Well do. Let me take you back to early this morning because record low temperatures. In d. C. No record but still, cold at 15 degrees. Dulles, we broke the record. Getting down to 9 degrees, 10 degrees, record low this morning at b. W. I. And yes frederick, zero degrees. The same in luray but it felt a lot colder with the breeze. Still in a bit of a breeze now. Actually, now at Reagan National, winds are calm. 25 degrees is the current temperature. Winds between five and 10. A lot of sunshine and sun this time of year will help to melt some of that snow and ice. Theres a lot that needs to be melted so its going to take a few days. At this current moment 20 degrees at dulles. 21 in Lexington Park and 17 degrees in hagerstown. Highs in the mid to maybe upper 20s . But overall, things looking a lot better as we head into the upcoming weekend. We spring forward as well. Whos ready for some more daylight . I know i am. Well break down more of the weekend forecast and near 60 degrees, jummy in a little bit. See you then. Right now, the truck wedged under a bridge on the inner loop of the beltway has been pulled out as you can see in this video right here. Officials say the truck bed somehow got up too high when it hit the linden lane bridge around 5 30 this morning, the truck was carrying salt by the way. Three lanes of the beltway at Maryland Route 97 in Silver Spring had been blocked since 5 30. Crews had to cut the bed away from the truck and that happened about 40 minutes ago. Its still causing heavy backups, though. These are some live images from our traffic cameras. No word on how long it will take to completely clear the scene. You might want to avoid that area, if you can. The layer of snow and ice that remains on the roads this noon is causing travel headaches throughout the region. Several cars got stuck before officials closed north courthouse road at route 50 in arlington because of the icy conditions. And that is just one of many problem areas today. Brianne carter is in virginia tracking the treacherous conditions. Across Northern Virginia a slushy, icy and dangerous mess along the roads this morning. Was a lot of ice and deiced so i thought the highways were better. Winter weather mess is likely to blame for this multicar crash on the beltway. Take a look from newschopper 7, you can see one car into the guard rail. Another sitting on top. It was a similar scene along 66. Mobile track 7 caught several drivers stranded in a snow pile waiting to be towed. From 5 00 until 10 00 a. M. Virginia state police say they responded to 63 crashes and 42 stuck drivers. I dont know how he got there. After this tractortrailer ended up sideways, vdot decided to close the section of 95 south with ice all over the roads, the southbound the thing that annoys me most, i guess is were three different jurisdictions. Weve got state, county and rockville responsible. But road crews have been taxed today after cleaning main roads, trying to keep up with the snow yesterday. Today, its the frozen grounds on secondary streets making things challenging. Now we can tell you this afternoon, we have seen at least two plows in this rockville neighborhood. So eventually they will get to this road. But heres the problem once they do plow, take a look. Underneath, a solid sheet of ice. Peter jordan hasnt even attempted to leave the house but a little cabin fever is kicking in. So hes doing some digging out of his own. Well i have to get out to the store. So hopefully by tomorrow morning, it will all be cleared up and we can get out of here. In rockville John Gonzalez abc 7 news. There are transit delays and cancellations throughout today. Theyre operating on a lighter schedule. Service is suspended but the penn line is operating on a lighter schedule. V. R. E. Is also operating on a lighter schedule. Amtrak is running fewer northeast corridor trains. And metro resumed normal service on all routes about halfhour ago. Metro Access Service returned to normal service about six minutes ago at noon. Well Reagan National airport, operations began returning to normal this morning following nearly 500 Flight Cancellations during the winter storm. However, at least 20 of flights were still experiencing delays because of the weather. Yesterday, nearly 1,000 flights between reagan dulles and b. W. I. Airports were canceled. As the storm dumped up to nine inches of snow across the region. Developing now, Harrison Ford recovering from a plane crash in california. Its the latest and most serious in a series of crashes by the Indiana Jones and star wars star. John erlichman explains what ford did that experts say likely saved his life. Right after takeoff, Harrison Ford knew something was wrong and contacted Santa Monica Airport with an urgent message. Hed lost power. 53718 engine failure. Immediate return. Clear to land. Go to three. 178 running three, clear to land. Ford wouldnt make it back to the runway. He clipped the top of a tree and came to rest on a golf course. The crash landing caught on tape by a local resident. Oh no a spinal surgeon who happened to be playing on the golf course rushed to help. Ford owns eight aircraft and as he told Barbara Walters hes been flying since the 1960s. I love seeing the world from an airplane. Im in love with flying. Wind once blew fords six footer off a nebraska runway in 2000 and he navigated a 1999 crash landing of a copter. Harrison ford is a terrific pilot. And as Harrison Ford continues with his recovery at this hospital, authorities are focused on their investigation as well as the removal of his plane from the crash site. For abc 7 news John Erlichman in los angeles. Britains National Crime agency arrested a man they say launched a cyber attack against the u. S. Department of defense. The 23yearold man is suspected of stealing personal information from a messaging service used by nearly 800 employees. They say no Sensitive Data was obtained and the hacking did not threaten national security. A fierce battle against the Islamic State is under way in iraq. Iraqi Government Forces launched their biggest defensive against isil. And say they expect to soon reach the outskirts of tikrit which has been held by the militants since june. Iraqis have received training ammunition from iran as well as advice on tactics. Theyve been able to liberate several villages in their push towards the city. The u. S. Ambassador to south korea will remain in the hospital over the weekend after recovering from an attack. Mark lippert was slashed in the face and left with deep gashes and damaged tendons and nerves. Doctors expect to remove his 80 stitches either monday or tuesday. He tweeted that hes doing well and is in great spirits. U. S. Officials say safety is a top priority. He has a long history of antiu. S. Protests. Tensions between north and south korea have been high this week assist as the United States and south korea conduct military exercises. Two brothers have been charged in the deadly shooting of a Philadelphia Police officer. Robert