Mentioning explosive devices, assault rifles and pistols. The first. Landed in the inbox of the Los Angeles School district. The district determined the threat was credible and ordered all schools be searched. That shut down ninehundred schools. And sent 600thousand students home. At the same time, an identical threat hit new york city schools. That threat was rejected immediately though determined either district. Its a position des moines schools have been in from time to time. But nothing like what took place in los angeles. In the case of threats. The district tells us, if we were to have any doubt about the safety and well being of our students, we would contact law enforcement, put the situation in their capable hands and follow their lead. Des Moines Police say theyre ready to take that call. The department has two bomb squad units ready roundtheclock to respond if necessary. We got an inside look at both. Where theyre constantly recreating the kinds of bombs terrorists use. Its all in an effort to stay on the cutting edge of what police are up against. But the bomb squad wont actually get sent out unless a threat is validated. That means someone has either found a device. Or knows of a suspect.
