Money is tight for kathy gemble, so when she learned about the card she had her 12yearold son dakota sign up. But to verify ones age and residency every child applicant must provide a clean copy of their birth certificate, passport, or maryland state id to the transportation authority. So she reluctantly took her sons information to this county transportation office, where the mother was less than thrilled with their filing system. They told me they were placing it in a folder on a desk. So they have the parents name, they the childs name, they have the birth certificate. Where the child goes to school. Its an identity thiefs dream. In an april 11 email, a county employee wrote her saying, there are probably element of the program that will need to be adjusted in response to things we learn as implementation proceeds. And the Registration Form may be one of those. But now more than four months later, she says shes received no update. Her sons confidential info still on file. My concern with that is who then has access to that desk, to that folder. You know, what happens to this information over time if its being stored for 19 years.