wilson iii and his partner were in the checkout line at a game stop when a gunman tried to rob the store. The officer exchanged gunfire with the suspects. Wilson who was shot multiple times died from his injuries. One of the suspects was also wounded. The bond hearing for the man charged in the serial shooting spree around the region was delayed because of the weather. Hong young was expected in court in annapolis this morning but the court was closed today. He is charged with attempted murder and assault for the february shooting that injured a man near anne arundel mills mall. The shooting was the first of a string of shootings reported in maryland in the past week. No word yet on when his bond hearing will happen. Hillary clinton is finally responding to the controversy over her email scandal. Clinton asked for the state department to disclose the email she turned over from her tenure as secretary of state. Officials say the past six months. Clinton came under fire after it came out she used a private email account for government business. A Senior State Department official tells abc news that was against the rules at the time. President obama kicking off a weekend of commemorations for the 50th anniversary of the civil rights march from selma to montgomery alabama. The president will attend a town hall meeting at benedict college, historically black college in south carolina. The white house says he will speak about efforts young people made throughout history to expand opportunity. He will also make a visit to selma. Events are planned today to honor the late d. C. Mayor and councilman marion barry. Today would have been his 79th birthday. A mural of barry was unveiled this morning at Shannon Place southeast. During that event, mayor Muriel Bowser announced members of a Commission Formed to commemorate barry. Tonight at 5 30 79 balloons will be released at barrys grave in congressional cemetery. Yesterdays late winter storm is causing problems across the country. The effects are especially being felt in the south where as much as two feet of snow fell stranding dozens of motorists. Abcs lona zack takes a look at the cleanup now underway. With all the icy weather wreaking havoc on roads, people are pulling together. In dallas, five drivers helped pull a stuck semi. And remember the more than 20 mile backup on i65 in kentucky . Nobody is happy. Some drivers were stranded for more than 16 hours. Thankfully, the truck driver ahead of us brought us water. But those icy roads and runways did their best to make trouble. In rhode island, this woman tried to move out of the way but was hit by an outofcontrol car. Luckily, she was ok. In dobbs forerry, new york a bus swerved to miss a car but ended up hitting a house. At laguardia a crane removed that airplane from atlanta that almost skidded into the icy water. Fortunately, all the injuries were minor. Investigators are back out there today trying to determine what caused the accident. With frigid temperatures keeping some places 20 degrees colder than normal today, many are daydreaming about what lies ahead. Here in the nations capital, despite prohibition on sledding, many were having fun with the snow. Who knew that sledding could be an act of civil disobedience . Lona zack abc 7 news. Cute kid there. It will take a few days to melt all of this snow and the temperatures arent helping. It feels like 15. Help with sunglasses to help with that glare but brilliant blue sky from our camera at fairfax. St. Leo the great school 19 degrees but feels like 12. So definitely bundle up if youre heading out. Again, its friday. A lot of people getting ready for the weekend. Earlier this week, raleigh was in the 70s. 30 degrees today. A big difference but very lefthand corner of your screen through nebraska see a little green. Thats the indication of some milder temperatures and the whole eastern half of the United States will really start to moderate in the Temperature Department as we go through the weekend and into next week. So chilly temperatures today. Rather cold. High pressure overhead. So at least we have pretty tranquil weather conditions going forward. Its going to be cold tonight. Maybe not quite as cold but still, well be dropping down into the lower double digits in the downtown area. Suburbs probably back into the Single Digits light wind and a few high level clouds. Tomorrow looks really nice. 42 degrees. Still below our average at 51. I think a lot of us will take it and then sunday 50 degrees. That should be really nice and as weve been talking about, you want to spring forward on sunday so before you go to bed, make sure you advance the clock an hour so well be slowly continuing to add more daylight but youll notice that extra daylight going a little lighter and a little bit later. A little darker than when youre getting up in the morning. Looking ahead to the rest of the week 52 degrees on monday. 50 on tuesday. 60 degrees wednesday and thursday. I am so excited and so ready for this pretty tranquil weather pattern as well, jummy. I mean no chance of rain, storm, snow. And im hoping that yesterdays snow was the last of it. Cyber thieves are using stolen credit card data from Big Box Stores including target and home depot and making purchases on apple pay. They are reportedly buying stuff without a credit card or even signatures most appearing at apple stores. Experts add the apple pay system itself has not been hacked. Well, you may soon be able to get your selfie on a billboard right here in the district. For 25 you can upload a picture and a message on a website. Once approved it will be displayed on digital billboards in 45 cities including phoenix, dallas st. Louis, chicago and right here in d. C. No personal information is allowed on that photo. Its part of a nonprofit organizations ultimate selfie campaign. The money goes to help donations with charity organizations. Well, the case of the stolen oscar dress is now closed. Police in los angeles are reportedly no longer investigating the theft of the stolen oscar gown. T. M. Z. Say the case was closed after the dress designer calvin klein decided not to press charges. The dress was reportedly to be worth six figures. Man who claimed to be the thief told t. M. Z. He appraised a few of the pearls and learned they were fakes. Calvin klein has not commented on the dress or why it dropped the case. Well warmer weather is on the way for the weekend. Maybe dress weather if youre into that sort of thing. Eileen back with how high the thermometer will go after the break. After an eightyear journey, nasas spacecraft dawn is about to reach its ultimate destination. It arrived for the first time at a dwarf planet which is the Asteroid Belt between mars and jupiter. Its the second and final stop for the probe which first visited the proto planet vesta. Scientists consider both objects planetary Building Blocks and hope the mission will shed light on how our solar system is formed. Dawns mission is set to end next june. Thats all really cool.
