell asleep in reno. >> you have too many lives at stake. for something like that i would recommend for him to find another place to work. >> we're human, we all make mistakes. >> reporter: back to you. >> kai, thank you. and bwi already employed two traffic controllers overnight. and a window washers in baltimore was in a predictment today. >> reporter: on the side of this mass building. he's 120 feet or more dangling over the ground. mike lusk saw it all. >> a man hanging on the side of the window. returned calls to eyewitness news. a triple shooting leads police in a high speed chase. tonight we're learning it all started with a middle school argument. two boys ages 14 and 15 and a woman were shot in the turner station neighborhood of dundalk this afternoon. one city officer was injured in the pursuit. he is expected to be okay. and weijia jiang explains. she spoke to the victim's mother who says she's fed up with crime. >> reporter: blackwell was studying to be a nurse. but last month she was found murdered in her parents home. >> he brutalized my daughter for no reason. he tortured her to death. this was a peaceful child and he took away a jewel from us for no reason. >> reporter: for the first time since losing her youngest daughter, blackwell's mother spoke to wjz about the horrific crime. he admitted to stabbing blackwell twice for a wii and several games. >> i believe it's a more issue of why this predator did this to my daughter. >> reporter: police revealed blackwell and abdula were not linked romantically but knew each other from high school. abdula has a long criminal record. >> i am angry and i'm sick of baltimore city. i would love to hear his confession. i would love to stand face to face to this animal and ask him, why did you take my child away from me. >> reporter: we were also at kaufman stage who said they held several vigils on campus in blackwell's honor and will continue to do so. abdula is scheduled to appear in court next month. members of the westboro baptist church were back in maryland today protesting outside a school. but this time they were outshouted by hundreds. -- burgess high has banned students and parents from bringing food to school to share. and xavier montgomery rice has been thrown out of her house after falling behind on the rent. mayor montgomery wright was evicted yet for not paying $175,000 $175,000. wright montgomery is running for a second term. fighting the dream act. it's only been days since lawmakers voted to allow children of illegal immigrants to pay instate tuition. kelly mcpherson explains why some say the new legislation is wrong. >> reporter: it was a fiery debate in annapolis. now the arguments are intensifying across maryland with a threat of a statewide referendum. debate over illegal immigrants qualifying for instate tuition is far from over. >> it's like breaking my heart because this is my dream. i mean i want to go to college. >> reporter: the law goes into effect this summer unless a call for a referendum comes together in time. >> you can't have people violating the law and then receiving a benefit. maryland has become the disneyland of america for illegal immigrants. >> reporter: state delegate scott mcdunna is suing the state of maryland for allowing illegal students to pay instate tuition. here at the university of baltimore, a person who lives in maryland would pay about $21,000 a year. but out of state tuition is $30,000. that's a difference of $9,000 every year. >> it's not always about what's legal. but what's just. keep in mind a half century ago it was legal to keep african americans and white separated at lunch counters. >> reporter: are looking for are people who are dedicated to service. >> in a special hometown heros campaign, the mayor and the police commissioner are asking the community to help find baltimore residents to join the police force. the defendant is looking to fill 300 spots by the end of the year. orioles legend brooks robinson is home from the hospital tonight. robinson was released from bgmc where he spent two weeks recovering from an infection. the hall of famer released a statement saying he's on his way to a full recovery. bgmc received 50,000 get well messages during robinson's stay. the inner
