Everyone turned off the lights and we sat down around the wall. Around noon the University Officials announced that the scene was secure and no longer an active shooter investigation. We have a man with a knife running around cutting people. Elizabeth police later confirming the suspect was shot and killed and rumors about a second suspect unfounded. A male suspect drove a vehicle over the curb, west 19th, wes struck pedestrians. He exited the vehicle. He used the bumper knife to start cutting pedestrians. There were multiple injuries related to lacerations or cuts. Likely from the stab wounds from the butcher knife. Elizabeth they are not releasing the suspects name but say he is a resident from live inm columbus, where we are live in columbus, where we are learning more about the suspect. What do we know about his relationship to the university . What we know now is we just actually talked with some federal sources who have released the name to us. We know this is an 18yearold somalian man. Im unsure if he actually attended ohio state. His name is abdul artan. Students we few minutes ago that all of the buildings around campus have reopened. They are able to go back to get anything they may have left behind. For hours it was locked down. These are behind me actually the chemical labs. So where the chemistry classes are being held daytoday here on ohio states campus. Michelle brooks, what can you short while ago that he allegedly made before the attack . Do you know more about that . Reporter what we know is the postings had flagged the attention of many federal agencies including the f. B. I. There is a press conference starting. We want quick. That is the president of the university. The original victims were struck by the car at 9 52 this morning. The officer encountered the individual by 7 53. 9 53. Neutralized by 9 503. Then there were alerts for people to shelter in place. First exit and avoid the circumstances or the place where this happened. So they learned where it was. And get away from the circumstances that we have trained for on desktops and other exercises. They did that. They got to secure places. And then forces from a variety of local Law Enforcement from our Campus Community from the city and from the state joined us, and the f. B. I. Joined together on campus to sweep the campus to make sure there was no further threat. Pl 90 approximately 90 minutes later the buildings were released. I have th they will speak in a moment. I just want to say first we had a chance to speak with the officer who was the First Responder and to thank him for following the training and being able to neutralizes the circumstances within one minute. Also, i was able to visit three of the people injured who are here in the hospital to let them know how much we are praying and supporting them and coming to a complete and speedy recovery. The ones who were here in the people are having more work done. I think dr. Thomas can give you updates on that. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and we are pleased no one was more seriously injured and look for them to recover completely shortly. Monica let me give you a brief timeline of events this morning that we had at out that a car had hit seven to eight pedestrians. This happened 9 52. Called on the dispatch center. A few seconds later the officer called out to a call that indicated officer in trouble, that there was a man with a knife. At 9 53, the same officer called out there were shots that is when the officer engaged the suspect. The suspect drove his vehicle into a group of pedestrians. There were injuries that resulted from that. The suspect then got out of the vehicle with a knife. And began cutting individuals in the area. The officer engaged the suspect and fired shots and used deadly force to stop the threat. The threat to safety was ended at that agencies responded in addition to o. S. U. P. D. And began to surround the area. We also followed up on the other possibilities and the other leads going on. The lane avenue parking garage. There was a rumor there might have been another potential threat there. That was thoroughly searched and that turned out not to be true. I would like to share with you today the officers name who we all owe a debt of gratitude to. He is a 28yearold officer named allen haruchko. He has been with o. S. Z p. D. Since january 2015, so not quite two years. The suspects name, we can confirm that the suspect was an o. S. U. Student named abdul artan. We dont have any the investigation is ongoing in that regard. Dylann roof was found competent to stand trial on friday. A judge has granted roofs motion to represent himself in court. Prosecutors are seeking the Death Penalty in this case. Michelle we are monitoring developments after several requests for recount in the president ial election. Today wisconsins Election Commission announced the recount will begin this thursday. But it rejected a request by Green Party Candidate jill stein to be done by hand. Will determine the methods they use. Jonathan over the weekend, president elect trump tweeted claims of voter fraud. Stein is asking for wisconsin. But trump is talking about california, New Hampshire and virginia but not offering up specifics. Jeff Election Officials across virginia are not happy about trumps claims because smoothly run election and trump has not provided, as you mentioned, any evidence to back up the claims he was tweeting about last night. Then four hours last night another tweet alleging serious voter fraud in hampshire and california. All states trump lost on election day. Election leaders were surprised and frustrated by the claims saying they and the colleagues work hard to make sure the voter rolls are accurate and everybody who voted on election day were the if there is someone citing these without basis and people believe them, that is a cause for concern. An arkansas family speaking out now about surviving a serious car crash over the as we report, an 8yearold girl thrown out of the car, ejected but later found safe inside a drainage crate. All i could see was a big trub hitting me in my face. Justice was one of five people in a car on the eastbound lane of interstate 30 and texarkana, arkansas, friday night when Authorities Say an 18yearoldwheeler clipped the car while changing lanes. The air bag flung her mom trina in the road. Before she could get to her, trina was hit by a passing vehicle. I got to her and pull her over by the rail where we was. I look down and all i saw was blood on me. Momma, she was still alive. I thought she was dead. Another person in car began to look for her missing 2monthold daughter thrown from the car 8monthold daughter thrown from the car. I started running up and down the highway, l calling her name. I didnt hear no baby crying or screaming. Nothing. I panicked. I thought she was gone. It was the worst 15 minutes of my life trying to look for her. Texarkana firefighters found her in the middle of the median in a grate 25 feet away. They call it a miracle that the baby had little more than a scratch on her forehead. Her mother agrees. I know it was a miracle. Nobody but god. Pull her out. They had to turn her head a certain way to get her out. She was sitting there looking up, waiting on them to come get her.
