We have a man with a knife running around cutting people. Elizabeth police later confirming the suspect was shot and killed and rumors about a second suspect unfounded. A male suspect drove a vehicle over the curb, west 19th, wes struck pedestrians. He exited the vehicle. He used the bumper knife to start cutting pedestrians. There were multiple injuries related to lacerations or cuts. Likely from the stab wounds from the butcher knife. Elizabeth they are not releasing the suspects name but say he is a resident from live inm columbus, where we are live in columbus, where we are learning more about the suspect. What do we know about his relationship to the university . What we know now is we just actually talked with some federal sources who have released the name to us. We know this is an 18yearold somalian man. Im unsure if he actually attended ohio state. His name is abdul artan. Students we few minutes ago that all of the buildings around campus have reopened. They are able to go back to get anything they may have left behind. For hours it was locked down. These are behind me actually the chemical labs. First exit and avoid the circumstances or the place where this happened. So they learned where it was. And get away from the circumstances that we have trained for on desktops and other exercises. They did that. They got to secure places. And then forces from a variety of local Law Enforcement from our Campus Community from the city and from the state joined us, and the f. B. I. Joined together on campus to sweep the campus to make sure there was no further threat. Pl 90 approximately 90 minutes later the buildings were released. I have th they will speak in a moment. I just want to say first we had a chance to speak with the officer who was the First Responder and to thank him for following the training and being able to neutralizes the circumstances within one minute. Also, i was able to visit three of the people injured who are here in the hospital to let them know how much we are praying and supporting them and coming to a complete and speedy recovery. The ones who were here in the people are having more work done. I think dr. Thomas can give you updates on that. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and we are pleased no one was more seriously injured and look for them to recover completely shortly. Monica let me give you a brief timeline of events this morning that we had at out that a car had hit seven to eight pedestrians. This happened 9 52. Called on the dispatch center. A few seconds later the officer called out to a call that indicated officer in trouble, that there was a man with a knife. At 9 53, the same officer called out there were shots that is when the officer engaged the suspect. The suspect drove his vehicle into a group of pedestrians. There were injuries that resulted from that. The suspect then got out of the vehicle with a knife. And began cutting individuals in the area. The officer engaged the suspect and fired shots and used deadly force to stop the threat. The threat to safety was ended at that agencies responded in addition to o. S. U. P. D. And began to surround the area. We also followed up on the other possibilities and the other leads going on. The lane avenue parking garage. There was a rumor there might have been another potential threat there. That was thoroughly searched and that turned out not to be true. I would like to share with you today the officers name who we all owe a debt of gratitude to. He is a 28yearold officer named allen haruchko. He has been with o. S. Z p. D. Since january 2015, so not quite two years. The suspects name, we can confirm that the suspect was an o. S. U. Student named abdul artan. We dont have any the investigation is ongoing in that regard.
