This morning for Michael Morgans trial. Morgan is facing arson and homicide charges. Hes accused of setting fire to a home at 36th and Silver Spring last october. His estranged wife lived there. And he was being prosecuted in two Domestic Violence cases where she was the victim. Six children had to be rescued from the blaze. Four of them by their grandmother. But morgans stepson. 10 year old kevin little. And littles cousin. Two year old Taenajah Morgan died as a result of the fire. Little was found in an upstairs bedroom, usin cousin. Investigators found evidence of accelerant throughout the home. Prosecutors say morgan used gasoline to intentionally start the blaze prosecutors also say morgan asked a man he recognized down the block. To call 911. Before there were visible signs of the fire. Not be charged in the homicide of anthony trice. 22yearold trice was shot and killed last week near 27th and vine. A teenager was also taken to the hospital. The 25yearold man was arrested. However, the Milwaukee County District Attorneys Office says he will not be charged. Citing he used justifiable selfdefense. Racine police are investigating a shooting near 12th and villa. Were told a man was shot multiple times. It happened just before two this morning. The man was taken to froedtert th police are still searching for the shooter. A man is recovering after being shot on milwaukees north west side. Police say it happened near 87th and carmen around 730 last night. The victim showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. Were told hes expected to be ok. Police continue to investigate. For the second time in two days. The fence around sherman park has been taken down. The fence had been up since the Fatal Shooting of Syville Smith by a police officer. Which lead to riots the fence be taken down sunday morning. But by sunday afternoon. Sheriff david clarke ordered the fence be put back up. Abele says hes been trying to discuss the fence with clarke for two weeks. But clarke wouldnt respond to his requests. We sent him a legal opinion from Corporation Counsel which are the same lawyers who service the Sheriffs Department both had a written opinion saying, sheriff you dont have the authority on the curfew or the fence and that didnt get it done either. Sunday night. Special session ruled the fence come back down. And upheld a restraining order filed against the sheriff. Who was reacting to four probable overdose deaths, which had happened in 48 hours. every one of these individuals on this sheet represent a loved one, its either a father, a mother, a brother, sister, cousin and that loss of Human Potential has been drastic and terrible for our community and unfortunately its not getting any better. And im fearful that its only going to get worse. this past weekend is proof county medical examiner reports that in the past 72 hours, 12 more people have died from a suspected overdose. Less than a week ago, at a roundtable discussion in the area, attorney general brad schimel outlined how he sees best to combat the issue. but above all, from my perspective we need prevention, we have to stop more people from flowing into this problem. through july of this year, 161 people have died from drug overdoses. Thats up 10 percent so far this year, according to the Milwaukee County medical Examiners Office. Medications only as theyre prescribed to them, to store them safely and securely in their home, and to get rid of them when theyre done taking their prescription. the mes office says it will take 3 days to autopsy all 12 of the recent deaths.
