Two brothers were shot and they were driving themselves to the hospital. Police get on the scene and there is a man there with a hostage inside. They eventually determine. Now police say at a certain point the man came to the front door and at that time, it is unclear if he is armed or not. Police cant confirm that for us. One of the swat team members who have been called to shot that man. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Before it happened, at some point the witnesses told me he had interaction with police on the back deck. Saw one of the fatigued gentleman dressed one an a. K. Or whatever gun they had. They were running around to get everybody out of the way. They were like get in the house. I heard maybe gunshots or some type of i dont want to say explosive but some type of noise. This is the back deck he came out on. You see the upper windows and how they are not there anymore . There was also a twoalarm fire set by the suspect but not 100 sure. The person who was the hostage inside after the suspect was shot, the hostage was freed from up in the townhome there. We are told the only injuries the hostage suffered was smoke inhalation. They believe the hostage was another man so he was minorl two brothers were shot and then the suspect was shot by the police. Later pronounced dead at the hospital. The fire is out. Everybody is accounted for at this point. Police say they are working to continue to investigate. And make sure the fire cant restart again. Jonathan that breaking news we are following is coming from herndon where we are on the scene of a wild chain of events including a fire, a barricade situation, a hostage situation and a Deadly Police shooting all at one home. Maureen a suspect shot by police has now died. Three other people were shot in the incident. There is a complicated investigation unfolding. Jonathan lets get to tom roussey live from the latest from the scene where he was briefed by police. Tom . Tom it is complicated but we are able to start it out for you for the most part here. Its still an active scene behind me. There were firefighters and police s. W. A. T. Team members called out to the scene. Here is video we took earlier this afternoon. One town home on covered wagon lane in the mcnair farms neighborhood. Two men were shot at the townhome. That happened before any police were called. Then police were called to the scene. At that point they say a man had a hostage inside according to the neighbors with the police. At one point coming out on the back deck. Another point coming to the window. He came to the front door. A neighbor told me he had something in his hand. She couldnt tell what. Police opened fire and shot him. He was conscious on the scene after being shot. But later he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The hostage was freed. Police are telling me they think the hostage was a man but neighbors tell me the hostage was a woman. We are trying to sort it out. The hostage was only treated for smoke inhalation that we are told at the time. You have a total of three people shot. The two brothers initially shot and drove themselves to the hospital. We dont have an update on the injuries but they were at least well enough to drive themselves to the hospital. Then also the man who was shot, the suspect in this case later pronounced dead at the hospital. Then the hostage treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. Its still a long night.
