What we understand is that residents here in this community jumped into action to try to get those people out. Then a man driving this blue recycling truck stopped at the intersection after seeing smoke and fire coming from that house to help get those individuals out. This all happened just after 9 00 this morning. We just talked to that truck driver within the last 10 minutes. He says he could feel the heat coming off the house as he got out of his truck and tried to help those other residents to get the two individuals, a man and a woman, from the home outside of that house. We understand in talking to Prince Georges County fire officials, again this all happened just after 9 00 this morning. That that man is said to be in they are 80s and a father and daughter were taken to the hospital, we understand with smoke inhalation and burn injuries. This is a community effort. They say they quickly tried to get them out of the house here and they were taken again as we said to the hospital. Now, this has been fire investigators pouring through this house trying to search for a cause of all of this and i want to take a listen as we understand also a firefighter, a volunteer firefighter jumping in to help with all of this. Take a listen to what happened here. I immediately jumped out of my car and helped pull the lady out of the house as e. M. S. Personnel pulled up. I was driving down the street and as i got to the intersection, i saw flames coming out of the window and a couple of guys trying to pull someone out. And so i pulled the truck over and, you know ran up to try to help them get the lady out of the house. That was that truck driver that, again, tried to help that driver from her home. We understand that a firefighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation. After a fall that happened here on the scene of the fire. Now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. We just asked that truck driver again within the last 10 minutes whether or not he feels like a hero. He said this is just a very tight knit community. He saw someone who needed his help. And he stepped in. Reporting live Brianne Carter abc 7 news. All right, brianne. Thank you. This area is moving pretty quickly. On the storm watch 7 snow machine, you can make it out now coming across the appalachians moving pretty quickly. It will only take a few hours to get closer and we think it will move through. During its passage, it will coincide with the rush hour. That means snow or rain and sleet and freezing rain in areas. The day is going to move quickly by the time more cold air wraps in, most will be out of here and well probably wind up with just some snow flurries. Quick look of one commuter model shows approaching the area at 4 00 to 6 00 this afternoon in the western suburbs and well blow right through and well get some flurries. Fairfax County School system is facing some tough decisions. Its dealing with a massive budget shortfall to tune of 100 million and as Jeanette Reyes breaks it down the costs and what this all means for students and teachers. Here at Falls Church High school, its business as usual today. But behind the scenes the fairfax County School district is facing some tough decisions in the 2016 budget as it scrambles to accommodate a fast growing student population. Packed with people when you walked down the hall constantly bumping into another person. The district ishan 100 million in the red and facing Harsh Criticism about some of the decisions its making amid the financial crisis. Heres a breakdown. The proposed 2016 budget is 2. 6 billion. Thats already 60 million more than last years. Contributing to that increase is a push for Later High School start times and four day mondays for elementary schools. Each will cost the district nearly 5 million. Another not so popular move, a 100 Salary Increase to members of the school board. According to superintendent karen garsa, they havent had a raise in eight years. She doesnt understand why spending money on other things besides our school. A less controversial measure but the most costly is an increase to teacher pay. The current starting salary is 47,000, lower than neighboring School Districts. A 3 increase means about 59 million. Its a costly move to keep teachers from leaving the district. I think the teachers are the ones that work with the students every day. And they work hard. And everything they have to deal with, i think they are the ones that deserve the higher salary. And the School District has until may to adopt a budget. That meeting is set for 6 00 tonight.
